The police seem to have a bad rep on here, so thought I'd share a good experience instead.

Got stopped at a random WOF/Reg check point yesterday and turned out my bike reg had run out on the 15th (I thought it was the 25th :o ). All the guy said was "Make sure you get it sorted this week. Have a good day."

Top bloke! See, they're not all out to get ya :niceone:

I had my first bad experience with a cop over the weekend. I nearly got arrested for a crime I didn't even commit, so much for a nice cop.

Cops took my cattles, house, money and my family. I'm building steel suits with my brothers and friends. We will fight!

Its sad to say but the last nice cop I meet walked on all fours and could only really say grrrr & woof. Was a very friendly polite cop tho.

Got pulled over on the Ramarama straights late last year by not just one, or two, but by FOUR bike cops.

I'd been cruising over the Bombay hill when I saw some bikes hopping on from the Bombay onramp - I'd actually turned around in my seat and had a look at them, looked like beemers, but since there were four of them, I figured t'was just some owners club ride enjoying the nice day. Get to the bottom of the hill and what's this? They're right behind - and one of them is right next to me, waving at me to pull over?

Bugger.

Pull over, and whip off the helmet and gloves. The cop asks me how fast I'd been going, and I replied that I'd been sitting bang on 109km/h since Mangitangi. He replies that they'd clocked me at the truly heinous speed of 117km/h on SH1, and that since I'd clearly seen them on the onramp when I turned around, why hadn't I slowed down? He seemed to like my honesty when I [...neglected to tell him that I hadn't realised that they were cops, and instead...] replied that I hadn't changed my speed on the matter of principle - namely that if I considered 109km/h on a deserted rural stretch of SH1 on a Sunday morning a when there were no visible cops a "safe and acceptable" speed, it would be positively ??? of me to consider 109km/h on a deserted rural stretch of SH1 on a Sunday morning to be unsafe and unacceptable merely when cops are suddenly visible.

So he wasn't fussed about that.

The real worry came when he saw my license - namely a 6R license on a Ninja. And not a 250 Ninja, but rather a Yoshi-clad 636 with freshly-shredded tyre edges (which were actually from a recent trackday, but he wouldn't have known that).

Luckily for me, he didn't appear to want to give me a ticket, and said he didn't had his ticket book on him. He then declined the offer of his mates' (who seemed very keen to ensure I got hit for everything) ticket books, and took down my details to "send it in the mail". Which he never did.

And two months later I was on my full. (And rather ironically, just a couple of months later, went from over 130hp down to 35hp)

the police have always been nice to me. everytime i've been stopped or needed help even.
always been cool about it. If you respect them they will respect you. thats been my experience.

They even got my push bike back, that no one cares about ( which was rather flash and expensive). my workmate stole it. and when i went to lay a complain. the guy at the station didnt give a rats ass. but he wasnt a police officer. was just some admin.
then 3 months later. the officer came across my file. apologised to me its taken so long. arrested the guy i worked with. took him to court. got my money back. apologised so many times for the other dickhead not taking care with my file, even though he didnt have to, and was nothing to do with him. and he took it up with the admin guy's boss. i will not forget that. That officer was what the police is really about! :)

i guess if you're on the receiving side of the force. you will hate them. but they're just doing their job. i got pulled over. got a ticket. was thinking many things id like to say to him. but then he was just a cool dude. so i didnt really feel bad after it.

Dick or not, I suspect your taxes are making sure he's well paid!:nya::killingmeI doubt it. Number one reason not to be a police officer is the pittance they pay you guys. Seen the starting rate for a constable? Fark I wouldn't even get out of bed for that rubbish. You'd know as well as any of us the standard of new recruits; if you told us that they were crap, it wouldn't surprise me, for that reason alone.

Yeah the ginger cop in Rodney, he's got a real bad rep. I pulled him up one day for his attitude and disrespectful demeanor.
I said to him, he has a duty to be respectful and courteous, and if he can't dignify me with a humnistic response as a civil servant then he can get back in his car and I'll follow him to the nearest station where I will have him reprimanded for his actions.

I don't care if they have bad days, get a bloody job you enjoy and "can make a difference" not piss the world off. Yes I am a Christian, and yes I swear cuss and get mad, occasionally lash out and smack things......
I have zero tolerance for idoits, muppets and disrespectful authority figures.

