Howdy all, first post, making public knowledge of my unhealthy addiction to adventure riding. A 250 doesn’t have me breaking speed records, but serves me well and takes me many places. Combining fly fishing or hunting with adventure riding is me to a tee, looking forward to catching up with some likeminded riders so will be keeping an eye out for upcoming rides to meet some other addicts. Welcome Mate! That looks like a well set up machine. There are quite a few Canterbury riders on here so it probably won't be long before someone plans another group ride in your area.

Cheers
Clint

Welcome ADVGD.

Being on a 250 can make the big guys jealous when you are whipping up some really slippery clay track, but it's always a bugger when they blast past you on the seal on the way home. My adventure weapon up until this year was a TT250R and I used to watch the DR650s and KLRs disappear into the distance and all I could think as I choked on their exhaust fumes was: "They'll be at home in front of the fire eating dinner before I even get back to the city limits!" But when the going got tough....

Hope to see you on the next Canterbury ride. Nice setup BTW. No bash plate? Or am I just blind.

Yep, a 250 can be a little frustrating in a head wind or riding with others on the likes of RMX450 etc as I have done, but in the tricky stuff, or when I'm about to have a spill, I do love the fact it is lightweight and easy to pull in line.

Sharp eyes.. awaiting B&B bash plate freighting instructions at the mo.

Welcome,be nice to have some smaller bikes on our rides again.Pevs (haven't seen him in ages) used to turn up on his DR200 or was it also a 250? and do everything except cruise at 100km/h comfortably

Howdy all,Welcome... nice choice in machine. Had one myself for a few years, although never used it fully laden.

No bash plate?Std they have an alloy skid plate between the frame rails, but the rails themselves are prone to damage.

Hi Warewolf, cheers mate. Yeah the std plate is quite lightweight, the B&B products seem to have a good rep so I'll give one of those a nudge

Nice, looking at last Sundays ride pics I saw a bunch of 500cc+ bikes, quite looking forward to the challenge of keeping up on the trails!

Yeah, that was the bling height adjustable DR250. Not that it worked very well, but...
Pevs has since sold that bike, and AFAIK just has the VFR800 now. Haven't seen him since he came over to the Greymouth street races with us last Labour Weekend.

Good call, B & B plates are the biz. Lots of them amongst this lot.

The "smallest" bike there was a KTM 525,but don't be put off by that.
The only thing I couldn't stress more is,good tyres..The knobblier the better. As sunday showed, once it got muddy, the more road biased tyres weren't too good.

That's a shame,as he was always great value on the rides we did together.

That’s good to hear, I used to race MX and going flat out was the only thing my throttle knew, but now being 32 and a little wiser (self-proclaimed evaluation of course) I am more aware that I cannot afford time off work for broken bones etc. I’ve slowed down a lot and just enjoy getting away out into the remote places at a more relaxed pace. I may finish last in a ride, but I finish in 1 piece

Have a good weekend all, I'm off to pick up bike from Sportzone at 12 with some newly installed heated bars, then packing up the bike and off to the high country Fri/Sat/Sun for some camping/flyfishing/riding. The weather looks like it will make things interesting
