1999 Kawasaki ZX6-R for sale, or swap for pretty much anything (esp motards and 250s)

Hey all, up for sale or preferably swap is my 1999 ZX6R.

It is in spectacular condition, with a fantastic history of ownership. Every owner (for the last 30000kms at least) has loved it and treated it with nothing but care. It has recently had valve clearances and full service done (58k) and I have changed oil and filter in the last week. It has a Micron exhaust on it that sounds absolutely nuts at all revs. Most who have owned one of the carb'd inline four 600s and 750s will no doubt tell you that these bikes are incredibly vocal, with whining roaring and screaming all part of its range.

This is not a full description by any means, more info and photos on the way.

Now as I have said, I am selling this bike to buy another bike, so am especially keen on trades for what have you. I will consider anything, and would prefer motards (DRZ400, XR650 or whatever else) or 250 2 strokes (RGV, NSR, TDR...). That is NOT to say that I will pass on anything else, including 4 stroke 250s. Just try me :yes:

And any questions just ask. I should also mention that the handsome young devil pictured does not come with the bike. Unless you are an attractive, rich woman. In which case he does.

No worries. The reason I'm interested in 250s as well, (particularly 2 stroke 250s) is that I believe they are the best way to learn how to ride quickly and safely. I would have kept my old RGV250 had I not written it off, and at the time was presented with a good opportunity to get a 600, the one I have now. I have no need for the power and weight of a 600. I cannot ride it to its full potential, or anywhere near half its potential, and I cannot see the extra power or weight as doing anything positive for my riding. Rather, I feel that it adds more to the riding equation than I need.

I am not a fast or good rider. I want to improve that, and light, fun bikes like 250s are perfect for improving that situation. I think too many people underestimate 250s and write them off as beginner bikes from the start. They feel that a 600 is more appropriate for their abilities as soon as they pass the, quite frankly, piss easy test to get a full licence. The reality is that a lot of these people could use more time on a 250 before moving up. I feel like I'm one of these people. Of course a number of people will genuinely have their abilities developed past the ability of their 250, and these people I would not judge for moving up.

I have a few other reasons for liking 250s as well. What other vehicle can you get that can rev past 18,000rpm? I like the design and styling of a lot of 250s. I also have the horn for 2 strokes, which IMO are the pinnacle of bike development. They are so modifiable, there's so much to play with and tune and buy for them. They are fantastic.

Sorry that wasn't very well put together. There are all sorts of reasons I love different 250s. Couldn't list them all coherently if I was given a week.

Andrew you know you want a 400. Same/better handling as a 250 with the power of the 2t 250s. If you didnt like the RVF try a CBR400, peakier power delivery than the v4 more like a 2t. Waaay more usable than the 250s and physically bigger for your lanky ass legs. Im pretty sure the weights are very similar too

Thanks for the kind words guys. It seems my view on the matter gets more weird looks than appreciative words from people I share it with... but whatever. I'm sure the right thing will come along in time, plus I'm staying away from TradeMe for as long as I can so I can avoid retarded questions and offers.

I would definitely consider a 400 if the right one came along. The reason I made a point of stating 250s was so that any current 250 owners who wanted to move up to a 600 (and there are a lot of them) wouldn't be put off asking about a trade. As I said, I will consider a trade to absolutely anything, including cruisers and classic bikes. The more interesting and different the better though. I think I would prefer a VFR400 to a CBR400 though (I do like the engine note and power delivery), plus I'd love to reride the RVF now that I've had some more experience on something with a wider tank. The RG and RGV both had such narrow tanks, that everything (esp Hondas) felt incredibly weird and uncomfortable to ride on. However when I rode Tom's NSR after some time on the ninja it felt a lot more comfortable and was a lot of fun. I was considering buying a ratty old MC21SE that I went to view as a third bike but ended up buying a car. I think I made the right choice though; now I can go mad boosting.

Swap it with Tom... reastically they're worth about the same, but if he needs more coin quickly, he'll have an easier time selling this (commoners bikes) than that (horn 2 stroke goodness which is what you're after anyway!).

Nah I don't think that's really a possibility. And to be honest it would be weird owning it anyway. I'm not sure why, since the ninja came from another good friend, but somehow it's just different.

I no longer believe in ATGATT, I may have once, but I often don't bother any more. Although my around town riding has decreased dramatically of recent, so I don't really get the chance to ride in them anyway. Meh. That's probably a good thing.

I know, I was referring to il4 250 4 strokes. I rode to Whakatane from Christchurch last year on my friend's CBR250, and despite it being an incredible adventure all the same, I really enjoyed riding the bike. Plus when I was first looking at motorcycles, my dream bike was a ZXR250 in blue, white and green, but I couldn't afford it at the time. I still think they look absolutely sex, and would own one in a flash.

And you can't get past the noise they make. I remember hitting the fuel cut (rev limiter) on the CBR while overtaking a car on the Rimutakas. It was at that point of my trip on that particular stretch of road that I thought, "Whoah, hey. Road not race track." And proceeded to cane it up and down the rest of them... :whistle:

I think if you knocked the price down quite considerably it would make an excellent project or fun track bike, but yeah I would only buy a bike that needed recompliance if I already had a solid main bike.

But as you said, looks bloody brilliant.

also has bigger carbys (cbr600rr tuned and balenced) aftermarket trumpets, bigger fuel pump and best of all only 20,000 km. ;););)

If I sell it, not swap it, I will buy a motard with the proceeds. Not really after a CBR400 anyway to be honest, they just don't really appeal to me as bikes. Also did you mean the carbs are from an F model? Because the 600RRs were introduced injected after they followed the 600F4i.
And if I get something with vtec it will be an Integra Type R. Thanks anyway though.

im not to shore about the carbs. im going off the previous owners word and what the shop has told me that did the work. good luck although.
P.S dont but a Integra, Vtec in them things is all wank factor and not actely go fast bits
