I long ago decided I wanted something different - something unique.

I've got no tattoos at all and no piercings.

So I have succeeded and am truly in a minority...Anarchy rules yeah! The tattooed people are now the conformists and I am now anti-establishment.:Punk:

Ya what, what about this then, huh ???

I gotta a wee butterfly, not going to show ya as it's for McJim's eyes only.

I hope to get a celtic one in a few years time, not sure where, will be arm or shoulder most likely. I like celtic bands, part of my heritage so think it's quite fitting.

Butterfly was a farewell gift from my galfriends at work when I left for my OE at 21yrs old. Yep pain and needles for my farewell gift but it was worth it. Had to laugh, young fella getting a tattoo at the same time they stopped working on because he kept holding his breath (pass out material). You just breath through the pain, bit like childbirth. Nerves are funny things, don't feel it then hits a sensitive area - ouch ouch ouch....

Hah yeah we get them for all sorts of reasons. Mine was also a gift. I had remained tattoo free for 43 years with no intention of anything of the sort being in my conservative thinking industry. I was flying a Dash 8 in the northern pacific (RMI) and was put in a position where I chose to do a mercy flight for a criticly injured young (7) girl. As is often the way in the third world with life and death, the owners of the aircraft didn't want me to help her and threatened me with mutiny. I kicked them off the aircraft, boarded up her and her family and flew through the night to a place called Kwajalein, a US military base with probably the best hospital in the pacific. She would not have survived without appropriate surgery. Her family carved into my leg, an ancient pacific map as a painful thankyou.

Well the old chook legs don't see that much light of day (hah wearing bike gear all the time thats why!) Took this one a couple of hours after it was done to send home to a shocked Mrs T.. Its called a 'stick chart' (in English) and they used it to remember the major atolls in the group.

wow, family tradition, i really like that! too bad my family are all prudes whom i had to hide mine from for a month before accidentally wearing a singlet one day when they were home... got a verbal beating for that one.. even though i was already 18 when i got it...

i know how that feels not that i really had to hide my tat as family is down the other end of the country, my dad saw mine accidentally on my 21st (year and a half after the tat was done) and spat the dummy.....
mind you he is now used to me doing things he strongly disagrees with, finally has come to terms with me on a bike :Punk:

Okay, my one ... I've had it since 1983.

I'd always had a thing about wolves and werewolves in particular. My mate Andrew (best mate since 1982, best man, godfather of our youngest) drew the original picture for me when we were 17.

Earlier in my life I toyed with the idea of joining a motorcycle gang, and had it done at the gang pad.

Doesn't look as cool as the original pic, and it's gone a bit soft and rough over the years, but I still like it. The fact that my best mate drew it for me makes it special.

bit of a crappy pic taken with my phone. but this is mine on my shoulder. its a pentagram, it symbolises the 5 elements in the universe, fire air earth water and spirit. i had this one done nearly 4 years ago and my grandmother paid for me to get it dun for my birthday present. I have 2 more being designed for me and one will contain a fair bit of colour, i love my tat and im proud of it - its part of who i am. i know a few more KB's on here who ought to show their gorgeous tats - come on you lot...

Interesting thread this one. I like the fact that what is seen from the outside is often seen quite differently from the inside, if that makes sense.

I was hoping to see a few recommendations for the artists associated with various objet d'art but sadly no such luck. Anybody have an artist recommendation for the Wellington region?

Bit pissed off today actually, some young guy who turned up at my flat a week ago has gone and copied me getting "honour" tattooed on his chest. I had that done for a reason, not cause I thought it'd make me look tough.

He was telling me when he came round he wanted to get "pride". I asked him why "I dunno, it'd look mean though."

Are they cool? How many do you have? Whats the best you have ever seen?
Don't most bikers have tatts, are there any riders that dont have one?
I'm thinking to get sum. why the phuk not aye?

The meanest one Ive ever seen is prolly a tarantula that was done to cover a guys entire top of skull, in a movie called "love and a .45".
Otherwise, and i may be sick, i really like the 3rd reich tatts, like the nazi eagle, swastika etc...
And the typical white guy tatts like the grim reaper, or skulls.

Jayka
10th April 2010, 10:01
Not really into the 'white guy' tatts LOL but yeah I got a few. I got one my tribal design on my left arm from my shoulder to my elbow, a sydistic butterfly on my ankle, and a silver fern that has koro designs running thru it covering my right shoulder blade. I got my own tattoo kit too etc... so whenever I feel the need for something new I just pull out the gun and do it!!

