Planning to go anywhere in Auckland that weekend.....dont bother :shit:

On the weekend of 4th and 5th September we will be closing the southbound carriageway of SH1 in the vicinity of the Newmarket viaduct to carry out the necessary works to enable us to open the new southbound bridge by Monday 6th September. To avoid major disruption on the surrounding arterial road network it is essential to avoid driving anywhere in Auckland during the weekend unless absolutely essential.

Due to the enormous task of getting our message across to the whole of Auckland and the surrounding areas, we are requesting that everyone forward this HTML email to as many people as possible.

I ask you to forward this email to any schools, sports clubs, etc in order to get our message across.

Your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your assistance

Yeah, I got one of those emails from my Head of dept at one of my schools and I was thinking "what the...???" but then realised its probably quite a good way of getting info like that out to the general public.

I wondered if this was a really brilliant hoax for a moment... but it seems not:

I doubt any haoxers would be sufficiently skilled, bothered and organised to hack the official website as well, so I'm taking it as a great day to have a ride North!

This is no hoax:shit::shit: I work for one of the design firms and this is the best way.

80,000 vehicles are going to have to find another way, and don't bother shopping in Newmarket

Cheers

We have heaps of photo's but not sure of video, they made a doco for staff when we finished the northern gateway toll road and I'm sure they'll do the same for Newmarket. I'll ask the guy's at work if we have anything. Just did a search on youtube and found this

There is meant to be a concert, a netball game and several other events happening that weekend. Getting out of dodge city would be a great plan.

I wonder how they will demolish the existing section?

Reverse of the new bridge, they are going to cut the bridge up into sections then lower them down to be recycled. This is the first time this has ever been tried so it's going to be intresting.

cheers

All I have to say is neener neener neener.............. Oh wait, all it takes is one minor accident in Wellington and the traffic grinds to a halt. I'd say a fine weekend for you Auckland riders to head outa town.

"Road construction & Repairs - Current practises that are a problem for motorcyclists (e.g. Pea gravel, Metal blanking plates - Utility companies putting metal blanking plates on these are a safety concern as if they are down for a period of time they start to move and become dangerous when on a motorcycle. What are the standards they are to adhere to who checks?"

The Code of Practice for Working in the Road, Part 6.4.2.11 requires the following. Whilst we endeavour to audit as many sites as possible, resources do not allow us to do so. Can I suggest that any sites that are of concern are reported via the Call Centre phone 379 2020 request for service process and given a "Critical" priority. We will audit within 4 working hours.

6.4.2.1 Use of Temporary Steel Plates during Construction

Where temporary steel plates exist in the carriageway an ‘UNEVEN SURFACE’ supplementary plate and a separate ‘SLIPPERY SURFACE’ (TW-4) warning sign/s must be displayed to warn traffic. Permanent resurfacing is required within 7 days of a temporary seal being placed, unless as otherwise agreed, by the RCA.
Steel plates may be used in carriageways provided they are skid resistant, secured, and cushioned with rubber matting to prevent rocking, moving or noise. They must be of sufficient strength and quality to support imposed traffic loading.
Should steel plates be used "uneven surface" road works signs and "slippery surface"(TW-17) warning sign/s must be displayed to warn traffic of the potential hazards.
When steel plates are used, a ramp with hotmix must be formed and filleted to ensure safe pedestrian and vehicular access. The ramps must be adequately secured to the surface and maintained for the duration of the work.
Temporary road markings and all other necessary traffic measures must be in place to ensure that hazards are eliminated and parking restrictions are maintained.
