OK, I'm going to try a new angle...

If you had a completely free choice where to live in New Zealand, where would it be and why?

New Plymouth Taranaki.
Mountain, sea, greenery, scenery.
surf, sand, snow, motorbike scene, stock cars & farmgirls, cafes, pubs, laid back, good people, growing quickly.
oh I wanna go back there one day.

Wanaka without a doubt.

Hot sunny weather in the the summer - good for wakeboarding, climbing, tramping and above all else riding.

Friggin cold weather in the winter - good for skiing, snowboarding and learning how to ride on ice!

All year round - good for extremely attractive foreigners

Here

It's cold, it's wet, there is 'nothing' here and so all the arseholes generally stay up north.

Uncluttered roads, variety of scenery, near places that do have 'something', no big housing areas containing unemployed criminal homie tagging wannabe 'gansta' (wangsta?) twats, well I guess there is a + or two for living here :niceone:

Christchurch. Because I did my homework and decided it was the most suitable place for my family and I.

A vibrant city - but not very busy.
Plenty of employment.
Beautiful scenery - with the southern alps as a backdrop.
Good schools for the micro Biffs.
Great parks.
Nice beaches.
Great walking trails.
Ski slopes within an hours drive.
Great biking roads.
etc etc

Bastid.
Made me miss it even more.

Bastid again.

Hard to go past the Three Ns: Napier, Nelson or New Plymouth. Great riding roads in proximity to all three. Global warming is slowly improving New Plymouth's weather...

Hamilton.

Close enough to big cities for needs, and far enough to be peaceful.

Don't forget the wasps, little bastards are everywhere up there. (We banned them down here in the winter of '97).

I'd say Napier...its a lot better these days with the wineries doing so well etc - and some great riding roads. Not too far to Taupo or Manfield. Has an airport.

In general I'd choose the East coast too (includes south island) because you get predominantly drier warmer weather on the east coast (as due to the topographic effect of the Southern alps and central ranges by the time weather get to the east it dumped it water on the hills and the land has warmed it up).

After some thinking over the lunch, second choice would be either Pukekohe or Ngaruawahia. Only a few steps away from the infamous SH22 :Punk:

Should've been marked as ZeelanRing and made as one-way road with run off areas.

The wasps aren't as bad as they used to be. In the mornings on my parents farm you'd look towards the sun and the air would be thick with the angry little feckers! The bush used to sound like a giant wasp nest, and all the beech trees would be coated in so many wasps you could hardly see the bark. No bull (just lots of wasps...)

Nelson gets my vote. Ain't never spent much time up in that thar north island though, so I don't have the whole picture.

Agreed - but I'd make it down the coast a little - Oakura maybe?

NP's good too!
