View Full Version : Oh $h!t, we've been robbed...

Have been enjoying a holiday in balmy Wellington over the last week and got a call from the cat-feeder one night. "You've been robbed, the house is a mess and there is stuff all over the place". ARGH! Frantic call to the landlord follows, who manages to get the house secured the next day (because the back door frame had been totally smashed in). Now we get home full of trepidation to our house to find that, yes there is a god-awful mess, but after much tidying and putting-right the ONLY thing that appears to have been stolen is... my motorbike gloves. WTF?! It's not even like they were flash racing jobs or anything. My other bike gear is all still here, my BIKE is still here (although the key was not very well hidden in a drawer which was rifled through). No computers taken, no DVDs, no stereos, no tools or toys AT ALL. Just my freaking gloves.
So two thoughts come to mind... either the little fuckers doing the pillaging were interrupted midway through (which would explain the pile of 'good stuff' on the middle of the bed), or this is some sort of 3 month welcome prank from you twisted kiwibikers. Am I going to get the gloves back full of turd? Does this mean I now get to learn the secret handshake?
Happy that things have turned out so much incredibly better than we feared but still feeling violated and right pissed-off. Guess it's off to Boyd's tomorrow for a new set of gloves.

Sorry to hear your news. There is so much of this happening these days. Dont worry, the cops will be all over it like a rash, and your gloves will be recovered, and the perp will be dealt to with a soggy bus ticket, or even worse, a family group session.
We were robbed many years ago.
Someone went into my garage and took some power tools....didnt even notice until I went to use my electric drill.....then discovered that all the power tools were missing. It took me a while to work out what had happened. (I thought my son had taken the power tools and not put them back)
On another occasion, our house was broken into and some stuff taken while we were away on holiday. They must have been interupted too, as the stereo was sitting by the back door. We noticed the obvious items missing of course, but took some time to discover the full extent of what was missing. (small items of jewlery, etc which were not immediately obvious).
Make sure all keys and small items are accounted for. They are easily overlooked.

Bugger ... I know how it feels to be violated by people who choose not to work for what we have. It really pissed me off the times that I have been in that position. :(

Gloves are to hide finger prints and pillow case is used to carry stolen goods. Also linen is a common item stolen.
Pleased you are OK and your bike is still there.

"You've been robbed, the house is a mess and there is stuff all over the place".
Dude - that sucks. If someone broke into our place they would look at the mess and assume we had been robbed already !! (or at least broken in to) :shit:
Hope the little buggers don't come back and try to finish the job!
I have some gloves you can borrow if you need them.

It's a really horrible feeling to come home to, I know too from experience. First time it happened the guy was still in our house when I walked in and the last time I found our tv sitting in the middle of the lounge floor 'cos they couldn't get it out the windows!
We were done four times in our last house (we lived there for 12 years, so we figured that in Manurewa once every 3 years wasn't too bad....) (p/t)
I am glad to hear that your gear was largely intact and suspect you are right about the being disturbed in the act scenario. I'm sure if it was the strange kb'ers who live down your way you'd have found your bike painted gay pink and your helmet filled with something unmentionable.....

or this is some sort of 3 month welcome prank from you twisted kiwibikers.
how could you even think that??????
uh, by the way: congrats for your playboy dvd collection, i've made some copy while we was there.... :niceone: :niceone:
no, seriously, it sucks: knowing that someone has put his hand in your life is a subtle violence, as the fear that someone will try it again maybe when you're sleeping with your family.
i always try to be rational about justice, but as i've said in the firearm thread those would prolly be the situation i'd use a gun if i had one...
glad everything is almost ok... :niceone:

Fucking sucks. Been there. Similar situation. House trashed, but only jewellery taken (and xmas presents, grrrr). DVD's not touched, CD's not touched, computer/Plasma not touched.
Fuckers.