The best one that Ive seen is my uncles one. He's got a scorpian on his back. Its ripping thru his skin and behind it you can see his spine and ribs and the scorpian is made of metal and has star constallations like the Milky Way on it etc... Its so detailed that it took 8hours to just do the outlining, then another 10hrs for it to be coloured in.

My best advice is to make sure that you find something that you really like before getting inked- cos it dont scrub off LOL. My mate found a celt design that he really liked, but he wasnt sure about it, so he got the design enlarged onto a A3 piece of paper and stuck it to the ceiling in his bedroom above his bed. Then every morning when he woke up that was the first thing he saw. After about a month he wasnt keen on getting it done cos he picked out all the stuff he didnt like about it. So yeah he went and found something else, found that he could live with it and then got inked and now he's happy as......

When I had it done I was a bit slimmer,it looked great on my flat hard belly, now i'n a few years older & a few kgs heavier, my boys call it my 3D elephant, cheeky buggers.

Sit on it for awhile, save some coin, get a professional to do it.

When it comes to tatts, you want quality, and if your not prepared to pay what that costs, then get a different hobby.

Or just get some shit put on for life.

Tats may (or may not) be cool but... They won't make you cool....

I just have this feeling that in a few years there is going to be a lot of 45 year olds sitting in front of HR people (going for the big dream job) trying to be taken seriously with there ears flapping on their shoulders and "AC/DC or Death" tattooed on their foreheads...

I'm and old skanky uncool git with a tendancy to be a bit trashy so I kinda avoided em incase it made things worse..

The tattoo has taken on a whole new role in life today. It is no longer applied with the same reason it was initially meant for.
Many moons ago it was a mark of distinction, respect, mana and the designs were meant to be significant life pictures. Shame there is little or no respect for them nowadays. They are treated more as common jewellery than life events.
I have a family emblem on one arm off my shoulder with my kids names and pictures that are associated with them. On the other i have one that represents my past and present attitude to life. Neither will be removed or changed and there aint no regrets.

Amen to the first comment! Don't get a tat to look cool get them because you like the design! Never on your face or hands.
Conservative comments some will think but you never know what you'll be up to in 10 years.

To the second comment I got mine when I was 18 or so but had the brains to get them on the shoulders. I'm an architectural designer doing peoples additions, alterations and new homes, now I'm not a builder any more and pleased I did. I don't give a hoot about the "people should except you as you are" comments that might be posted, they don't, people will always judge you in the first 60 seconds, and I want to eat. I can still wear a summer business shirt and look like Mr professional architect LOL!!

In fact I still like them so much I got them recoloured and my kids names added for my birthday 2 years ago, 3 sessions of about 4 hours or so each.
Its art so go to a lot of shops and don't look at the shops work, look at the individual tattooists work. I went to heaps and liked one ladies shadowing and colour blending work. So when I went in I insisted on her and only her. Tattooing has come a long way since I was 18 and there are lots of styles and choices out there now. The lines have got much finer and the art much more individual. In my day it was fat outlines, coloured in, and they all looked similar no matter who you went to, now its much different. Choose wisely, go home think about it, then go back and get it, its with you for life! good luck!

I got a cartoon character done at the top of my arm over 20 years ago. Will never regret it, it reminds me of a time and place, and bird etc etc, but I wish I had put a bit more thought in to it and got a decent one that doesn't make me look like a twat.

here is a manner... (manner is the right word??)
it happened to be something cool years ago, but now it's so obvious and kept in such a stupid way that it's difficult spotting someone without one.
i don't have any, and neither my wife, which is pretty surprising: consider that we know only two other couples without tattoos on both.

i don't like the tattoo for "style". sometimes ago i thought to have a little pilot wings, but my body is not o spectacular, so it wouldn't be of any interest... :D :D
my sister in law (one of them) is a md, and i suggested her to have a caduceus, but she became a mother early after so her mind has turned away...

obviously there are different considerations about maori and other tribals significance: for them is a different story...

Paul you have meet me many a time and may or may not have seen my ink, I will never have a tat that cant be hidden by a T shirt and shorts, as they are mine not the worlds, nothing to do with being cool. the random shit ya see around theses day on the young ones is for posing purpose and there I agree with ya post.

yeah agree with ya aye, my 1st tat was at 28 and IMO I dont believe getting one earler than that, its not till you know were you are in life and who you are that a personal choice like a tat can be made with no regrets.
Tattooing is a art form (not the random shit of the wall) and it is the only thing in life you can wast ya money on and take to ya grave.
pic an example of what I consider awesom art.
