SH16 to Wellsford & Pakiri on 4th June

Update 02-06-05 : After discussions with Feint the meeting place has been changed to the Shell at Westgate. Meet there at 9:45 am and leave at 10:00 am latest

I cant post maps so if someone could post a map of where the Westgate Shell is at it would be most appreciated :niceone:

If the weather is fine (Im probably being a bit too optimistic about getting fine weather) I plan to ride on SH16 to Wellsford and then to Pakiri beach and back.

Never been to Wellsford or Pakiri before but Im told its a good ride :ride:

Anyone who wants to join in is welcome. Keep in mind tho that Ill be riding real slow... I dont go above 110!! :)

If others want to come along Ill sort out a meeting point, etc.

One can always hope. It's getting hard to find now.

Depends which road you take. The one that goes to the maori place is sealed. But Pakiri Beach Road is gravel at the end. And there's a good stretch of gravel if you come through from Leigh.

And then if you keep going straight on the way back instead of turning left, theres a very good stretch of gravel and some excellent views. Well worth it.

I guess we could meet up at the Repco in New Lynn at 9:30 am and then get onto SH16 from there leaving at 9:45 am?

Ive never been up to Wellsford and Pakiri before so Im just planning to ride up SH16 and then go via Helensville, etc... but Im open to suggestions if anyone knows a better more scenic route :niceone:

My mates and i rode from West Harbour on Sunday, yes when it was pissing down, to the lookout just before Wellsford via SH16 then on the way back turned off at Kaukap on Kahiketia Flat Rd to the old SH1 then into the road that take you back to Kumeu via Riverhead. Even though it was raining it was worth and if its fine next time it will be even better.
For the next ride we might use Old North Rd, Peak Rd then SH16, we've heard it's a good route.
Enjoy the ride if you go... i'll see if the boys wanna go and get back to you.

That's a common meeting place.

Go to the end of SH16 in the Westgate Suburb and you shall see a largish mall like area. Just after this mall on the main road is the Shell station.

That is the right place there JSG. Come down the SH16 motorway right to the end. You will come to a lights, turn left and Shell is on your left hand side 300m down.

If you havn't left yet can I recommend you wait till 12pm and then see what the weather's like then? :cool:

We left around 10 am and had a good ride to Wellsford and back :ride:

Was Nuhan, Feint, Feints friend and myself.

There were other bikers out there too and like 95% waved back so Im pretty pleased :yes:

But I enjoyed it. The other rider that came with me was ATYB. There was the four of us, Nhuan, myself, Johnsf1980 and ATYB.

The ride there was ok, it wasn't pouring down. But the ride back on SH1 was terrible. It was cold, wet and slow. I also had water drip down my cordura in to my boots to soak my socks....... :cold:

The CB is good. Got the carbs balanced (Thanks Madguitarists!) Got the fork oil replaced with a thicker oil. Handles better now. The trousers that I got are like leathers, they don't go over the boots but in them. Hhmm.. bit silly of a design.

Its a great road tho and I definately have to ride it again on a nice sunny day!