That seriously sucks bro. I've found if I leave my house a total mess that burglars think it's already been robbed.

similar thing happend to us last year, pile of good shit in a blanket on floor cos they were interupted (fuckers took my MX and my Road gloves), then they came back monday morning when we all went to work and finished the job. So now they know the house and whats in it, if its easy to get in again and theres shit worth stealing they may well come back, so keep all your easily stealables (laptops ipods etc) hidden or with you.

There are some real low life scum out there. I was reading in our local paper today that a local league team had everything stolen from the changing shed WHILE they were playing a game. They couldn't even shower after the game as clothes, etc had all been stolen.
Glad it wasn't too bad. Time to get a big scary looking dog. Even it is a pathetic sook at least it will look intimidating!

Maybe all they needed was gloves.
Cos Gloves will keep them alive
How deep were your gloves?
God, enough with all the Silly Glove Songs, you'd think people would have had enough of them.....
(alright, I'll get my hat)

He's right. They've cased your joint. They'll remember the pile on the duvet and temptation will be too much. You have these options:
1. Move house
2. Work out when it happened, what the conditions were like and replicate them. Make sure you have support for the dust up that will ensue (a trained vicious dog is a good backup)
3. Let it happen again but fortify the entrances, install cameras (cheap webcam).... plus leave a note at the entrance(s). All it needs to say is "You are being recorded. We recommend you get the fuck out of here before we get too much footage to prove your crime"
4. Hope the police can print and catch them.
Sorry to hear about it anyway. I've had that happen. They are bastards.

oh that's just so wrong and I've noticed in the news and on here that crime...personal crime is becoming far to common in our society.
That saddens me, I dont' want this for my children. It causes me to open my eyes to the world I live in....I find that world lacking and i am powerless to change any of it and that fucks me off.
I live here too...and so do you and to think that others, people, humans, can do this to other people, and to such an extent. our world is changing.
it's been evolving for some time and we can all see where it is headed...farmers shot in their driveways....mothers dissappearing, not returning to their chldren, police officers shot at, innocent young men killed through no fault of their own.... our community is riddled with crime and ugliness and ... what can we do to change that?
I'm really sorry this happened to you and your family.

That sucks dude, but glad all your gear is okay... minus the gloves that they probably used to cover fingerprints.
Get a big mo-fo dog. The bigger and louder, the better. And ask your landlord to get new locks fitted - I would insist on deadbolts.
(I HATE thieving bastards. Scum of the earth.)
The police won't do anything.

Thanks for the words of support. Cops came yesterday and took fingerprints and told us that there had been another 5 houses done in the area at the same time. They left gloves behind (not mine) at one of the houses so hope to get DNA evidence from inside them. If I was a wannabe burglar, I could have got all the tips I needed from the cop.
Luckily we had taken our toothbrushes on holiday with us :) Still expect to find a few other little bits gone but really does seem like they got a fright and bolted. Managed to replace my gloves with a similar pair and nice discount (as always) at Boyd's. Thanks for the offer anyway Greg. They did uncover my bike to have a look, but it was locked to the carport so probably too much hassle at the time.
As it has been said, probably the 'nicest' way to get burgled, if there is such a thing. The most astonishing part of it all has been the large and sadistic range of punishment that our 6 year old has come up with for the people who did it (eg. kick them in the nuts until they go blind). We might have to review what sort of movies he watches! :)

Bummer, sounds like they only got the job half done and you got off pretty lightly. Might be worth investigating a wireless alarm system that you can take with you when you move, in case they decide to come back.
(eg. kick them in the nuts until they go blind)
I hope your 6 year old grows up to be a high court judge.
That saddens me, I dont' want this for my children. It causes me to open my eyes to the world I live in....I find that world lacking and i am powerless to change any of it and that fucks me off.
It is sad the way the world is going, or at least is perceived to be going. My son just bought his first car, and the first accessory he wants to buy for it is not some go faster bit, but a car alarm so nobody steals it. Sad.
