I'm looking at getting one of those video cameras that attach to the bike or to my helmet, it's not for racing or anything just for when I go out for a putter around :innocent:

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should be looking at?

I had a look at a GoPro (http://www.goprocamera.com) today which looked pretty good, would one of these be a good choice?

Hey there chap.

The VIO POV 1.5 seems to be the cream of the crop, but you pay for it. There are a heap of other cheaper alternatives like a standard digital camera used HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ha6ZdKkiIbA)

Some usefull KB posts below..

Post up your findings, i would be interested in some of the cheaper alternatives.

I have a Gopro HD, love it.
Here is what it looks like even after it has been compressed for youtube (watch the 720p version)

When played directly onto our HD TV it is awesome!!

Apart from looking like a hell of a lot of run, the sound is good to.
Nice ride to.

Yep, the sound quality is really good. Plus it has a fully waterproof case so it can be used in the rain as well.
I have crashed a couple of time and the suction cup has not let go either

Awesome thanks guys, that was really helpful, now I have to decide on one! :eek5:

I'd seen a couple of those when I googled earlier but wasn't sure which ones were good. It seems to boil down to the GoPro, VIO POV 1.5 and the Contour HD. Anyone know where in Welly I can get a look at the VIO and the Contour to get an idea of what they are like??

Kendog, how did you setup the GoPro it seems to lack a viewfinder, LCD screen, a "Laser" etc...
Was it just trial and error untill you got it?

Pretty much trial and error, but it seems easy to get about right.
I have not had any issues other than a little high or low, it shoots so wide that is not a problem.

Wearable?
If your going to wear it get something small and light as possible. I recently picked up a little cam smaller than a box of matches to 'wear'. I still have the other bike cameras but it is such a relief to have a camera that doesn't feel like its there.
Not the greatest quality - but ok. And at the price I paid for it I could afford to buy a new one every year for the next 10 years and still have cash left over rather than buying a go-pro.

Would love a go-pro for the bike in a few years. But fuck running/riding with one strapped to you.

Hmm, perhaps "Wearable" wasn't the best term to use but it was all could think of at the time :) I guess that I really meant "an awesome video camera that I can use while riding my bike that you guys have had good experiences with or heard good things about" but that’s way too long for a title

Thanks for the links and clips guys, those videos are awesome. I'm surprised about the quality as I thought there would be more vibration and jellyfishing.

Apparently there is an LCD backpack for the GoPro coming out sometime soon to.

DrunkenMistake, so that suction cup is strong enough to hold it with out worrying about it falling off?

I have a gopro hd and think they are the best for the $$$ you spend, the pov's are a good camera as well but are not the quality of the gopro but still really good. good thing about the pov is the screen on the dvr so you can see what you are shootiong.
Contours... we used some for the world jetboat marathon that was in nz last year and only got a few shots from them, the batterys did not last long and when the died they did not end the file on the card so the vids were no good... you had to stop the camera to save the vid image so it was usable.... they may of fixed that issue now but i am not sure...

Gopro are bringing out the screen part sometime and that will make a great camera even better

the suction cup works real well and holds on real tight...

this vid is using the suction cup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo-sgQVC_oY

this one is the rollbar mount getting up to about 100mph in parts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9nU9WO0JAA

this is the double sided tape mount on the top shock mount http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sojl3-uxqdE

vid quality not 100% the best as I was working out converting them and editing them so not as good as the originals

Hmm, taken me a little while to get back :o

Thanks for all of the demo videos!

I've definately decided on the GoPro, I'm just waiting to hear when the LCD screen comes out here.