Sorry, the only nice policeman are policemen that solve real crimes and get criminals off our streets and incarcerated where they belong. Traffic cops today are failed morons who lack the mental capacity to solve real crime and do something positive for society.
I deal with crap everyday, but the thing that makes me wake up and go in the morning is the feeling that, I am making a difference, slowly and surely..... I could never be a cop, I'd end up hating me more than the public do........:Punk:

Don't understand how you can be mad at that cop, or "not amused" as you say... that would just give me a laugh, I'd thank the cop and be on my way. There are better things to spend energy for.
I really don't mind getting pulled over, it shows me they are doing their job. I'd be happy if they did.
It's like getting a trainticket, getting on the train and not being checked.. I always get that cheated feeling: I could just as well NOT bought a ticket... same thing on the road.

The Nice Policemen....

In reality the 'policeman' in post one is really a "Highway Patrolman"...'tis written on the side of his fast vehicle...we seen one tonight, flying past my home chasing young boy racer in rather fast car....got my guests and i outside to watch and listen....they abandoned the chase to which we were pleased, we did not want innocent lives to be lost.

They have his number and will be in touch....about 6.30am - tomorrow - I hope.

This is why I love my local police....in the end the baddie is always caught and that is what matters. That is what makes this place a little bit nicer.

P.S. I love my bike

I have only had one bad run in with the police doing there job
I have only had one good run in with the police doing there job
the rest have been neutral (them doing there job)
like most groups of people
some are good some are bad and some are indifferent

Never had an attitude and never been given a warning

Well I`m guna take back what I have said and thought lately regarding the inaction of the Boys in Blue - particularly the Tax collectors - to properly police our roads and NOT pick on us bikers !
Headed over to Palmy North today mid arvo from Hawkes Bay to Anza and got me Trump ECU flashed to suit aftermarket pipes etc
No biggie, job done so I pointed the red and white beast towards the east and off I pootled. Traffic was building both ways as 1 would expect late on a Friday prior to a fineish forecast weekend
Gassed up at Caltex Woodville took me sunnys off and chugged North - chug being the operative as the queue travelling North was getting longer - WTF - way in the distance a large white burdoning F>>N campervan getting all and sundry to play follow the leader ! Typical
Well as luck would have it Mr Hwy PatrolMan was cruising back South so as he eased on by I gave him the Seig Heil lefthand salute and gestured that ALL was not well pointing /fisting the air towards the culprit
Few seconds later and low and behold I spied the blue/red flashy things in me rears
Hmmmmm.... - did he take exception to my glove ?
Could there have been an accident ?
Ne ways he shot past guns ablazing and further up the road at the top of passing lanes he had collared the F>>k
Good job
As I waited my turn ( respectfully ) to pass up the double lanes the lovely Officer gave me a wave and thumbs up for dutifully bringing to his attention this potent ticking timebomb of a Menace - SLOW F>>N DRIVER !!!!

Many, many years ago...

"Sir, I strongly suspect you have been drinking and that you are over the limit" (I might have been)

"Where do you live, son?"

I said "about a hundred yards up the road" so he say's "Go home, go straight home, now"

That's about it as I've lived a very sheltered life.

In a similar vein: Theoretically: If' I'm pulled over for a minor offence.

A) I have to produce my licence. I do so and show it to the officer. Can I keep possession of it though?

B) He asks me to get out of the vehicle. Do I have to? It's just a minor speeding thing, say.

I saw a woman sitting in a traffic cop's front passenger seat with the copper in the driver's seat after an obvious stop and it looked dodgy to me, very dodgy.

No guessing please, I would prefer any serving or ex coppers to answer those questions, thanks.

Sure the cops get a bad rap,but they have to put up with shit from guys who sped etc, hell each time I have been caught speeding I deserved it,not for 2-3km over(well one was in a 70km,for 74km towards cop and 83km away, guess what I was hit with),aside from that one which I was pissed off,the rest I deserved, and last one 118km(thought I was 125)was my fault, cop was good to me.I was civil to him,and have been with guys who after cooling down and ranting at highway patrol, was advised if he had kept his cool would've been done for excesive speed only, not crossing line mid corner, and other stuff(which he did)end of dayinstead of $120 fine he copped(excuse pun)$500 and enough points to be walking.

I admit to being 828mgs 10years ago,at 4.00am,was civil to officers, they accepted my excuse of too pissed to walk, and even drove my car and me home, being civil to cops meant the judge was leniant($800 not 950 fine and 6mths not 9mths disq)as the guy before me in court recieved but judge said attitude was everything, funny how now on police 10/7 you hear dic culprit gets $500 and 6mths for similar reading,so much for hammering drink drivers.

Ah c'mon, stop trolling, who d'ya think you are - peasea?:nya:

Cops are strange buggers. Some of them can even be called human. Most, probably. But being human means you take with you, on the day, all the shit you wish you didn't have but do have. Or all the good stuff which just happened. Thus what recently happened colours your day....their day.

So cop one is tooling along thinking about the infant which just last night came into his arms, or the blonde who blew him to glory, or he beat the pants off the local dart team. He's feeling good till I hove over the horizon doing 120ish. But he's in a good mood. I get a warning.

