Update 29/8
Who is doing the jet boat trip to the Bridge to Nowhere?

We need to book the boat(s) so can you please PM me if you want to do this. We do need money up front and when I have your PM I will reply with my bank account details for you to deposit your $110.00.

Once you have deposited it PM me again and I will confirm with you that I have your money.

I will also put a list on here of the confirmed boaties!

I have booked 1 bed at the Forrestal Lodge, and inquired about a bed at the top10 in Whanganui.

I do not want to do the jetboat aspect of this ride, my bike gets jealous when I use other means of transport.

Now I just need my bike fixed... One thing at a time eh!

That looks like fun
18th August 2010, 03:40
When you book at Forrestal mention you are on the Kiwi Biker ride as they are doing a bulk price for us

.chris
18th August 2010, 09:31
I heard back from Wanganui top 10, they say

We are very happy to book units individually, but we do not book people with
each other in units (like a back packers) - therefor you can book your own
unit or a unit on behalf of a number of people staying in the unit.

edit.
I am now sorted for accommodation for both nights.

Afternoon all. Just been contacted by Forrestal House. Apparently they have had some bookings come through from some site called "holiday guide" As they are doing a special rate for us they need to differentiate who is in our group and other fellas.:shifty: So when you book if you do it by email go via there website http://www.forrestal.co.nz/ or if you phone state you are with the KB ride or mention my name (Wat is Colin by the way but now I have to kill you all Damn )
As you were :wari:

I'm tempted to make the trek north again for this one, I reeealy liked little bit of naki gravel I did :Punk:I'm not clever enough to make a google map but we start at Inglemud, and head towards Whanga. Those that want to do the Whanga Rd will split off and the rest of us will carry on via Makahu to the Bridge to Somewhere where we will rejoin with the others. The backtrack to Makahu and go via Puniwakau to Stratford for gas and lunch. After lunch head inland and meander south rejoining SH3 (unavoidable) round Hawera and go south to Waverly. If we have time there is an optional loop inland of Waverly and then continue to Kaiiwi, turning inland and riding an awesome gravel road into the back of W_anganui. The next day is a run up the Wanganui river rd to Pipariki, where for those who want can take the Jet boat ride to the Bridge to Nowhere (which as the crow/magpie flies is only about 15km from the Bridge to Somewhere)

Not sure why that is as other people have been registering. Can you try again please?

And no I am paying for your weekend - good try though (By the way it was a good win by Taranaki over Waikato last weekend!!!!)

I'm reluctant to hold my hand up as every time I commit to a ride lately something goes shitfaced and stops me going but I am intending to come - but I won't do the jet boat bit.

Old Whanga rd should be good and sloppy - woo aah :Punk:

As an added bonus, think about where the Jet-boat ride starts and the bike ride ends :shifty: Pipiriki. For those heading home in a northerly direction .................... hmmmm fishing, fishing,
42nd, Opotiki north road :shifty:
Life is full of opportunities

I did a quick route home from wanganui via Pipiriki on mapsource for my trip home to waiuku (not doing the boat thing) and it came to 550kms 10hours 36 mins!! Might have to trim some of the stuff closer to home to get time down a little. Or I'll just keep it like that, I could do that no problems and almost on one tank too :).........

Edit: will do 2 or three routes and load them to the Zumo 220 and then take my pic on the day Depending on weather/energy/planets in allignment

I am sort of doing the same, but maybe adding another day or 2 to the trip and heading home via Waikaremoana/East Cape. It will depend on the weather and what work I have on around that time.

If I am as quiet as I hope to be I might even add a couple more days to that ride and see what the Welly/Wairarapa boys are up to.

As far as getting down to Inglewood, I think I will head down friday AM via the coast (Raglan,Kawhia,Marokopa, Awakino).

Me n Kanny will be staying at some friends in Wanga's, so the non onsuite cabin, with a double bed and a set of bunks will be available if somebody wants to put their hand up for it.
It's $63, so three blokes can sleep for about $10 each.
If nobody calls "Dibs" on it, I will call the top10 and hand it in. Not sure how booked up they are, but it could be handy.
Wens next week is hand in time, other wise I'll have to pay for it.

