Bought jet kits from the USA for the DR650, DR200 and my ZRX. They have arrived but do not contain needles. Has anyone changed their jets and needles and if so, was it essential to replace the needle and if so, are they easily sourced here in NZ.
The DR200 needle looks like a nail so I would assume that changing that would be almost mandatory.

The BST40 carb is bad for wearing out the needle where it mates with the slide so check for that, if it's ok for wear it's not essential to change the needle when changing jet sizes. There may be better needle profiles than stock out there for the DR650 though, Nordie will know... paging Nordieboy...

There's no one answer to the question. Typically, jetting kits include whatever parts are required to complete the makeover; jets, needles, cover screws, slide springs, drill bit for the slide bleed holes etc etc. Buying the needles is easy. Knowing which needle to buy is the hard bit. The jetting kit should at least suggest which needle is required - if different than standard they are usually included - that's kinda the point with buying a kit, it should be a complete drop-in solution.

If I remember correctly the KTM LC4e needle is the go for a DR650. I'm positive there is a thread over on thumper talk about this somewhere. MXRob was the guy who farkled the stock carb to death until he put a FCR carb on it.
Nordie will definitely have the good oil.

What brand are the jet kits and where did you get them from?
What do they contain exactly?
On the DR650 it's...
Stage 1: Pull the snorkle, raise the needle 1 notch and tweak the mixture screw to suit.
Stage 2: Snorkle back in, KTM needle (not sure which one but can find out) and mix screw to suit.
Stage 3: Open top of airbox, DynoJet needle and main jet. jet size and needle position depending on exhaust configuration.

Got it from 6 Sigma Racing. The 650 kit contains 1 main jet 155-mb, 1 main jet 160-mb, 1 slide drill, 1 plug drill, 3 needle shims, 1 nylon spacer and 1 removal screw.
Haven't pulled the top off the DR650 carb yet but I assume it has a non adjustable (no clips) needle.
The 200 kit contains main jet 130-mb, 1 main jet 135-mb, 1 slide drill, 1 plug drill, 3 silver shims, 1 white spacer and 1 removal screw.
For the 650 kit I expected an adjustable needle and for the 200 I expected the needle and a new pilot jet. Cost was reasonable @ $US40 each and there are clear instructions for installation and mods for the spring and slide, but.
Thanks for the advice. Probably tilting to wearing the postage and sending them back as the ZRX kit also has no needles and they are definitely required.
The DR650 has a pro circuit end can and I have removed the weld rim. The DR200 has a Big Gun exhaust and header for a DR-Z125 (so a slightly smaller ID on the header) and that is all.

On the DR if you're not changing the needle then you don't need to change the main jet at all.
DJ kit for the DR650 is the easiest way to go.
Mine was $112NZ in 2007 from a local bike shop.

Update. $NZ170 for Dynojet DR650 kit and DR200 kit from Jesse at Keintech. That include freight and I am still waiting for a reply from Triple Zee in Auckland. Emailed and phoned.
Highly recommend Keintech, price is good and phone availability via Skype is a bonus.
With the Pro Circuit pipe he recommended the 160 main jet with needle clip instructions included and lid removal as well.
Short test so far but will play more tomorrow. Definitely an improvement so if you're thinking about it, go for it.
