Hey guys,
Flyinggirl and i are looking for our first bikes.
i have been looking at GSX 250's and her at CBR 250's

we have a budget of around $1500 - $2000 each, but obviously cheeper is better for us.

if you have one of these bikes or something similar, just let us know and maybe we can save you some listing fees for trademe.

Good time to buy. I will keep an eye open and let you know if I see anything suitable. I had about the same budget when buying my bike. So crazy when you see how many big bikes there are in that price bracket while all the 250s lurk around $4k plus. At least you know that when you sell it in 6 months or a year you should get about the same amount back. Happy huntin'

really? i couldnt find 1 that wasnt older than 25 years at that price range, for that price range if you have any mechanical know how finding a slightly damaged one and repairing it would be your best bet

penty on trademe at that price.Im going with vindy500 here. I don't see any. A good inline 4 250 will set you back at least $3500 on trademe.

A half decent twin might scrape in under $2000.

Heres a bike better than the GSX 250 (unless you meant GSXR250).

In fact heres two so you can have matching bikes!

this is what i have been considering http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=308369321$1500 is the start price not reserve. Mostly likely looking at $2000 or more.

The GSX 250 is the least sporting of the inline 4s. Also pretty heavy. Its dry weight is more than most 250's wet weight. Also 70,000 k's is considered high by a few people around here. Doesn't worry me seen as my bike has done the same but best to take a good look at high km bikes.

Too be honest i think the best buy currently on trademe (although just outside your budget) is http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports/auction-309043051.htm
Obviously dependant on getting checked out and getting a WOF.
But hey theres no rush plenty of new 250s on trademe every day!

why 250?? fxr 150's go cheap

advice from a few friends was that we will outgroow and want more than a 150 can deliver well before the time we go for our 6F tests.
also we will be spending quite a bit of time on the open road
a 250 is safe enough to learn on and scary enough when you push it

then how about a modern 150 will be a hell of a lot cheaper to maintain then a worn out old 250

you should be able to get a gsx around the 2k mark but for a cbr in any sort of decent condition with reasonable ks its not gonna go for under 2.5 unless your bloody lucky. from what i have seen from scouring tm daily :P