"Ding ding. I want a good clean scrap for it, and no biting. Return to your corners, and come out fighting".:girlfight:

Ian, me Karen are heading south on Fri too, (plus Dino if I have my way). Hook up times will be worked out I'm sure. Me n K will be pootling, so you need to talk Dino into going for a hoon.

Just wondering if you guys were considering doing the Meremere Track as part of this ride?

I found this one on my way south earlier in the year.

Rough route of where it is / goes (attached), Apparently you can go a bit further along than I went, I got scared off by the private property signs, which are to be ignored (accoriding to the couple of mx riders I met along the way). It follows a pylon access track.
It is seasonally closed (closed over winter, but for some reason I think I remember it opens september, but it may be end of sept, I am not sure).
It would not be big bike friendly, I did it middle of summer and it was pretty damn mucky and wet then, could be pretty hard this time of year (photo 2 was before it got interesting).

Even when I went through (with a fresh tkc80 on the rear) the clay sections were a bit of fun fully luggaged.

Just curious. I came over on the Kaitaki ( the big one) Does 35-40 kmh according to my GPS :). The Kaitaki has proper motorcycle wheel chocks for the bikes and the tie downs seemed in ok condition but I used my own any way. Can't remember if I've been on the Aratere. is the plan to head in from the pub to the bridge and then north through Autohia Station?

I might just head up on Sat morning (depending on the usual life stuff that gets in the way)

I presume that there is no reasonably detailed route/itinerary anywhere? On Sat we be heading towards Whanga, the dirt bikers splitting off and heading PAST the pub down the Whanga rd and meeting the rest of us at the Bridge to Somewhere, then we head south to Stratford

Great weekend everyone, thanks all for turning up and making it so enjoyable. Great to see the new faces and also to catch up with people I have met before (Crisis I still haven't forgiven you including the Akrapovics when you sold your 990!). I hope you all got home safely.

Phil and Colin thanks for doing all of the route finding etc etc (note to self next time I get involved organising a ride don't try to sell and buy a house in the middle of it!) you did a fantastic job.

Ride home was good, I left Pipiriki before the rest of the team to come back to the Naki and by the sound of it I was lucky as I had light drizzle from Patea while the others got some rain.

And by the way, Wanganui SPCA has contacted me - something about a goat floating past the main town with a lifejacket on...

For those of you wanting pictures here are some of the ones this amateur took.

Great pics, has been over 28yrs since been to Aotuhia, theose days we walked from Mangeahu Rd(upper)passed walkway turnoff and usually took 2hour tramp.Used to be an old homestead about 15-30mins over bridge.

To see the road(graveled not papa)is amazing,we used to head to Aotuhia each long weekend, went there one labour weekend, crossed a stream(usually shallow, but that Saturday was up to waist)then over bridge to somewhere to old homestead. The Monday heading home stream was back to normal, showed how quick streams can rise and fall.

Is there a tree branch stuck under the span of the bridge(to somewhere),massive flood back in the '30s apparently.

Have a mate who I walked the Wanganui walkway track in 1979 as teenagers who has been to the Wanganui river each decade since.Must head out that way asap and next time in Stratford for sure, nice drive in car, don't think the bandit is best bike, maybe dads quad hmmm, idea coming up.

Hard to say, when I saw the power of those ones on the ride with us my middle leg started to shake:shutup:
I'm having a shitload of fun on this 620, another 500k day today only issue is you fill the tank up and then ride for bloody miles before stopping again, when I did stop I looked at my rear tyre and she was smoked, I was in the back of Raetihi on ruatiti road, awesome gravel rd a big hind jumped out in front of me and I thought shit weres me gun but it stood there and looked at me then I saw its ear:facepalm: oh well it was lucky.
I made it home over the Para para's awesome view up there then head wind all the way back, I dont know the 690 might be abit more exposed to the weather.
