Well we are really but here is what a biker in Canada emailed me yesterday.
"Kinda like our provincial neighbor, Quebec. Only problem is there they have publically declared war against motorcycles. If you own a sportbike you`ve seen the registration rates go from $250/plate/year about 5 years ago to over $1000 and projected to go to $1600!! LOTS of big sportbikes for sale in Quebec! And that`s for basic insurance. If you want full coverage it`s way more!" :shit:
The insurance he is talking about is the medical that equates to our ACC. Wonder what happens if you have an accident with no registration. Do the Ambo's just leave you on the side of the road:angry:
I wonder how hard it is to import from Quebec....

Surely not...and if it were?
All I have heared in the last few months from Katman and his apologists is
"it's all our own fault"
"We all fall off far too much"
"Let's accept the shafting that the government and ACC have handed us".
Bullshit.
This is the very premise from which ACC will dissolve into an insurance scheme/scam. It's exactly the same argument that Smith and Judge have put forward to push the imminent privatization of ACC.
It's been weeks since the "new approach" proposed by Katman first appeared, and what? Hot, hot air. Not one concrete proposal acted on. Hot air, just noise.
You know, empty, loud, worthless noise.
None of which benefits bikers one bit.

If ACC/rego is added to regular insurance + the 85 cents per ltr tax in fuel not to mention Grab Snatch Take at various points along the way with a WoF every six months all paid for by money you have earned and already paid tax on (especially self employed) I think we can still find momentum for a good run at winning the who has it the hardest comp.

And this just in........."A few years ago Ontario changed the law concerning the no insurance coverage fine. It used to be $500 to be found riding with no insurance but too many people were riding without, paying the 2 or 3 tickets per year because it was still cheaper than getting coverage with their records. Then they upped the limit to $5000 for the first offence!! A lot of people parked their bikes!":shit:

"Sounds like it`s fairly similar only in Quebec it`s mandatory. You have to get a renewal sticker yearly for the plate and the insurance in in the cost of the sticker. It would be easy for the police to see if you`re running on an expired plate as they have the year and month on the sticker."
I think it is only medical though.

Funny, I said this'll happen here too if too many don't pay rego....just watch, our govt is a good sheep.
In aussie the insurance only covers medical, and I know my mate up in north aussie pays around $1000 a year for rego on bike or car.
Which brings me to my last point, where is this new system unfair.....my 4x4 has gone up as much as my bike, yet I've NEVER had an injury from that, but have had a few from the bikes over the years????
I think we've just had it too easy for too long.

Hmmmm. NZ doesn't have the same cover system/s that the rest of the world has. Yet.
Nick the Prick and his cronies want to follow the rest of the world. Hence the price rises.

No-one has raised the point of whether Oz/Canada/the rest of the world pay on each and every vehicle they own, like here.
In Europe, a rego plate is yours, not the vehicle's, so one could expect that included cover follows any vehicle that plate is attached to.

How is the registration cost there relative to their income? What is the condition of their roads / roading infrastructures compared to ours?

A valid point.
Canada's per capita income is 40% higher than ours: http://siakhenn.tripod.com/capita.html
While the quality of roads is subjective, roading costs are somewhat proportionate to population density - Canada's density is only one fifth of New Zealand's - they will undoubtedly have higher roading costs.

He is just registering his XR250 this week.
$279 for rego.
$99 of it is CTP which is compulsary third party insurance in case you injure or kill someone else.
So the $380 for the 1000cc bike must have a CTP component of $199. This does not cover the owners medical.

I have to organise RUCs for the cars where I work. I buy 15,000 Ks per time because that keeps them in step with the service interval. At a cost of between $500 & 600 per time.
