Well the day was possative for me but negative for others.
Paul Wootton picked me and the bike up and off we go heading for the track , stop quickly for gas at Levin and now we are supposedly ready to do our best.
The bloody Honda didnt want to start but eventually did to my relief. Pauls 1100 wasnt so easy but fortunatly for us he had the starter rollers in the car , big problem , 4x4 subaru and a roller set hmmm , Ahhhh there is Tony Okeefe with a van thats got to be a good prospect , good old Tony Ok says OK and we set the rollers up to start the big hairy Suzuki , every time he dumps the clutch it almost stalls the van FFS , and it was a bit damp so it was a smoke show as well from the bike tyre. A few more revs on the van and the bike burst into life and we are ready to go , well after the session started lol.(i love starter buttons).
Out we go and as per pre session talk we are here to do our own thing , cool.
Paul circulated at his pace while still suffering from the rooted hand damage from the Paeroa crash but his bike has got serious speed on the starights.
I was having a bit of a time getting my old head round a racebike again after such a time off the saddle but i was havin fun, a few slides and i could feel what the bike was doing made me try a fair bit harder. I was soon feeling better. I had a few dices with a guy on a FZR1000 pre 89 and as he had exibited a few unethical lines here and there i was weary of him.
Session 2 and i was in a better groove, the FZR was now getting quite close to me and i slowed to allow a bit of space , i kept telling myself , "dont do it , its just not worth it on Steevies bike" but as normal , i didnt listen to a word i said.
Going into the middle straight i was behind the Yamaha and blasted out of the hairpin alot faster on a tight line , i gassed it and went by , he used the 1000 power and went by about half way down and moved left , just as i was about to go past him under brakes. Lots of front brakes and a bit of asshole realigning and i pulled in behind him and about half way down the back straight i started to breath again lol. Next time round was the chequered flag.
FZR man came and introduced himself as John Lincoln from Taranaki , he and his young son were fresh of the Pommy boat and he was starting to do road racing instead of moto-x as they did in the U.K. I asked if he wanted a few tips on the track as i thought he had room for improvement and he welcomed it totally.
Session 3 I wanted to practice a few starts so sought authority to come in and do it in pit lane , did a few and found it to be a wheelie monster but very easy to launch fast and stay straight.
Back out on the track and John jumped in behind me so i gave him the prearranged sign and he tucked in behind. About 5 laps later i looked and he was still there so at Coke (Toyota) i waved him by to watch where he was going and see what Steevies bike was like against a Senior bike .
Through the infield as expected i had it all over the Fizzer but down the middle straight he gained about 30 metres , i closed up under brakes and on exit i gassed it to try and do a cross over on him. Suddenly there was a bike flying with a rider above it about 4 - 5 feet off the ground and he made the mistake of holding on . Hes a large lad this John so the downward part of the highside was fast and furious , onto his shoulders and head while going backwards , i was now heading straight for his crutch which may have been a bad area . I heaved the front brake and confirmed you can do a fast stoppie on the CBR without dumping it and as i slowed i managed to go around the tumbling John. I didnt expect to see him get up as he smacked that track very hard . Into pit lane and i looked over to see him walking around , Wow what a hard bastard.
He has a messed up bike and a very sore back and shoulders , a small burn on the hand .
I was impressed by the young fella though , next session , out on the Hyosung for another go while dads off the the hospital for a checkup . Very posative.
A bit of a dribble i know but thats what keyboards and cold misserable Saturdays are for , Good luck to all round 3 entries and i will see you guys at round 4 .

Yep.... incident happen round 2pm. he was taken to PN hostipal for extensive checks. We didn't get out of there till 10:30 pm.
3 hours home - pain killers are a blessing!
This morning - Bit sore / in a soft neck brace, but getting around enough to start striping the FZR down. He will be Back!

Thanks for your concern.

Hey Racey , i should have recognised the leathers you had on , but im a bit thick aye lol. Sorry about that.
Hes one tuff little (well almost little) mother , that was a very bad crash and he must have had the racing gods looking out for him in a big way. So glad hes recovering ok. Maybe moto x was a safer pursuit after all lol.
