You know those ridiculous billboards/road hazards plastered along the highway near Maramarua? I hadn't been that way for a while, and this one really bugged me.
"When you speed, people die"
Oh really?
Where?
How many, and is it proportional to what speed I travel at?
How many have died so far? Did it only start when the signs were erected?
How can anyone tell that I was the cause of their dying? I mean, people die ALL THE TIME.
If I'm stationary, is death momentarily suspended for some people?
If I drive backwards really fast, do people pop into existence?
How long have I (and other travellers) had this remarkable ability? Is there a cream or pill I can use to make it stop? I mean, I really don't want to be responsible in any way for the mortality statistics - I've got enough responsibilities already.

"You have given out too much rep...?" :bye:
Chance would be a FINE thing si all I can say to that. My mother is not well at the moment. She is in Thames and I have made the trip from there to there and back again far too many times recently. What a JOKE!
If I could achieve the friggen posted speed limit I would be a happy thang. 80kph is the defacto speed limit on the open road in them parts
And yes I lie awake nights worrying about killing people, I have done 103 kph overtaking a B-Train truck in the last week down there.

"When you speed, people die"
Which people? Do I get to choose?
Only, I've got this list, see.
It's just a few pages.
I could just pin it for a while...

:gob: Does anyone know the death per km/h ratio..?

You see?
'They' (whomsoever the banner mongers are) make this bold, simple yet alarming statement, but don't back it up with the information we obviously require. Even a reference to their research would help. Or the banner monger's phone number, so we could ring him/her and <s>abuse</s> congratulate him/her.
Just think - if I was actually allowed to drive at the moment (instead of indulging in excellent backseat driving/navigating while being a front-seat-passenger), the strain and worry about this unsubstantiated statement could very well have caused me to have been distracted and had an intervehicular interaction with another similarly distracted driver. :shit:

I have learned to take no noice of the billboards in that area. I only ever travel through there once every 2 years, and each time I see that I am entering a crash area. Well I'm sorry, but I refuse to crash in that area. If I'm going to crash anywhere it will at a random spot, not somewhere that some unknown has decided I should crash.
Of course I would prefer not to crash at all, but I suppose I can see some sense in having designated crash areas so the emergency vehicles know exactly where to go.

Yeah they're not so clever these sign peoples. On my way yesterday morning there was one of those "Enjoy the ride not the race" billboards with the bike on it. Well I wasn't on my bike, I was in the Van.
But I had the racebike in the back & I was 15 min away from the track for a race meet. And you know what? - I did enjoy the race.

Hmm, well maybe some runoff in a sand trap & an airfence.
'y-know that isn't such a silly idea. I mean if you could just employ some stunt monkeys at the start of the year to just run up to the expected statistics we could save a lot of bandwidth of I crashed me bike mum threads on KB.

Maybe they were referring to the rat race...? :shifty:

Oh really? :confused:Yes, really  (I know this because the government tells me so )
Where?Within a 2km radius
How many, and is it proportional to what speed I travel at?You're on to it
How many have died so far?How fast have you been going?
Did it only start when the signs were erected?Yes
How can anyone tell that I was the cause of their dying?Duh... speeding
I mean, people die ALL THE TIME.Not all the time, just when people are speeding
If I'm stationary, is death momentarily suspended for some people? No, other people are speeding.
If I drive backwards really fast, do people pop into existence?Only if more than 88mph
How long have I (and other travellers) had this remarkable ability?Duh, since the signs went up.
Is there a cream or pill I can use to make it stop?About 3 litres of 98 consumed orally should about sort you out. You're welcome

Oh really? Yes
Where? Downtown Iraq
How many, and is it proportional to what speed I travel at? Yes - more gas you burn, the more people die in wars for more gas.....
How many have died so far? Millions......
Did it only start when the signs were erected? Nope - they start when you start speeding silly, signs have been up for years.....
How can anyone tell that I was the cause of their dying? Using too much petrol, use less.
I mean, people die ALL THE TIME. Yes, but people also fart all the time - would you feel ok if everyone farted around you.
If I'm stationary, is death momentarily suspended for some people? Possibly - stop and find out
If I drive backwards really fast, do people pop into existence? Only if your a women, men cant have babies
How long have I (and other travellers) had this remarkable ability? People have had babies for ages.
Is there a cream or pill I can use to make it stop? Yes - but nothing will fix your soul
I mean, I really don't want to be responsible in any way for the mortality statistics - I've got enough responsibilities already - One would assume you then don't want to speed? Or don't understand how words on a sign are meant to be interpreted.

While it implies causality, it doesn't explicitly state it. People die all the time so you could write anything.
"When you don't speed, people die" is also technically correct, as is
"When you're not fapping, people are dying"
But yes, it does illustrate how retarded the speed kills campaign is getting.

Can we share? Make sure that the people on my list are different to yours? That way would be much more effective ... cover a wider range of people and clean up faster?
