Comfort over distance?

O.K, so I'm classing my relativly small GSX-R 250 as a sports bike :-p Just wandering, how many sports bike riders cover some serious distance on their bike and how comfortable they are to do so? I'm considering a ride to Taupo once I get her all back together (from wanganui) but am I gonna get up there uncomfortable as hell?

iv done welly to palmy and back (bout 4hrs) and yeah that was a bitch, not guna lie.

it may be uncomfortable but you will get used to it.Its never gonna be as comfortable as a cruiser or tourer.

I've just got back from a 420km afternoon ride on a KTM 525exc. Sportsbike will be comfy compared to that.

I rode my daughters 250 Ninja from Welly to Whangarei over 2 days no worries. She rode it all over the north and south islands with me on my VFR doing 4-6 hours most days - piece of cake. I guess if you were especially ill-fitting on the bike it might get uncomfortable otherwise a 250 is fine :shifty:.

GN250 (or even *shock horror* the 125). Only bike I have ever got off and felt like I could do another few 100 km!

But then again we all ride bikes too look cool, so the GN is out on the same reason why you don't wear gumboots to town (even in the pouring rain).

yeah .........what he said re long distance.............its a personal thing mate.............have done a couple of 700 + k rides no worries on my 916............id be lucky to do 70 ks on a cruiser or upright position without my lower back giving me shit

I've done about the same distance on a saturday afternoon on my sons GSXR250 no worries at all, I'm about 5'10" and found it comfy enough.

I normaly averaged 400km per day on the 250 ninja with no problems while on holiday and have done over that on the 750.
Like said above it also depends on how you fit the bike but I would think you would have no problems.

Back in 1989 (yes i know , ages ago ) 2 60 plus year old women bought NH 80 , (honda Lead ) scooters off us at the shop brand new.
They went by truck to Kiataia and then didnt finish the trip till they rode all the way to Bluff . Then they rode home to Welly via trhe west coast . They took 4 weeks do do it and at thier age i was amazed at the stamina the exhibited. If they can do that on a Honda Lead , a 250 sport bike from Wanganui to Twopow is a doddle.

PS; not one problem bike realted was encountered on the entire trip.

Have done two trips down to Wellington from Auckland non-stop, excluding petrol, on my VTZ250 and Jesus Christ. Make sure you secure every bit of luggage down, with none on your back. Because every weight is digging you further and further into the seat. About 7 hours each way, back is screaming bloody murder and wouldn't have been shocked if my ass hadn't remained on the seat when I hopped off at my destination.

In short: buy a cruiser, I'm attempting to pick up an Aquila as soon as I can sell my VTZ, it's not nearly as fast by a long shot, nor as fun to ride, but by god they are comfortable.

Oh, Wanganui to Taupo should be fine. I've learned the VTZ(and by extension, I assume this for most 250 sports) has a comfort period of about two hours. Still, won't be nearly as fun on the Aquila up to that first two hours.
