dont have a decent photo, but have a little rose on my left ankle roughly 10cm tall. cost me $40, took roughly 1/2 hour to do.
future tattoos include a cartoon kiwi hugging a harley logo on my breast, a garden of monarchs to commemorate people i love who have passed away and a number of others.

Don't have one yet but as soon as I have the spare cash I'm gonna get this. Probably on my inner right forearm.
The Waylander design I'm gonna get on my back between the shoulderblades at the base of my neck so that part of it shows even when I have a t-shirt on.
I'm still deciding where I want to put my ones, have a few really good ideas but dont know what some would think if I *shudder* got married..
edit: just realised what that meant

I really like the way the some of my islander friends have tats that tell their story and have a message about their origins, so I got some that I believe do the same.

Just shapes, but they mean a lot to me.
The Eureka flag is an icon for independent Aussie bikers.

I had some awesome tattoos of a Silver Fern. That said 'All Blacks'.
I got them from a weetbix pack the other day.
Only took a few minutes to put on.
Only lasted a couple of days tho. I miss them already =-(

Just wait then - they don't wash off.
And you might end up in a relationship like mine - we have some matching tatoos. She's got the eureka flag on her tummy - christmas presents done same afternoon.
I have a tatoo that runs the length of my penis, in 12 gauge font Arial. It says, "Hellooooo, meat to please you, my name is Biff, I'm not from around these parts don't you know. Here' my phone number, with an international dialling code XXXX XX XXXX XXXXXX, Please feel free to phone me anytime."
I still have plenty of room left to add additional text as well.
I also have tats on both upper arms. On my right upper arm is an ancient Pict warrior symbol, as my surname, which is an ancient southern European name, is roughly translated as Pict warrior.
On my left upper arm is a dragon with the word CYMRU underneath it. Which is Welsh for Wales.

er...like WILLY becomes 'Welcome to Jamaica Have a nice day'?
Yours in it's 'compact' form could read "HEAMAROID" :devil2:

Getting a bold star with a thin line around that on the top of both pecs and having the names of my 2 boys on each 9 get that done in 4 weeks after rugby finished and getting a scottish highland piper up the length of my calf at november when one of my old mates from scotland comes over for a holiday

These are mine so far...
The armband is on my right upper arm and was my 1st! I got it on my 26th birthday by Ken in the James Smiths Markets.
The celtic one is on my left thigh, I got it done in 2003 just before I started my degree at Uni - new beginnings and all that. I got it done by Roger in Cuba Street.
I have lots of other ideas but no funds at the moment.*sigh* I don't want to have too much of a hotch potch though, I really like to see people who have a mural that's all interlinked rather than a whole lotta random tats.

My body is a blank canvas. And so it shall remain. Largely due to an irrational fear of needles; paranoia about infectious diseases; a low threshold to pain; and a belief that tatooists probably can't spell or punctuate particularly well...
And I'm not much enamoured of large-breasted, scantily-clad women wrestling snakes and skulls, or limbs that look like they've been run over by a Firestone Firehawk. But to each their own!

Once, years ago in Napier, I was confronted by a rather large Maori chap who had the words "Hells Angles" tatooed on his forehead. I quickly realised that hysterical laughing about the absence of an apostrophe AND the spelling error could have been inappropriate...

Hey CSL when you were in the markets did you see a photo up on the wall of a SS dagger down a forearm?
Havn't had any work done in the last few years, but when I lived in welly the two I have were done by Jason up in the markets, and he used to have a photo of the dagger on my forearm up on the wall.
Have the dagger, and also a decent sized (but still incomplete  ) thor/nordic scene on my upper arm.
Will post some pics when I get home and find em.
Need more $$$ *sigh* things like new ink just perpetually fall down the priority list thou sadly.

Thank you. It has an awesome meaning too.
It stands for my mother who is now my gaurdian angel. So she's always there watching over me, she's got my back, so to say :)
She passed away in 2002 from cancer. It means the most to me. The one on my arm has a meaning to, but I won't go into that one :)

Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them. (KJV)

Got four - three I can show and one you won't be seeing unless you're a doctor!
Always wanted one, got the first one in a place where not many people see it and my mother told me I was mad... "who's ever going to see it THERE?" she said, so I got the next three on my left front shoulder. Tiger, Pisces symbol and Chinese characters for the tiger. Born in the year of the Tiger, and a Pisces - that's why.
Probably won't be getting any more, although my niece is married to an excellent tattooist, Dave from Tattoo Freaky in Lower Hutt.

None as of yet, started collecting piercings slowly a couple of years ago though. Tongue, labret and right nipple so far. Unsure what else I want to get but it'll probably adorn my left ear somehow.
I am about 75% sure of what I want to get tattooed however. Right shoulder and arm all the way down to just below my elbow and my left hip, from the hipbone down to most of the way down my thigh. Celtic knots in a particular pattern (different patterns mean different things) which means loyalty. Maybe next winter.