Then there's cop two who just found his missus sleeping with a member of the Mongrel Mob, on account of he's not much of a goer. He's real pissed and looking for any outlet to assuage his rage. He can't beat her up on account of he's a cop. I hove over his horizon doing 106. He pings me and rants on about the law.

But all he's doing is off-loading his shit on me, like the good cop was offering me a part of his breeze.

There ain't no anser to it folks. Except to say, 'When you get Vlad The Imapler on a good day, then you're lucky. Get him on a bad day and you're poop-hole will pucker.'

It's just the nature of life. They...The cops...have the power. What affects their judgement about how to deal with you....you horrid transgressor....is their mood on the day.

And to expect them them to act like robots is childish. They're humans....well, mostly, suffering, and/or enjoying all the huamn shit we other humans suffer and enjoy.

I have to say, I kinda like cops. They're between me and the real bad guys.

Tried to dispute it at the police station and got told that maybe I shouldnt ride such a big bike!!! WTF... Now it has gone to court and I have to dispute it.... grrrrrrrr.

I usually do that but I print off the temp one they tell you to print off and poke it in the rego holder if in the car, or carry it in my pocket as proof.

I think you'll find the offense is "failure to display" a current registration label?

I went for a quick ride to opotiki last thursday and on my return trip to whakatane i came into kutarere and the police had a checkpoint set up with a lot of cars on the side of the road getting tickets. so i pull up to the cop who directs me to the side of the road and asks me to take my helmet off. while im taken my lid off he looks at my warrant and reg the breath tests me and looks at my licence. I was thinking here we go fuck im done since im only on my learners but to my surprise he said do you no your riding outside your licence conditions. I sad yes sir i am then he gives back my licence and say's have a nice ride and keep your speed down. so i put my helmet back on and rode off slowly. what a nice cop.

The old man always told us there were just as many thieves in the police as out. I have added to the police piggy bank over the years. Fair dues as by the law I was speeding even though some of them, I felt, were just gathering pennies for their annual xmas party than real cases. But so be it. Was stopped on Hwy 27 one day and received my piece of paper to add to the collection, but before we parted company he told me where his mates were hanging out further on up the road. I consider it more a game than anything else, always smile and wish them a great day.

A) I have to produce my licence. I do so and show it to the officer. Can I keep possession of it though?

Depends how fast you were going.... :shit:

B) He asks me to get out of the vehicle. Do I have to? It's just a minor speeding thing, say.

Sitting on the drug stash, perhaps?

I saw a woman sitting in a traffic cop's front passenger seat with the copper in the driver's seat after an obvious stop and it looked dodgy to me, very dodgy.

Was her head bobbing up and down? If so, then dodgy... Turangi (or was that Taumarunui?) Oral Contract I think it used to be called....

No guessing please, I would prefer any serving or ex coppers to answer those questions, thanks.

Can "inspect" the licence... Gotta hold a licence at arms length, then closer, then back out again, just so one can see it, these days.....

Getting out of the car can be for a check of ones sobriety... as in drugged/stoned and can't stand, for example.... not just pissed, which is easier to detect?

Dunno. Each to their own. A reasonable request?

Late last year I got on the Te Atatu on-ramp which curves around for like 270 degrees. So I
had the bike cranked over a fair bit and as I straightened up I wound the throttle out a bit as
I merged onto the NW motorway. Zapped along a bit then eased back to 100km/hr. Looking
in my mirrors I see a new blue SS Commodore weaving thru traffic behind me. I'm wondering if it's a cop or a guy wanting a race. So I move into the middle lane, followed 3 cars back by
SS guy. I then move into the slow lane and he cuts over as well and flicks on the party lights.
"Shit!" I'm thinking. I pull over at Western Springs and he pulls in behind me, while a regular
police car pulls in in front of me.

COP: Do you know why I pulled you over?
ME: (trying to be as polite as possible) I guess cos I may have been going a bit fast back there?
COP: Yup. I clocked you at 136kmh for 600 metres back there. You can come and have a look at the radar if you want.
ME: No it's ok, I believe you.
COP: Any reason for your speed?
ME: Um, is there anything I can say that will make any difference?
COP: Well you could say that it's a beautiful day, you're on a beautiful bike with heaps
of go and you felt like giving it a bit of a wind out....
ME: That pretty much sums it up.
COP: Sit tight for a minute....

He goes away, checks my drivers licence, has a yak to his mate in the other car (they were both Brits) and lets me off with a warning...AWESOME!! He explains that him and his mate
are both into bikes and that "you really need to choose the right place if your gonna open up
on a bike - we're everywhere you know" So yeah....a nice Bobby.
He also told me that they quite often get 2 cars involved when they clock a speeding bike, as
they quite often do a runner.

