There used to be an ad on UK TV where a cager doesn't look properly and pulls into the path of a biker who then slams into the side of the car and flys over the roof. The closing scene has the bikeer lying motionless on the road, eyes staring with thick dark blood oozing out his ears and nose.
It put the shits up me every time I saw it but didn't stop the dumb blond in the MX3 pulling a U turn in front of me one moring on the way to work

Think Once.
Think Twice.
Think BIKE.
I used to like the bit where he then smashed a hammer in to a tomato. Not sure what it meant, but it looked cool.

Because that makes too much sense. If people on bikes stop crashing then how can they possibly justify our acc levy increase??

I used to enjoy the ads when that nice Mr Brock gave us advise on how to be better drivers.
Currently I get a bit sick of the lowbrow shock type ads.
Yes I'm a shit driver
If you get pissed up your chance of crashing increases and if you're travelling faster there is more energy to dissapate and you could get (more) hurt.
I get it
Now how about some suggestions like 'Look in your mirror occasionally', ' Let the other car into the flow of traffic,' ' Don't follow so close that you'll rear end someone if they stop in a hurry,' 'Texting and driving makes you bad at both' (The sort of do this one)
And for sure - 'Are you sure there isn't a bike/Motorbike/child where you're about to put your car?'
Also a series saying things like 'If your tailpipe is over 2 1/2" you fuck your sister' and 'Loud pop off valves are for homosexuals'
Get the All Blacks to front them. There are in every other fucking ad.

Do the ads really target the intended audience though? I think its more likely the families of victims that feel the shock value

At the risk of repeating myself, this is the best I've seen so far.

There use to be one that was played occasionally, an old guy on a postie bike or similar wearing a vest riding down a main road and a women in a car pulling out in front of him. Haven;t seen it in ages though.

No amount of TV ads will turn dangerous drivers into safe ones.

As long as morons and retards are given licences, there will always be morons and retards pulling out in front of us, other cars, trucks, buses, and of course, my favourite, those tiny we little things we keep forgetting about, TRAINS.

I think there is to some sort of fund devleoped from the skinnings that ACC take from us - it supposed to fund things like the ads you suggest. I understand that biker groups like BRONZ will be consulted on the programme

I agree - we need the adds on talk-back radio - that's where the knobs are

Geez, not sure if the current ad agency would do us any favours with a think bike campaign. The ad on at the moment with the guy swerving to avoid a cyclist is absolute bullshit. At 60kmh you hit the power pole, at 50kmh your still going to lose control & end up on the wrong side of the road. What kind of message is that supposed to send? Where is the safe driving message? Their eejits!

Is that the message you got? I thought it was always pass people you are stuck behind, thus he would have arrived earlier and neither the car or cyclist would have been there.
Ads that promote situational awareness and driving to the conditions rather than the arbitrary limits would be far better. Targeting speeding and drink driving creates complacency in those that don't. It very telling that TV reporters often seem surprised that people can crash without speeding or drinking.

I think the police should give tickets to everyone who does not stop at stops signs,
it seems you have to be young or driving a boy racer steriotyped car for them to make an effort to enforce the law.
Thats what grinds my gears ...today atleast.

Good call, but it has not worked for cyclists !! Adds for car drivers has not changed anything they are still out there killing themselves and others by the droves, Geezzz in the last few weeks in four accidents near on twenty or maybe plus, hurt in just four vehicles.
Would like to think it would work, but sadly it will not..
