View Full Version : Sick days
Well
Woke up yesterday and I had a wee snuffle and could definitly feel a cough coming on so I called in sick. It was a nice day to be sick anyway, but what to do ?....
Maybe some fresh air will help and I havn't been into the Cobb reservoir since MarkS was here riding the fatty.
So here's some pics of the bike and some scenery
On Cobb ridge, woulda been nice to have had some snow here

Heading home via the airstrip, I'm really liking the suspension on this little bike by this stage

I won't describe the sunset I'm looking at now then. You know Gonzo is always here if you feel the need to jump on a plane & ride around here for the weekend.

Not quite a sick day, but the rest of you guys WERE working while I was making some noise on the KTM.
Decided to go for a quick recon out to Whangapeka road end (Courthouse Flat) and then cut back thru Fairhall Rd and Glenrae Rd forestry block on the way home.
Truth was, I trailered the KTM to Tapawera and rode from there, to save my ass (in more ways than one!):msn-wink:
The Whangapeka road was it's usual stunning self with the snow covered peaks never too far from the horizon, the rivers were running crystal clear, and the mottled light in the bush played the part well, as if scripted straight out of a LOTR movie set.
I had to remind myself to watch for ice as there was plenty of permafrost areas up there, opening the taps up too early on the KTM would result in a few nice power slides as the rear would break away on frozen gravel, spinning up easily. Some of the watercourses had nice little frozen sheet ice entry/exits to them which just added to the excitement of it all.
The Siberia Flat (now why do they call it that???) campsite was still frozen solid white at 2pm, hadn't seen the sun all day, bugger camping there at this time of the year. The Courthouse Flat camp however was basking in sun by comparison, albeit just for a couple of hours before the sun disappeared behind the Kahurangi ranges around 3pm.
Courthouse Flat is a great little basic DOC campsite with the standard concrete fireplaces and picnic table, I reckon it would make a great spot for and ADV overnighter in summer.
I headed back out the same way, taking note of a couple of forestry side roads including one which links up with Christian Creek Rd off Sherry River Rd. Unfortunately they're logging up there, this particular one was one of the infamous skid sites which blew out in the May rains, bringing down a deluge of logs and down into the valley below. Hopefully harvesting ops up there may be finished in summer, so will look into getting access through there in the future.
Before heading home, I detoured off up Fairhall Rd and rode the short forestry block through Glenrae Rd, always a nice little side trip, back to the where the car was parked near Tapawera. Woodman knows this last road, we did it last year with Jen (MyGSXF) on Colins 640A.
All in all, a good avo out, sure beats working on a Friday! I don't need to mention the fact I'm working the bloody weekend though!

I've been looking out at the snowy ranges everyday thinking I'd like to be up there however unusually for this time of year I'm flat out at work. I shouldn't complain about that I spose.
