I have found as I get older my tastes are changing. I used to have a passion for first generation GSXR 750's, had a couple, and an 1100. Sold most of them a year or two ago, but kept a very very nice '85 750, totally original and mint. Also have with it all the original printed material that Suzuki issued with them, ie, owners manual, genuine workshop manual, genuine parts book (brand new), genuine parts micro fiche and the reader to read it and a first edition sales brochure, this is the first sales brochure that actually shows a picture of a pre production bike on the front cover. I am now playing around with K series BMW's, got a nice '85 RS and the bones of 2 or 3 more and am thinking I need more of them, or maybe a R series would also be interesting.
I could just sell the GSXR and buy another K or 2 or an R, but I would rather just swap the Gixxer for another BMW or two.
So any one out there in Kiwi biker land with anything suitable in the shed that would like my Gixxer? Any deal would be entertained.

Keep the GSXR. They are a true classic and are almost impossible to find in original condition nowadays. I would buy it off you if SWMBO didn't find out. :spanking:

you are right there, that's what my sensible side says, but my want side says otherwise. I am not overly worried if nothing comes from this, the GSXR can just stay in it's display cabinet for a few more years.

Sensible side vs want side... A real dilemma there. I feel the only solution is to keep the bikes you have and buy more anyway. Food, warmth and shelter are over-rated anyway.

IMO keep the GSXR as a retirement nest egg.

Being the proud owner of all those ancient piles, you may want to check out the BFTP group.

Blast from the past. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php
Punters of pre 90 iron. Well known for leaving a trail of oil and sundry parts across the countryside.

Who/what is 'Blast From The Past ?

We are a bunch of individuals who have a common interest, namely riding and sharing tales about our pre 90's motorcycles.
Originating in Auckland there are BFTP groups sprouting up and doing their own BFTP rides NZ wide!

We ride once a month. Our rides take 3 - 5 hours including stops and are generally held rain or shine.

Each member attending a ride on a correct period bike is eligible to purchase a BFTP logo sticker and/or fridge magnet for the princely sum of $2.

If you have a period bike (runner or project) please join us and tell us all about you and your bike/s. You will find that the group is morphing and establishing interesting self help and help share threads on a range of bike related matters (with particular emphasis on maintenance and restoration).

If this sounds like your cup of liquorice tea then join up and say hi, we don't bite and we all know a thing or two about making old bikes go again.

Retirement nest egg....:shit:

Get it out there and ride it, old bikes are fun especially if you ride with others with similar era bikes as in BFTP.

I've recently sold a Toaster R50/5 for 2.5 k, a similar Brti bike would have been at least double that.....maybe reliable and practical are not exciting as underengineered and past their use by date....:innocent:
...sort of like comparing a Hawker Hurricane with a Messersmitt 109....
