One of the guys at work had a bit of bad luck with his 2008 RMZ250 in the weekend.

Anyone got a 2008 RMZ250 casing sitting around? :innocent:

Looks like it stripped a gear which forced the idler gear up causing the casing to crack. Doh.

mine did the same, apparently it was a manufacture fault. the cap in the kickstarter gear hasnt been pressed in tight enough and falls out and jams in the clutch basket...not good at 10,000rpm!!! suzuki paid to fix mine,$3200,but know of 3 others that have done it and had to fix at own expense

Could try Brugar Engineering on Barrys Point rd. They can do some wicked repairs. Worth a look.

Any ideas why this has happened?

Because it's not a Yamaha. Seriously.

Mate of mine had trouble with his 250F on the weekend, had to spend $600 on the replacement of exhaust valves.

Not sure why, maybe because it's an 04 CRF with 300hrs on board :D

No it's because it isn't a Yamaha.

Damn, well I didn't realise this bike had a fundamental design flaw.

I'll pass the info onto the unlucky owner. Cheers!

Typical RMZ thing to do, my mates one did it. Looks expensive id still get in contact with suzuki, they are a large company in NZ and im sure they dont want any more bad press for the small price of a few parts.

Friends PS3 died a month ago and was told its a common problem and will cost him over $300 to fix. Once they said to the retailer he would make a deal about it sony repaired it for free to keep it quite so they dont get hundreds in for free repair. See where im comming from. Might help. I know i would give you the parts to keep it quite as they cost suzuki bugger all.

I wounder if i took my bike in to a suzuki dealer, if they would press the Cap in for me and get it sorted before it happeneds.

Yep mine did the same 1 week after i had bought it second hand. Suzuki would not come to the party, stating it was a competition bike and not designed for trail rides, and that it was required to be rebuilt after every few races. I ended up buying new cases, idler gear and clutch basket of scott at mr motorcycles, best deal , ta.
I reckon the reason it happened though was when i got the bike it was a pig to start, the hot start plunger was siezed, and the previuos owner had been kicking the crap out of it to get it started. since a rebuild and a proper set up it starts without jumping up and down on it. and touch wood its been all good.
Although its is still a crap design from suzuki as that idle gear shaft should be supported at both ends.