Just one so far - upper right arm, a pattern I designed based on a knotwork pattern I liked.
Want to get a triskelion of spirals on my upper left arm when I can justify spending the money on something other than kids, necessities and motorbikes. It's on the list way after what my family needs, new glasses, new riding gear, mods for the bike and anything else important that crops up along the way.

Where's the option for "don't have any but would like them"? Only things stopping me are age, knowing what I want and where to put it.
I want something that resembles(sp?) me and something that I know I won't grow out of. So choosing it is hard. And, I can't draw for shit, so would have to get someone to draw it for me. Possibly chinese symbol for ram, because I'm the year of the ram. But not too sure.

fair enough too. it is a pretty big choice to make and not to be rushed into, lol. i dont plan on making 80, so yeh, lol. my only sorrow is they will rot with me. if i could get them cut off and preserved when i die, itd be nice [maybe inserted somehow into a headstone?]

Interesting to see how many people here, do have and dont have tattoos and their reasons for them.
I have 4 so far, and am planning on another, not quite sure what yet...
The first one had a story to it, guess i can tell you lot eh? ;)
Me and buellbabe were at tech together and had both been getting up the courage to say ...whadddaya think about tattoos/I'm thinking of getting one. When we finally did we cracked up that we were both thinking the same thing  So off we toddled on her TT Bike across the harbour bridge in the pouring rain to Kay road and the best tattoo parlour of the age, Auckland tattoo studio. We got all set up and when my turn came, he got started and about halfway thru when I promptly fainted and fell of the chair :gob: ah well, still went back for more over the years, they were never as bad as that first one tho!
The most recent one has a story too... decided at the March Hare Bike Rally to have Digs from Digga Tattoo design one for me across my lower back. He did a great job, and I had it done there and then, in the truck with people walking past and looking in the window going loooooahhhhhhoooouccchhh... 2 hours later and it was done! very nice job too.
So on with planning the next one...

Im tattoo-less, but probably more out of laziness than fear of needles, and whatever. I have had ideas of ink I'd like to get done, I originally wanted a small 2 inch high ren and stimpy on my right shoulder, which I would still get done.
I like the idea of having "wideload" across my ass, like in the simpsons, failing that, maybe a couple of MX logos, like a-stars/thor/fox etc etc.

Have two.. both on my left arm.
Dagger on my inner forearm (from wrist to elbow), and a half completed viking scene on my upper arm/shoulder. Bout 8 hours work all up.. Getting the viking scene finished is on the list of things to do, but I keep finding other things to spend the money on. I really need to start saving so I can get the sleeve finished and start on another part of my body :-)

It hurts while your getting it, not afterwards at all. Not the slightest bit sore, not even to the touch.
I've got a couple of half sleeves and some of my back done. The bits under the arms stayed a little sore for a day after. Especially when the Mrs manages to get one of her razor sharp nails anywhere near. First lesson learnt... nasty sex and fresh tattoos can tend to kill the mood somewhat :nono:

Got my Taulima done a couple of years ago. Spent a whole lot of years deciding what I wanted done. Done in black by Roger at Roger's Tattoo Art, Cuba St Wellington. I took my intial design in there to just get some advice and went back the next day for ink. Thninking 'bout my next for the opposite shoulder.
It's shown somewhere in here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=20592&highlight=tattoo)....

Upper arm outside is nothing - repetitive scratching that gets more and more annoying until you're about to tell them to piss off and then the scratching moves to another part of the tat. Painful, no, varying degrees of irritating, yes.
It was painful a couple of hours later, however, when my ex-wife jabbed me in the arm with her fingernail.

Where's the option for "don't have any but would like them"? Only things stopping me are age, knowing what I want and where to put it.
.
Yep, same. I was looking for that choice as well.
I will be getting one at some point. Thought about an arm band, but don't wanna look too tuff and ya need sexy arms right up to 80 years old.....so I don't want my picture to look like a constatina (sp?) when i'm 80.
I'm looking for the perfect quote as I go through life and then I
will get it tattooed in the oldest language (probably shoulder or upper arm toward top of the shoulder).
Theres a cool website that you can access that converts different languages for tattoos that you want in a language of your choice.

Yeah. Found mine a couple of years back. "Grow older but never grow up". Ask my family ... that's me all over. I'm going to get it done under a picture of Tigger (from Winnie the Pooh) bouncing on his his tail with a goofy look on his face. Just seems so appropriate.

Boobs are perfect enough without putting perminant ink on them!
I have to agree. Boobs weren't really an option.
I did like the pic in Placid's thread though, of the tat that went down the side and then across the stomach. Gorgeous... However, as has been mentioned, I want it somewhere that I can cover it up when I want to (and, of course, show it when I want to too :blip:)

Hi Squeak. Because that area is subject to a lot of wear and tear, I have heard that tattoos there don't last too well.

I'd colour them - gonna get my eureka stars white before the summer.
Some of my motivation to get them came form a few islander guys I played basketball with. They had 'their story' in a geometric band on their arms.

