I'm Marie. New to this site but not to bikes, but am legally allowed to ride one now. Never bothered to have a licence before when in the countryside. Was told by my partners to get a hobby so this is it. I thought winding them up was a hobby but them's the breaks. Mostly here to look for advice to get thorugh my legal requirements faster if there is such a way????

hi welcome to the forum :) Take a defensive riding course to shorten the time to get your full licence.

...or continue doing whatever you were doing before you were legally allowed to ride...

Dirt bikes growing up. Now this is a serious question and requires a serious answer. Is that even possible on this site? LOL I want to go for a smaller rated bike, I'm not comfortable/confident with the 250 so what would you recommend as a better starter for road biking?

What about a road legal dirt bike or motard style for familiarity, considering your not new to them?

Welcome! :sunny:
What is it about your 250 that isn't working for you? Are you looking for something that is physically smaller, or something with a bit less power (or more gentle power delivery)?
As has been suggested, since you have been riding dirt bikes before, a dual purpose bike might be a bit more familiar, and give you more confidence. And air cooled single cylinder 250's have a pretty predictable power delivery, so things don't get too out of hand. Unless you want them to :innocent:

Funny how you have come back down to earth now.....good for you.

People will give me shit for this - but GN125 was the best learner bike I have ridden. It quite easily gets over 100kph - very good simple handling, and you can drop it and nothing happens.

However if you want another sports bike - how about an RG150?

Taught a couple of mates, They seem to quite like my FXR150. Very easy to ride small, light & nimble.

Don't worry I have no interest in selling it. Just putting it out there as a bike to consider given requirements stated.

Why - because that means they've left the kitchen.
Get a grip young fella......women have been riding bikes since before you were even born and I seen a pic today that even a bear can do what you do...infact the bear was doing it better!

Best you don your apron and get back to the kitchen.

If a woman is on a bike, you should shorten the chain around her ankle

No, I dont'. Please tell me! I know that physically some men may be somewhat stronger but other than that I've not seen much in my life to suggest that woman are inferior or indeed that men are stronger! Infact, quite the opposite! Not many 'real' men in the world today.

why buy when you can hire?

Gibbo89
12th August 2010, 20:58
as mentioned, the fxr150 could be a good bet. but it depends what you don't like about the fzr you own.

the one thing the fzr has going for it is that once you get used to the bike, it will last well over the licensing period and not get boring too quick.

food for thought?! :scooter:

cheap as chips 1980's Honda 250 single road bike like this:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Classic-vintage/auction-308650276.htm

The engine is from the dirt bike so familiar characteristics, simple, very light and once you have confidence up easy to sell. Cooler than a GN, great fun, and at least you are learning road bike handling. Well that's my pence worth...
