Has anyone been through Kaweka Rd in the Manawatu. I was reading a friends 4WD book and it showed that there is a publicly accessible track from Kaweka Rd to Te Kapua Rd. I am thinking of taking a bit of an adventure route to the Cold Kiwi and would love to throw this in if it is still accessible.

Just had a read in the book and it sounds fairly serious. When are you going up Eugene?

i have also often wondered about theses two roads, Kaweka road and ridge road south. you may need to dig out a cockys ph number and ask if its still passable, or if its still open to the public.

watch with interest...

I'm going up the same day and will be taking some sort of scenic route, though probably a bit shorter as I'll go straight up SH1 to start then cut into the same area up to the rally site.

I had a look at both Ridge Road South, and Kaweka rd on a trip I did in Janurary. Found a locked gate half way through ridge road south, and only looked at the north end of kaweka rd as it was getting a bit late in the day to go venturing to far down it on my own. The pic's etc are over Here ( http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/115493-Two-nights-away-Rangitikei-and-Hawke-s-Bay/page6 )
