I wouldn't go with the cheapest... often have a history of refusing to pay out, or do their best not to pay out (not saying any insurance company doesn't do that) but usually best to avoid them.
That said, no need to go for the most expensive either.

NAC took about 2 months to pay for repairs to my car after I crashed it. I even had to see a JP to get my insurance claim signed!

I use Classic Cover. They are based in Hamilton I think. But you gotta be over 25 and have a bike over 250 cc

As a reconised Insurance repair agent, I would Highly recomend Dave from Kiwiwbike Insurance
He always works for his customer, NOT for the Insurance company
I have never had any issue;s with claims using this company

+1. I have found Dave to be great as well.
You can find motorcycle insurance companies in the Wiki at this URL:

But $200/year doesn't sound that bad to me ...

I'd recommend Golighty (sp?), underwritten by Vero I think (ie Vero handles the claims, I think thats the right insurance term?)
Bought a bike about a month ago, was riding it from Auckland to Queenstown, and crashed. Vero was excellent on the day, organised a pickup from Queenstown Motorcycles (big ups to them too), and had me and the bike back the next day.
They've been great to deal with and the premiums were really reasonable, I'll definitely insure wiith them again.

Almost. They told me only requirement is over 30 and full licence.
Certainly cheap, compared to others. But like most, they no longer cover trackdays.
I think Kiwibike is the only one who still do.

Statutory declaration - usually means that they didn't believe or were suspicious about some aspect of your claim.

Kiwibike.
I changed after AMI was taking liberties with my arse and also my wallet. Intensive phoning around all of the insurance companies resulted with the best price and also the best people to spend money with.
Give them a call and have a quick chat.

Last track day kiwibike wanted an extra $50 bucks to be covered for the day. Dave said it depended on who was running the track day........racing versus "training" day I trhink ...
That said I insure with Kiwibike and they are my recommendation.

Up to now we've always insured through Kiwibike and they have always been excellent and very helpful. I now have hubby's bike insured through Classic Cover (Vero) as Kiwibike simply couldn't come close to the price, and the Vero policy is good too.
There are variables, some companies are more expensive for bigger bikes etc.
Pays to always shop around for prices, but the cheapest is not always the best.
Despite having all our non-bike insurances with AMI, their quotes for premiums for the bikes were just outrageous.

I looked at Classic but there is one more catch. Your bike is only covered if you park overnight at your place. If you go somewhere else for the night then you have no cover.
I decided all the restrictions with Classic was too great for me, and that I could easily be leaving myself with no cover by accidentally not complying with their requirements.

NAC were the cheapest for me, but i went with the next cheapest which was AMI.
200 and something for full cover (inludes a 40% no claims bonus).
i reckon this is cheap as, especially as I am under 25, and on my learners.
kiwibike was expensive for me, so was vero.

I use swann, was cheapest price I got. My bike is an 88 so classic cover applied.
Had no claims yet and have had a 28 day licence suspension which made little difference.
I recommend getting a price from them, Kiwibike and another for comparison.

me and my uncle both use them for our bikes, he had a claim with them and was pretty hassle free i think. <200 for full cover is pretty damn good I reckon, especially on those deathtrap 650's :shit:
Not too sure about track day cover though, he's done quite a few so will have to ask him sometime.

$50 for a track day coverage isn't really bad at all considering the amount of damage you could do to a bike in a high speed off at a track day.... i'd rather be covered than not.
I'm another one with Kiwibike insurance.
Haven't been with them long, but can say Dave sure is helpful and friendly.
Would definately recommended them.

When i say a few hundred, i mean at least 800 plus a year. I have AMI with car and contents which I am happy to keep with them . Just think there must be a better premium cover than what i pay now and i want a good insurer that will get things sorted ASAP without any bull shit to getting any claim.

Swann... without a doubt. I was quoted $1340/yr to cover my HD with State, got put on to Swann by Rob at Auckland Motorcycles and they gave me very comprehensive full cover (inc track day coverage) for $760/yr and it is even cheaper for members of HOG. Well worth a look.

I'm a kiwibike fan but they wanted to charge me a colon-full after a recent "incident" (will probably go back after the first year hump). Vero have a good name for non-bike stuff so I imagine their ok with bikes (a mate in the industry reckons they're "above average price but you don't get claim hassles").
I find insurance has so many variables that whats good for the goose could be a both-thumbs-out-fisting for the gander.
Except AMI, they can suck the cheese out through my perforated leather crotch.

I have tried most but have ended up coming back to AMI purely for convenience. I am over 25 and have a perfect record with no claims. They are only marginally more than other places I quoted for my bike, and I have the convenience of a monthly payment with all my other insurances with them.
You may get cheaper, however service does vary. AMI has a proven track record for fast efficient claims, and hot chicks to serve you, and we all know, its all about the hot chicks.....:Punk:.

I have been with State for a long time. less than $400 a year for a $9000.00 bike.excess is $1000. wrote the bike off a while back and no hassles whatsoever. we do have all our policies with them though . Still get my no claims discount buit have been with them for quite a while. Worth getting a quote.

Without reading past this post, no! Swann do still cover track days, but they do want advance notification of the event and to know who is running it. Both my wifes and my bike were covered recently when we attended a Hampton Downs ride day, was awesome fun and we were covered if anything happened, they've also proved to be biker friendly and prompt when it comes to dealing with claims, they are my recommendation and yes i did the rounds of all the otehrs mentioned here only to find they were cheaper than anyone else and through a nasty experience that they also pay out with no fuss or bother.

Well I had a run in with AMI many years ago, never ever again. Wouldn't poke them with a 10 foot pole.
Had 3 or 4 bikes insured with State over a 10 year period never had a claim, brought a new bike 5 years ago and State wanted $1600, Vero wanted 900 and John Baker wanted $850.
I got knocked off a short while ago and the Harley was collected and fixed in a week, so good on John Baker. I have a 2nd vintage bike insured as part of the primary policy and the cost is $90, Classic insurance wanted $350. So far John Baker have exceeded my expectations. Both Vero and Golightly come highly recommended.

I was with kiwibike for about 3 - 4 years. They were always pretty good to deal with. If you really need to sort something out with them I would suggest you ask for Dave. The other guys there are ok but Dave is the business if you have problems or need an answer.
Saying that i have just changed to NAC as they were a lot cheaper. I was 100% honest with my policy and they DO COVER TRACK DAYS.
The price difference was to much to ignore.

One thing to remember (as it seems some are confusing it) is that Kiwibike is not an insurer. They are brokers/agents (or something) and arrange your insurance with an insurer. ie, I deal with Kiwibike, but the actual insurance is Swann, their policy, but my payment goes to Kiwibike.
I know they use Swann, Star, and a few others, depending on which has the most suitable deal for you, and so on.

[QUOTE=nallac;1129826474]$50 for a track day coverage isn't really bad at all considering the amount of damage you could do to a bike in a high speed off at a track day.... i'd rather be covered than not.
Tell me about it, I layed down a three week old Ducati 1198S at Mondello Park (ireland) and the insurance came good for the 11,000.00 euro bill...ouch.
Can anyone advise of cheap (fully comp) insurance for a high end bike, as the online quote from Swann was between 2500.00 and 4600.00 - full licence and over 30
Cheers
