Crazy Steve.

You think that is bad Steve, wait until you see the entry form and the medical costs for emergency EVAC etc and the rental for the sentinel alarm etc...Not to mention the costs of actually getting there as well. This is why the Europeans loved it in Africa, nice and close....:) You will have a hernia mate! :gob: At the end of the day, I think the KIWI bloke could do this for around $250,000 approx and have fun as a Privateer...:shit: Maybe....Then on day one, you get keen, go balls out because of the sheer excitement and your bike or you blow a fu-fu...All over rover...

Now that Bultaco 370 Dakar bike is cool.

Specially as it's been built for the upcoming Dakar.

They are looking like a nice piece of kit.

Looking very similar to the 690 to my eyes. Same trellis style frame, rear tank looks similar, maybe a bit stumpier.

Wondering if the bits'd fit the 690?

Yeah, would love to add the front end/tanks/faring, the longer travel suspension, the engine & exhaust system. Oh wait I might as well just buy one.

This is pretty much the bike I wanted to buy, I don't feel I use anywhere near the power the 690 has, I have often said I wish they did a 450 version of the 690 with it made just a little lighter and with longer travel suspension.

The front faring setup & tanks would be nice, but I would only consider it if I could do a quick swap back to the stock setup for those trail rides. But I bet it would not fit the 690 anyway.

Did anyone else notice how high up that engine is? All that space in the bashplate for whatever they have there, and still tons of ground clearance. :niceone:

Yep, good ground clearance, they generally need it. Nutters that they are.
The bashplate doubles as a water carrier, up to 4 litres I think, as required by race regulations.
Same deal for the Australian Safari as well, they don't want people dying from dehydration out there in the desert if they break down/crash etc.

This is where a 450 like the non existant WR450R i.e. lower maintenance current 450 enduro is what a lot of people are after. There is a pettition on the web somewhere to try and get Yammaha onto the WR450R.

There is no trail bikes out there at the moment with real seats and reasonable service intervals and 450cc ish of power and wide ratio/6 speed gearboxes. Ya might get a couple of them but not all four.

Me - I'm just gonna try and get a 05/06/07 RFS engined 450EXC or 525EXC (cause they are 6 speed) get a bigger tank, mod the seat and just learn how to do oil changes and check valves real quick.
