Good Riddance! It was a bitch having to manually set up all the paths and things out at police so it would be compatible with the old wanganui system.

The building that housed it is amazing -- rounded window sills to resist grappling hooks, the whole nine yards! Today that computer could fit in a cupboard.

No, they never said that. What they said was that after 10 years the offence information (with LOTS of exceptions) wouldn't be released to enquirers (eg employers) . It stays on your record forever.

Erm, how does one find out if one has a record? I have a.... freind.... who was assured that he wouldn't have a record after an... incident. He would like to check.

Go to your local court, they have a form you can fill out for disclosure of any previous convictions. It will only sho actual convictions though (court records), not any other police files where he / she may have been a suspect but wasn't charged because of lack of evidence etc.
