Well been close to 30ys since I owned my last XT500G ,
one of 5 other XT/TT500 I have had over the years & today number 6 was dropped off by BikeTrans to my door from Christchurch . Got some nice extra's with Ohlins piggy back shocks , Fat Alloy bars , new alloy 18" motard rim's ,chain & sprockets , new guards & fresh Reg & Wof , took her out for a blat tonite which showed up some jetting issues but nothing I haven't encountered before so will sort that out once I see what main jet is inside the carby . All in all a good condition TT500 G that rides & feels great on the road . Will pull it right down over the next few weeks & clean everything up & repaint bits that need a freshen up . 30ys of wear & tear takes it toll so I think it should come up pretty sweet with some TLC .

Nice ! Sensei Yeah I been looking (read drooling) at these on trademe. Been nearly 30 years since I had my XT500 and think it would be cool to own another one.

This one is a bit expensive though

That looks suspiciously like Don's bike (Pitlane)
Think the story goes that he brought it new then sold it and recently found it again and trimmed it up with the road gear and used it for a commuting back & forth from work....same sort of trip down memory lane experience, but having been spoilt by his hot-rodded busa he found it a bit agricultural for what he wanted.
Should be a good bike

Thought it was  I had a quick nosey over it only a couple of weeks ago.
There's something special about the older generation big bangers of that era, I restored 79 XR500 a few years back but had mates who had XT/TT500s though at the time they had stripped their bikes down to flat tracker/motard style rides

Use to stop and ride up rivers and on the beach, fire breaks and then carry on to your desternation... great fun.

Not one to leave things alone I have had a vision in my head for a very long time about making a twin muffler sytem for a TT500 & since I have just brought another one it was time to put my plan into action . First find a complete CRF250R twin muffler system on Trademe that was easy then pay $106 for the lot !! LOL Fuck I love trademe for stupid deals , then out to shed & start to piece it together & see if my idea will fit & work out & from the looks it is going to be a successful. Afew more bends & fabricate a Y join & Operation CRF500 will be finished . A pic of what it going to end up like always helps :Punk:

Well being abit now & have sorted the jetting & afew other bits on my TT & got my CRF 250 Twin system all sorted & running sweet as . Fuck it sounds excellent , got mate to go for a hook up the road so I could hear what it was like & there no new 4 stroke that sounds like an old school old air cooled singles . Anyho got to take her out round Tarata Saddle something I haven't done since my last TT500 some 29ys ago & what a trip down memory lane it was with the bike sounding & handling great apart from the lack of brakes which is all part of owning a 31year old bike but when ridden right you don't really have to use them much . Stopped at the top of the saddle for a Bourbon & some pics of the bike & even took one for a guy that turned up in a car & had owned one years ago as well & asked if he could get a picture of him on it so said no worrys , he was rapped . Waiting for my sidecover decals to turn up to finish off the covers & all there is left to do is ride the fuck out of it this summer !!

Not everyones thing but if you have owned one then you will always have a soft spot for them . :Punk:Never owned one but have had a gooey soft spot for the TT500s since mid '80s. The BF at the time had one unique TT in an RM400 frame. Originated somewhere in Chch and was equipped with road gearing and tyres. Was the most awesome wheelie machine! My sister and I decided to take it for a joyride one day while BF was at work...only problem was we didn't have the "knack" of starting it with the decompression lever so when it kicked back it nearly broke my sisters foot.

We did eventually get it going so I wanted to "test" it out. Got it up to about the ton when the headshake kicked in and I nearly shat myself. Decided it was more fun on the back after that.

Still regret not taking any pics of the beast.

Thats one fine looking example you got yourself there Scott.:niceone:

[QUOTE=Big Dave;1129865585]You should get along to one of the greybeards meets.

Have been there Dave when I had my IT465 , PE400 , YZ490's days , great fun but got expensive fixing stuff as it was hard to find parts . Still make the time to go & watch the VMX here when in town .
