View Full Version : Fxr 150 not revving out properly

Hi guys,

Got an Fxr150 and it sounds stupid but it won't rev out to redline properly. When I first got it I thought it was slow but as it was the first little bike I'd ridden in a while so I thought that was how it was meant to be. It revs to about 7/8 fine then slowly makes it way to redline in the first 4 gears when you get to motorway speeds doesn't rev past this and about 100 km/h is max speed.

Then one day the bike just starts reving way harder and faster out of nowhere??? I was thinking awesome :Punk: but now has gone back to normal after it was left for a few days while I was in Wellington.

I took the carb off thinking it could just need a clean but wasn't that bad. While I was working on the carb though I tried moving the slide up and down. So finally here is my question....

How easy should the slide go up and down? In my carb it is harder to move the slide initially then is much easier after that. Could the slide not be moving and that explain the reason for the bike not working properly, then working great, then not?

Any thoughts on the matter would be great.

Torn carb membranes are quite common on these (I've got two dead carbs in the garage) Take the top off and have a look, just be bloody careful putting it back together. Standard bucket mod is to whack a GN carb and a pod filter in there, makes quite a difference.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at it tomorrow. So next question is if the diaphram is stuffed any idea how much a new one costs or just get a new carb???

Oh and it's a CV carb where the slide is moved by vacuum

Both FXRs I've bought have had shot carb membranes, in both cases have bought GN carbs off TM, bit of a lottery though, one I had to patch the membrane up with silicone since it was a little shot as well. I think the second hand carb route is cheaper than getting a new membrane.
Main reason I went down that road is for perfomance gains with our FXRs both being buckets, not road legal.

I did know... was a while back now, think they charged me round 60$ for that small piece of rubber? but chances are you can get it cheaper?

But thanks a lot guys solved that problem tune in next time for the next stupid fxr problem.....

There is a suposedly good FXR carb with pod filter on TM for $25. In Christchurch I think.
