Or to be more pc about it....Women who rides Motorcycles.
An observation while reading Bike Mags is that, all articles about new bikes are written from a male point of view. Are women not considered able enough to get a mention when it comes summing up a bikes performance?

For example, the ZX14 is looked upon as being suited for a 'bigger bloke'.
Why not a bigger female?
It seems a rather sexist view to me.
Alot of female bikers ride high performance bikes, its not an exclusive male thing by any means.

So come on Bike Mag people, even out the gender gap a tad please.

yeah they don't consider racing sidecar passengers to be human either, they only list the riders in piccies and results. Wonder if any of their staff have the nads to even sit on one let alone compete?

We shall continue to ride our high performance bikes, enjoying the attitudes of forward-thinking blokes like you, and the positive attentions of the men riding behind us as we re-adjust our positions on our seats :shifty: We'll just ignore the plonkers who write the magazines and buy their bikes anyway, enjoying the fact that our "made-for-smaller-blokes" sprotsbikes fit us like a glove, whilst laughing at those poor buggers taller than 6' hunch down on their go-fast machines :D

Women who ride motorbikes tend to be strong/self assured enough to not need to be pandered to every step of the way in what is naturally a male dominted past time.
Personally I couldn't give a rats arse whether an article about a new bike was written from a male or female perspective - as long as the female perspective doesn't have any gag-in-my-helmet type comments such as "has just enough under seat storage for your lippy"

I've seen plenty of pictures of women on bikes in the magazines.

For example the lady below - I can tell that she is a real lady as she is sitting side saddle.

From personal experience, there does seem to be plenty of recognition and support for us girl on bikes out there. I have been very surprised to find this along the way, as it just wasn't an expectation of mine, and I was O.K with that. Whilst our numbers don't quite match up to male riders, an ever increasing number of girls get going in the biking world and are doing bloody well - it's simply awesome to see.

I have attended some women only training days too, that cater for women who would like to gain some skills in a slightly different environment from what they may or may not be used to. Great days indeed, lead by Karel Parvich who has had a lot of first hand experience being in the minority on many occasions.

The magazines take on things may just be a little behind - it seems to be a fast evolving scene for the girls, and I'm sure they will catch up soon enough with a change of tone. Actually, I believe it was last month or the month before that Kiwi Rider had a 3 pages spread on Karels training for women, and it was great to see! Even got a glimpse of the Keeway on the track which made me laugh!

Well done! Great attitude!
Ya don't see any mention of men in the local sewing circles or the need for a mention whats more.
There will always be a small amount of male, female dominance in some parts of our lives.
If your a girl and ride a bike, just go out and enjoy the thing and lets not get all PC about it. Nobody really gives a shite on the male side of things to be fair.

The local bike shop here have asked my opinion on the tyres I use, and have used. As they feel it is important to know what a female thinks of them, especially with a similar riding style with the men in this region.

They have also thought it would be good to have a female work in their shop too - so guess times are a changing a little with attitudes toward us.

But I think I have seen somewhere, that a lady is test riding bikes for some magazine, just not sure which one - might be over the ditch

Why would women need different advice?

I don't see why having from a chics perspective is going to change what is written, I mean I understand that some are a bit short for some bikes, but so are some dudes.
I wouldn't take advice from an article written by a girl more seriously than I would a guy, they are both equal to me.

I don't feel the need to be treated like something special (not when it comes to bikes anyway) I'd rather be just another rider who loves bikes and riding and racing.

More seriously... as with any career, sport, you automatically refer to the person as the default sex, ie, netball, I'm sure there is a lot of annoyed little pansy males out there playing netball, who wish someone would say "him" ...

Ok... actually seriously (I'm like a bird with shiny objects)... meh. Shops that ignore females do it to their detriment. A dollar is a dollar, you miss out, someone else gets it. Ladies, if you don't like a shop, don't shop there. Magazines... I would find it very annoying if everything had to be him/her, great bike for large blokes/girls... minor details. Articles for me are about how they handle, problems, issues. No bearing on gender.

Nearly three years ago I created the Heels On Wheels column in Motorcycle Trader because I found that there was nothing representing females in New Zealand's motorcycle media.

I have the opportunity to test ride any of the press bikes that our magazine receives and have ridden a wide variety of bikes giving my review in some of the test articles (including dirt bikes) in order to encourage more ladies and cover off any key aspects that would or would not appeal to the female rider.

Eventually the industry will have more females involved in media and the female rider mentioned in articles, but until the readership surveys show that a larger number of females are reading motorcycle magazines within New Zealand then it will take some time.

I think that statistics would probably show that there are alot more ladies reading these magazines than they believe. I used to buy them and always read them when I can, and I know a number of other women who always buy them too. Mostly we buy them for us and our man to read.

So true LMT, it doesn't bother me the lack of information directed specifically at women riders. I just read articles/ads etc. that interest me either way.

However, I dooooooo have to say that when I ride to work I wear makeup (hair looks like a rats nest but that's another matter) so I'd be quite happy having "just enough storage for my lippy" hahahahaha. Tend to keep the ever handy lip moisturiser in my jacket pocket though rahter than under my seat......

How the hell can it be any different from a womans perspective. A bike is a bike isn't it and the riders that i know, hop on one leg at a time, the same as woman. Maybe the apparrel is different and i know i don't wear makeup, but from there on it's a free for all.
