Crisis management

I'm off to Brisbane later this month and have the opportunity to rent a Harley Davidson for the day, I've never ridden one and this seems an oportunity to pootle up the coast and enjoy the experience with my wife. The choices I have are:
FXD Fat Bob,
Super Glide custom
FLHT Electra Glide.

The only prerequisits we have are that it has to be pillion friendly and fun to ride.

So, whats the best one to get?

Any other advice is welcome...........

Edit...apologies for the "Harley" typo in the header...not a great start eh? (Ta to whoever fixed that bollocks up)

You want to poodle up the coast with your wife on the back? On that basis there is only one answer: Electra Glide.

I was in Brisbane a few weeks ago and did some window shopping at morganandwacker.com.au (http://www.morganandwacker.com.au) looking for what HD I would buy when I move to Brisbane. The tourers are very popular with HD owners and suit the roads and long distances. If you want your wife to enjoy the poodle I wouldn't consider the Fat Bob - but then what would a Busa rider know?

Fat Bob for one day and short trip. Electra for longer missions, Super Glide for bling.

Just to clarify, I would expect to be travelling an easy 400 kms for a day trip at a leisurely pace, am I deluded?

You must know something about his wife's arse if she is to sit on this (http://0.tqn.com/d/motorcycles/1/0/H/m/-/-/10_FXDF_R.jpg) for a day trip up the coast.

The Glide would be the best (only) 2 up bike.

Her on the back won't like the rear seats on the others for long.

Electra Glide. later the model the better. 2010 with an exhaust upgrade is one of my all time favourite bikes.

It's my pick for the renter we're picking up from Salt Lake City in three weeks, it seems ideal for two-up, lots of miles and room for gear.

No mention of an Aquaglide. They are better in the wet.

They're both gonna be hot if it's this time of year, both have lots of desert but Salt Lake City is more on the (almost) direct route however Denver is the way I've been - and great scenery through the Rockies that way.

(Will be stopping at Las Vegas myself in about 6 weeks time)

Depends how much time you've got and how far you need to travel - it's a long way between chip shops over there!

actually looking at it, might have to do the round trip if we can. looks about 2500 miles. 10 days would be 'bout right i reckon

You ridden over there before? 750km is a pretty easy day. Have done 1250km in daylight travelling back from Perth.

Depends on your agenda really - some places there are lots to see if you like looking at empty space and Gum trees. Some places you could be busy exploring for a week - same an NZ amenities wise - just that the distances between centres are sometimes vast and the roads are often gun barrel straight between them. Dial in the crusie control and watch it roll by and it's easy to roll out big miles on either side of the great divide. Conversely there are some good twisties ascending and descending it.

Fuck that's cool. Livebait tank on the back, tackle boxes on the side, even looks like it has a sounder/chartplotter up front. Stick your Fyran up your arse, I'll have one of those.

These bikes should be fine for Aussie, there are not that many corners. But if you happen to come across any of the said "corners" make sure you plan well in advance of these as your ride my have other ideas. (LOL)

Yerrrs - but atchally. If we're talking about the Electra Glide, The 2008 onwards Touring Chassis is a tidy handling motorcycle with 'better than a cruiser' cornering clearance. Good end Showa suspension, Brembo brakes, you can even stand on the brake and drift the rear end into a corner slightly it's so well balanced. In the Kiwi Rider test I said it's a PT boat dressed as a battleship. I meant it. It's all relative of course - compared to an aprilia 125 it's still a battlestar - but for the class of bike it's 'nimble'.

Is there no Victory hire places? If i had a choice between the Harley and a Victory I'd choose the victory. That 106cu in victory motor is sweet and the brakes work. Gotta get me a ride on the cross country.

The 09 on glides are very good, the new chassis makes a big difference plus the front forks now have a cartridge in them which makes the front work surprisingly well I did a little test to see how the chassis handled I headed up the rimutaka's and just as you go past the lake at te marua there is a double passing lane with a nice sweeping left hander with a bit of faith in the new chassis I hit the corner at 170k's and it went around like it was on rails whereas the 08's and back hd 's would have protested by moving around a bit but not the 09's but I would have to wait another 10 years before I get one as I'm just not old enough yet lol.

Late model Hogs have brembos or nissins. I preferred the Cross Roads - iz nekkid.

Kinda sort of 'bucket-list' stuff - after seeing so many people pop their clogs without warning I ain't sitting around too much as long as I can afford it.

Ya can't press 'REPLAY' in life, one shot is all ya get......and you're dead a long time.

It's not the point Andy, I am unlikely to ever ride a Harley again so this is the chance to, bit like Scummies bucket list but more something you have to do rather than desire to do!
