View Full Version : Is something up with insurance premiums?
All our policies tickover at the same time this month and something’s changed in the last year,
The premiums for the bike are up 50% and everything else is around 20%,
Its a fairly big chunk of cash in these financial times
My parents said their house premiums doubled this year.
Is anyone else experiencing big price rises lately?
I've done the ring around for alternatives but it seems everyone else only offers higher premiums.
Are their global backers tiring to recover large losses worldwide?
Anyone work in insurance here who can comment?
Problem solved....ride a cheap bike that is not insured....just hope you dont plow into the side of a Lamborghini
I have not had motorcycle insurance for years, and have not had an accident for years either....Without the buffer of insurance it makes you think twice about taking risks...
And no one wants to steal my old piece of shit!~

We can't expect to let oil flow onto US beaches without someone paying for it.

I've been hit the same by these price hikes. They say its because thier costs have gone up....bullshit! not by these massive hikes. My house premium doubled, I rang around and got the same massive increase from other companies.
We need unions like in Oz otherwise we are going to be continually shafted again and again, because they can.

you jest.
3rd party/theft for not alot is well worth it.
then when someone takes you out you have the man batting for you.
hedging the bet i spose, that when it does go pear shaped, it wasn't your fault.

If someone crashes into you and your bike gets fucked up and you don't have insurance, then the offender will probably pay you off at $10 a week for the next few years, assuming that the guilty party doesn't have insurance either.

OK, you have a small piece of truth there: When I lived in Sweden third party was obligatory, and so I clearly had one (the times I had a bike that was legal...) But apart from that nix.

My policies are still good considering im under 25, dont have a full class 1, and still have a DD on my record.
You guys are probably moaning about paying $500 per year. I pay 1300 on the car, and was paying 1000 on the last decent bike I owned.

wow, insurance is VERY cheap here. back in uk (home) when i passed my full i was looking at a cbr600 1997. cheapest quote i could get was for 1600GBP.( the bike was gonna cost me less than that to buy!) like 4000nzd. that was 8 years ago. last bike i had in uk was a crappy gsx600f, 97. and i was paying 1800 nzd equivalent for fully comp. my nephew just got a quote for a hot hatch car( maybe a golf gti or similar, cant remember) when he passes his car test,.........................wait for it................................................ ..........................9000 gbp......yes almot 20, 000 nzd fully comp, at 17 yrs old!
oh, and track day insurance back home...................not a chance.
so hes sticking to his skateboard!
i currently pay 600 nzd fully comp for a litre sports bike...........nice n cheap comparing it to my experience overseas. so on the grand scheme of things...............we have it very good here in terms of insurance premiums
i love NZ!!!