He was following so closely that I pulled over to watch what I thought would be some fun... but no, 4WD turns off (cue massive braking effort from dog van), dog van keeps going... no lights, no apparent interest in the 4WD, no hurry, just another tail gating retard. 1 or 2 metres from the car in front is not how an intelligent officer drives, or so I would have thought.

Was scootering :scooter: along on the Raro holiday with the wife behind cage. Saw the cops trapping in the distance (yes they have cops on the island, all two of them) - though nothing off it as I was behind the cage.

Next thing they pull me over and say, do you know you were speeding? You were doing 50kph (in raro without a helmet you can only go 40kph). Me says, How did you know I was behind a car! She brings over the gun and shows me the 50kph

Wife says, just pay the fine and get it over with. Gets my wallet out and shows my $20 fancy laminated freshly printed Cook Islands licence. She says, ok we won't give you a fine, its just a warning, please go 40. :innocent:

Next time you are pulled over for speeding, ask yourself 'Was I speeding? Yes, pay the fine. No, can I prove it... no Pay the fine.' don't argue

Yet to experience the constabularys' attitude toward me on 2 wheels.
but i was heading thru Mount Maunganui in the car one summers afternoon when an officer decided that my little rice rocket deserved a once over.

i stopped and had a chat to him while my mate (in the passenger seat) proceeded to cuss and abuse the cop (he's got more than enough "certificates")

I could see the officer was about to loose his cool and go over my car with a fine tooth comb looking for something to ping me on.

one he returned from his car with my licence my mate started up agian. so i thumped him. as far as i was concerned the guy was just doing his job and didn't need my mates lip.

with my mate rubbing his arm from the thump the cop just smiled, handed my licence back and said have a nice day.

I was reading the Listener today, (forgive me I was in a waiting room..), and a columnist was critiquing Police Ten 7 and complained the officers were far too polite to the twats they had to deal with. I agree, and as the columnist praised the retired officer narrating the show for his calling a spade an idiot so do I. Motorway Patrol officers are also far too polite!

Back a while ago a mate came off in the middle of nowhere.
Fortunately he was bruised but otherwise OK.
Bike was a bit of a mess.

First car on the scene was an unmarked police car.
Called us a tow truck on police comms as we had no cell coverage.
Asked us what happened, looked around and then said "If anyone asks, I was never here".

From all the cases I hear of bikers falling off and then being pinged for dangerous or reckless riding by the courts I thought it was a pretty solid thing to do.

That's what the columnist said, too. Obviously the retired Det. isn't constrained by the same rules. Still have to admire their self-control, though.

I'm cruising the highways and byways of Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana on a 2010 H-D 'bagger', so smooth and cruisy with stereo blaring, 92 degrees sunny day after being at the ZZ Top concert last night......ah bliss.

Life is too short to go around getting all festered-up over a person you have never dealt with and who is unlikely to ever affect you life...

Then get the fark of this silly forum and do what thee must!
Nah...I'm not jealous at all

Pic's...plenty many please!

Comes with years of practice.... every working day......

And no, retired Det Insp isn't hamstrung by the Police Code of Conduct..... good on him....

Been on one of them shows myself years ago, closing down one of the infamous North Shore parties, in Browns Bay. We told the kids to move on and go home.... and they did!!! I was so astounded my comment was "Jesus, they're actually doing what they were told for once..." and they aired it......

Even the normal little shits throwing bottles were hamming it up for the cameras by behaving for the 1st time...... ever..........

LOL!!! Nice one! Had to laugh last night, too! Two young thugs tracked by the dog trying to wheedle their way out of it by questioning the dog's ability and telling the officer to ask the dog if they were really the one's sought! And the drunk lady breaching her bail conditions...

Like the Jeremy Kyle show, (:gob: Shhhh...!), when the loser's question the results of the lie detector...

One hand signal and the dog barks... ya tell the dumb arses that the dog knows when you're lying. Ask a question, get an answer, give the dog the signal, "woof..."

"Oh, OK officer.... I did it..."

And the other old one... a photocopy machine with "You're lying" on a page, ready to print... Place some unconnected (damn....) wires onto the guy and ask a question. Hit "copy" when the answer is given... you know the rest..... But thems olden day times......:sunny:

Probably still work today, the crims aren't that bright are they...?

The other trick to fool the crims is to hook them up to a polygraph machine and tell them that the machine can indicate when they are lying - most crims aren't very smart and will believe it. The polygraph machine makes a very believable prop when interviewing crims that don't know better.

The thought that I might be jealous of someone riding a Harley never occurred to me.
