Just curious if anyone else using Keihin carbs (FCR's) are having trouble getting parts at a reasonable rate in NZ?
I have a set of 41mm FCRs feeding the Phat-Girl, they go great!...BUT they leak at rest occasionally due to the accelerator pump "regulating valve's" being screwed (one was replaced by previous owner with a piece out of a ball point pen!...shit ya not!)
Easy fix I thought, just replace em (the regulating valve's) and chuck some new float valves in for good measure (they look ok and seem to stop the flow when on the bench...but best to be safe)
Heres where the nightmare begins.
I have repeatedly "tried" to order parts through a couple of the local bike shops, but they all go through "Northern Accessories" to obtain these...here lies the problem.
This outfit wants $68 EACH!! for float jets (just an example of the EXORBITANT prices!), and even when I agree to this MASSIVE increase in cost ($17each-US) he can't supply them because he use's a "special" parts numbering system? -different to the Keihin parts numbers! (sounds rediculas I agree...but its true...and bloody frustrating!!)
I have rang the distributor directly and tried in vain to get the parts I require, but the guy just dosn't seem to care and will make no effort at all to help, and will not supply a copy of his parts list so I can figure out what part numbers relate to the items I require.
Even told me the the regulating valve's where unobtainable...not what Keihin USA have said (they assured me the parts ARE replacable and DO actually exist.
So I have been forced to jumped on the net and seek some help from an Aussie online bike store, found one and sent them an email ....bingo! got all the parts I need and they even had some great suggestions for saving money on stock parts and gaining more performance-http://zrxoa.org/forums/showthread.php?t=168688&page=2
So got Phat-Girl off the road now, Had the carbs into an engineer to remove the one regulating valve left (got the ball point pen bit out myself lol), and now awaiting the new parts to arrive ($250 nz +postage for 2x Stealth AP2's, 2x Fuel screws, and 2x size 46 float jets)- bloody magic!
Has anyone else had these problems?
Or is this is just ANOTHER example of NZ stockest's forcing Kiwis to go off shore for parts due to pure lazyness! (or is it incompetence?)
PS: Always Keen to hear from people with FCR parts! Im on the hunt for a Spigot Adapter as the previous owner was an animal! and fitted different Spigot Adapters to each carb? (makes tuning FUN!)
NOTE: A HUGE thankyou to the team at Pitlane motorcycles!! the most helpful bike shop in CHCH, dom your a legend!! <(this guy can quote FCR parts of the top of his head!! amazing!, and the ONLY bike shop n town that went the extra mile...knew there HAD to be ONE bike shop that gave a damn.)
