View Full Version : The Jade's Round-the-Clock-Ride - Wgtn (11 June)

*** EDIT: Now 10:30 on Saturday the 11th instead. ***

Well, my little bub is having its 100,000km birthday pretty soon and so we're going on a celebratory ride. The plan is to head over the hill and down to Lake Ferry for lunch (since I haven't been there yet, and also since that Western-something road is real nice). It should click over to 000000.0km on the way down there if my calculations are correct! And if I stick to my rations of kms per day until then.

So this is your official birthday invitation. Presents aren't neccessary but a new paint job for the frame, new instrument panel, and/or a CBR600F4 wouldn't be turned away.

Who's up for it (assuming the weather's ok)?

Caltex Rimutaka at 10:30.

Stink - do you work on Sat? I go to church in the morn on Sun and so I'd only have a half day to ride (Caltex at 1). Which could still be enough I guess if other people that are keen can't make it on Sat. I'll see what the response is.

Not sure if I'll come on Sunday. 1pm is pretty late to be setting out... (thats just me mind you)

You are too quick Velox I went straight back in to edit my comment to put in that I work!!

As it gets dark earlier now 1pm would be a little late but I would be up for it depending how long the ride would take as I don't know the route you are talking about.

Don't change it on my account though if more are happy with Sat. Thank you for considering the change though :niceone:

If you go on the Sat I hope you all have a good one. If the sunday I will see you there. Mind you Jazbug5 has just moved her do to the 11th

Noooo, seriously - don't let that stop you. Rides aren't supposed to be a race. I'll stick with you, it also gives me a chance to practice front tyre economy :niceone:

Definitely come, we haven't ridden together for ages! "Regrouping" along the way is the way to go I reckon. With bigger bikes there, I'm be in the same postition as you anyway!

I am seriously thinking of changing it to Sunday though. There's a few people that it would be easier for. I think 12:30 should be ok daylight-wise because that gives us 5 hours until it's dark. SC - is that all good with you? :niceone: It's not far to Lake Ferry at all - if you've crossed over those floodgates at the southern end of Lake Wairarapa then you're almost there.

For people that have been there, Lake Ferry does have a cafe/pub eh?

We could be keen too if we aren’t still crazily house hunting.

100,000 k is pretty impressive for a 250. Good work on your contribution.

Dang I'd be keen as the SRX is less than 200km short of it's 90,000km birthday.
But, stupidly, I'm off to the Brass Monkey this weekend. :devil2:
But I'll make myself available when SRX turns 100.
Have a good trip

Not sure if we're going to be in Wgtn or not, and I prefer earlier starts (less traffic, more kms, more cafe stops!)

Yes, Lake Ferry has a pub that does food - I haven't eaten there for many many years but apparently it's changed hands relatively recently and the meals are supposed to be very nice.

Ok - really, really sorry guys but I might change it back to Saturday. As far as I know that's ok with everyone except Taz (really sorry mate!). Something's come up for me on Sun and also 2 people can only make it on Sat, and one of them is my neighbour who I bought the bike off so it would be cool if he could make it. We could meet at 10:30 instead which gives us a bit more light (and warmth).

BUT I'll make the "executive decision" on Mon (I'm heading up to Rotorua and won't be online til then). Hope that works out with most people? Let me know if it doesn't. If the weather's crap on Sat but good on Sun, Sun can be the 'postponement' date.

Velox
11th June 2005, 02:16
Yeah - meet at 10.30ish and NC'll prob turn up by 11 so we may aswell just wait till then for her. (Don't all turn up at 11 though cause she might come earlier).

Ohhhh... need to play on the hill.... it's been too long.

Oh yeah - just to warn people - I'll have to randomly stop at the side of the road at some stage to take a pic of the odo turning over!!! So if I stop, the Jade hasn't suddenly carked it. Yet.

StoneChucker
11th June 2005, 09:36
It has been raining all night, and was LIGHTLY drizzling up until about 30 mins ago. It has stopped now. It's still almost completely clouded over, and the forcast is for more rain.

BUT

There is a big patch of lovely clearing sky looking like it wants to break in. My personal opinion is that since it's been raining all night, it might clear up. And, it might be fine over the hill. I'm going to take a chance and head out. Will get to Caltex between 10:30 and 11:00.

Hope the weather plays ball, it's been ok-ish all week, and now this for the weekend. Oh, you are so cruel to us up there

Ok - well I would post photos but I don't know how.

It turned out to be a real good ride compared to what it looked like it would be judging by the weather in Wgtn. It was sunny at Lake Ferry and what an awesome pub/cafe!!! I love it. Good kai, but a lil bit expensive I guess. (But then again I'm a stingy student). About 8 of us met up (I'm guessing the dodgey weather put off most of the others who were going to come) and the Jade had its "big moment" a few ks down the road between Featherston and Martinborough - woohoo!!!
Thanks guys for coming to celebrate my bub's birthday! :niceone:
