No. If mods have to start doing that for everyone who doesn't want to learn how to post then we'd never get anything else done.

August Cycle World has a Kevin Cameron article about the 2011 ZX-10R but the pic is a photoshop, not a true photo. Goes on to say - 540 degree crank, cylinders horizontal above gearbox, pneumatic valve springs, variable valve lift and timing (based on three recent kawasaki patents)
Cameron ends by saying "I'm no oracle, but credibility and practicality go to big bang, ABS and traction control."

Or you could just wait and see.

Much like their underseat pipes on the 06-07... saying its heaps better, then on 08 its back to side again :weird:

Gotta say, that front end looks quite yammy, but it is a race fairing. Tail (race fairing again) seems to resemble the cbr1000rr

'First off, let’s dispel two wild rumors. The new 10R has neither a big-bang firing order nor a horizontal placement of its cylinders, despite fanciful speculation in lesser publications. Rumors of variable valve timing are also likely unfounded. Instead, we find an evolutionary literbike design of a traditional inline-Four engine wrapped in a perimeter-beam aluminum frame. '

I don't think I'd find them disappointing, but for the money I would prefer to just get an earlier model, if it were just going to be pretty much the same thing as last year and the year before that etc.

But more than anything I just want to see some different/interesting big name sportsbikes being made by the Big 4. I find innovation and taking a different route much, much more appealing than merely slightly rehashing last years model.

Want I want is a modern, reasonably priced bike, that in 15 years or so I can say, "Oh, a 2011 ZX10R, I remember when they first came out I'd spend all day looking through the window of Norjo's at it, they were the coolest thing in the world. And hey now that I have some money I can finally afford to own one, sure it may be a little dated but that first look at it when it came out was mind blowing!"

Essentially the equivalent of what a lot of the generations above mine had with bikes like RD350LCs, RGV250s, the first GSXRs etc. I seem to only find myself yearning after bikes that are already classics these days, because they're the only ones that still hold that fantastic appeal. And none of the bikes being released at the moment really have that same appeal, the appeal where you imagine yourself riding and owning one and being the happiest wee motorcyclist on the road.

The only ones that come close are the Desmosedici, which I will never own, MAYBE and I do say maybe the RSV4 factory and... that's about it. Everything else is just too same-y.

At the moment if I was given a choice between a mint RG500 and a new GSXR1000, monetary value aside (as in you couldn't sell one) I would take the RG. Hand down.

imdying
23rd July 2010, 14:10
The way Japan is sitting if the papers are to be believed, we should be happy that they're still building them at all man. 'same-y' is fine when you're comparing awesome to awesome. You're crazy if you'd choose an RG500 over a new GSXR1000... given the age of it, it's a great weekend toy, but if you actually want to go riding, it's the GSXR every time.

Hmm, I've ridden both (owned an RG500 - great) and I've had a Gen1 an 3 ZX10R - There's no way I'd go back to a 1985 RG500, except for a nostalgic ride on a sunny afternoon.
Damn thing spat me off and practically killed me in '86, new sportbikes are way safer and easier to ride - despite the almost 100hp difference.

I'd take the RG any day...the more involving the ride the better the buzz.

Taking away the track factor do we really wan't performance bikes that your granny can ride.Or do you want something that can challenge you at less than warp factor 9 on the road.

I've gotta side with McWild on this one and i've never even ridden an RG500.

pah, best of both worlds, mod an 04-05 ZX10R to put out more power...

power delivery akin to old, kinda like a large peaky 600. Only bike I've owned that I always thought was trying to kill me, and would laugh if it managed it.

My 08 is kinda like that... The 06 was smmoootttthhhhh by comparison.

Should be interesting to see if they make the 11 easier to ride and less edgey. I actually hope they don't... That'll be my 'new' bike in a few years, lol... If I wanted sensible, I'd go for one of the other three Jappas...

Yip, now they just need to get Ohlins and maybe it'll be an even better package. Not saying Showa is bad though... It's just another difference which is worth considering.
We'll have to see if the new rear suspension works too...

magneti marelli is the electronics package all the top WSBK teams run.....except kawasaki in the past!!

That was my point......to be honest...I don't really care about how the road model goes....and 99% of road rider ain't bright enough to notice the difference between magneti marelli and a monkey in a box pressing buttons

I knew what you meant...

In fact, they were running Magnetti last year too... They'd given all their old stuff to the BSB team and are using the latest stuff themselves this year.