Mine is on the back of my left leg (the calf). It covers the entire muscle and it hurt like hell giving me a limp for about a week. It was done in Micronesia as a gift for something I did for someone (Helped save a kids life). It is an ancient Navigation chart they used on sea voyages. I was flying planes around the Pacific at the time and they saw it as an appropriate design. I was 42 at the time.

And "some words" of significance for my partner on my lower back right by my arse.
I want more, but just haven't got around to it yet. I want to extend the design on my left ankle to come up around my leg. And I want to add some colour and bits and pieces to my "words" on my lower back.

I decided I wanted to make a personal statement and be in the minority - so I haven't got a tattoo or any piercings!
I dipped out like that, when I got mine done it was considered anti-social and almost exclusivly servicemen, criminals, skinheads or bikers that had them.Used to get stared at in the street(mine were a bit excessive for the time),refused service in pubs e.t.c.Now it`s gone mainstream and everyone`s got them, there are 5 tattoo parlours in the city-centre and plenty more in the surrounding areas. This in a city with 3 decent book shops.I didn`t get an earring because everyone else I knew had them, now I`d avoid tattoos for the same reason,it`s a fashion not lifestyle thing now, or at least go for something totally different.Plenty of idiots here with soccer club badges tattooed on themselves, best bit is often they`ve never seen the teams except on t.v. It`s the "herd" thing I hate, you`ll women here with a dolphin or rose on one shoulder and a top halfway up their back showing off some kind of tribal design,as a fashion statement it strikes me as pretty bloody permanent and I reckon whoever comes up with makeup that will convincingly cover these things up will make a killing when they go out of fashion, which they will.

I doubt it.. some things like roses often have sentimental reasons for getting and dont seem to go out of fashion at all. Was popular 20 years ago when i got mine and prob just a much today, esp for women. And very personal to me as well. Tribal/celtic designs often have a lot of meaning to people as well. Sounds like you are kinda dissing people just cos they like to show them off? Maybe I'm wrong...
Maybe some get tattoos as a fashion statement (more fools them I say), but most people I personally know have generally had a lot of thought go into getting one and what their designs would be. Not a spur of the moment thing, tho strangly enough my last one was ;) Getting it wasn't but FINALLY seeing a design I liked and getting it there and then.. was.

Yes, this is true! Just not my cuppa tea, or maybe it was all the really ugly looking muffs on display that made me cringe! (Do any muffs look nice, don't know, only ever really seen one (that would be my own)).:gob:

I spent three hours geetting a stylised red bellie back snake [complete with pirelli diablo 'scales'] on my right arm. It covers virtually all the space from elbow to shoulder. [picture to follow]
What I would like to say to those contemplating a tatt: some serious consideration should be given to preparation before hand. The pain could be described as someone drawing a scalpel blade through the skin, it hurts even the bravest. Dont get pissed or take drugs before hand, get a good feed and take some water to drink.

I have four tattoos at the moment. The largest across my lower back.. then one on each ankle and another on my right wrist. I don't think I'd describe any of them as being particularly painful while they were being done, then as soon as the swelling goes down, you're away laughing.

I felt EVERYthing.. then she had to do the other bloody eye!!!! I initially really wanted to get the lower ones done too.. but have decided bugger that!!!

i gots a tat on my left shoulder blade, its a capricorn symbol interlinked with the number 89 to symbolise my birth year and month. my friend designed it for me. I'll get a pic up when i'm on my own pc though...
I plan to get 2 more, a chinese dragon (zodiac sign) and a tiger ...
I only plan to get tats that really mean something to me as a person and reflect who i am. I know loads of people who regret having theirs done because they don't like them anymore and dont want the cost of getting them removed.( let alone the pain)

I have an image of a monarch butterfly that I adjusted to how i wanted it that I wanted on my right foot.. Can't go in that spot now cause of bad scarring.. So will need to rethink that one.. i definately know I want the monarch done though.. Just need to rethink about where exactly
I've always wanted realistic roses done in black and white shading.. Had 2 pages scanned from the front of old tattoo magazines.. That show the idea of what I wanna go for.. And I think I've finally worked something out.. I want that to go from my lower right of my back, around and down my outter leg..
All my work will be done in black and white.. colour doesn't appeal to me much.. Though I love my mums tattoo of a fairy on her back..
When I have the $$$ to get this work done I will.. Right now its a dream away.. But it gives me time to think about it.. Though for the last 3 years I have wanted both of these tattoos done..
Will post pics one day.. lol

obviously from someone without one at a guess?
For a lot of people (tho not all) tattoos are an extension of themselves, something that shows their individuallity... not just the usual run of the mill human, bit like us motorcyclists really. Hardly a form of desecration more a form of accentuation.
Wouldn't trade any of mine, and always on the lookout for my next one. Plenty of thought have gone into each one of them, and I can see the same with Linuxrunner's one.
Each to their own, to have one or not ;)

Mine all have special meaning that is personal to only myself (eg: my son's name & birth date )
To tat or not to tat is a very personal issue, & it is not appropriate for "one" group to run the "other" group down, just because it doesn't fit with "their" lifestyle or belief. :oi-grr:
