NO not basketball you fools, the NBA is another

N Naki
B Boys
A Adventure

Phil, Colin (not that we have told him yet) and I thought it was about time we led some of you astray in the Naki again. Following on from the rides in 2008 and 2009 (MAPMEA and TTTTT rides) we again have something special in mind.

Basically we want to go SOMEWHERE and then take you NOWHERE.

WTF?

Basic thoughts at the moment are to stay in Inglewood on Friday night (bring your banjos and 6 finger gloves.) then be away early on Saturday to ride some of the excellent gravel roads the Naki is famous for. They will take us to the Bridge to Somewhere (is it coming clear what we have planned?).

We will then have to find gas and head (via the inland roads around Kai Iwi that Phil assures me are fantastic roads to ride and untouched by Kiwi Bikers) to Wanganui overnight.

Sunday morning will be an early start again and we will head up the River Road to Pipiriki where we will then jet boat to the Bridge to Nowhere (there is a walk to the bridge once off the boat).

Once we are back at Pipiriki it will be home time with lots of different road options for you take.

We would like to do this at the end of September.

Are you interested in this ride, if so please reply to this post.

Once we have an idea of numbers we will do more planning and put a ride post up with details of the costs etc.

Does anyone have contacts in the Pipiriki Jet Boat scene?

Mike and Phil

Sounds great! Any weekend in September suits me at present.

We have looked at all those backroads on the map between Inglewood & Wanganui & thought they looked worthy of exploration, be neat to have a ride in there. I've boated down to the bridge to nowhere from Retaruke but haven't done the stretch up from Pipiriki so that would be cool too.

Cheers
Clint

Sounds good, I'm in. Good on you guys for organising it. :Punk:

Struan...bike in boat and motor up, into the Wanganui river and you done. Take an umbrella, those big waves at sea might get a bit wettish.

Thanks everyone for the replies, it looks as though a few of you want to do the ride so Phil, Colin and I will get underway with the planning.

Not so much as a run, more like stagger two steps left, lurch right, bump off lamp post n giggle.
The proprieteress was very understanding. But the waiter got the death stare:Pokey:
That local Port is a fine guzzle.

It is all sealed isnt it?

No.

The majority will be sealed, with some nice bits of gravel in between. For some of the gravel (with the exception of the Wanganui River Road - and I don't know how much of that is still unsealed) there can be ride arounds on seal if needed.

That looks like fun

No seals were harmed in the making of these roads.

Bugger we'd love to come but we arrive back from Oz on 27th september and god knows when our bikes will be back. Can you let us know when you confirm your dates:2guns:

That looks like fun
15th August 2010, 18:49
Alrighty then :shifty: You have all been sitting patiently waiting so time for an update
Phil and I went exploring today (its a dirty job but someones got to do it :innocent: ) Course is set. :Punk:
Max between fuel is 180 ks. We originally wanted to included a few more technical bits but have encountered a problem or two with access due to lambing  There will be an option for those who wish to do the Whanga Rd and regroup at the Bridge to Somewhere. This will require good knobblies!!!!
The rest of the route is do - able on dual sport tyres and is suitable for big bikes and blouse's :innocent:
Dates and costs will be set soon so stay Patient, its going to happen.
Added bonus, the stages we cant do at the moment will be available early next year :shifty:
As you were

Now I know who to befriend next time I am running low.

180km max is no problem for me, a 12 litres tank is plenty big enough (*.chris sighs and takes another sip of the orange cool aide)
