It's been a bit quiet here on the political front of late. Fair enough, some might say, this is a biker site - but it has always been a biker site, and there was a good stream of entertaining argument before.

So what's up? You all bored? Busy riding in the rain? Gone soft?

And there's such a wealth of topics to choose from, too.

There's dodgy righty crooks:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10666624

Dunny's crazy income splitting fantasy:
http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PA1008/S00233/income-sharing-could-benefit-310000-families.htm

Struggling bennies:
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10666600

Never mind the nanny state, here's the police state:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/digital-living/4026464/Select-committee-backs-police-spycams
(Love to hear from the libertarians about that one...)

There's always that perennial favourite, climate change:
http://www.blog.thesietch.org/2010/08/16/flooding-in-pakistan/
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-08-10/russia-may-lose-15-000-lives-15-billion-of-economic-output-in-heat-wave.html
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4026553/Court-challenge-to-Niwa-stupid
etc etc

Or even some economic rantage:
http://market-ticker.org/archives/2582-More-Signs-Of-Trouble-In-The-Economy.html

Or closer to home, young workers getting their asses fired with no reason given:
http://fairness.org.nz/

So, c'mon.... have at it then. :innocent:

There's dodgy righty crooks: they're in it for the MONEY

Dunny's crazy income splitting fantasy: How can we give people free MONEY

Struggling bennies: they're in it for the MONEY

There's always that perennial favourite, climate change: they're in it for the MONEY

Or even some economic rantage: MONEY MONEY MONEY

Or closer to home, young workers getting their asses fired with no reason given: the value of MONEY v PEOPLE

So, c'mon.... have at it then. :innocent:

Pretty easy really, even for a thick prick like me :)

but this one: Never mind the nanny state, here's the police state: (http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/digital-living/4026464/Select-committee-backs-police-spycams) now this is dangerous, utterly scarey...

"Police should soon be able to install wireless cameras to spy on suspects in their homes after politicians signalled they will give new video surveillance laws the green light.

Police will be able to covertly film people for up to two months with a warrant, and three days without a warrant in "limited circumstances" under the controversial Search and Surveillance Bill, currently before the justice and electoral select committee. "

"All New Zealand citizens should be concerned police can potentially break into their house in the same way as a burglar and plant surveillance equipment and snoop on people ... and without any judicial oversight for three days.

That's a huge increase in state power and in this age I think it's draconian and excessive."

etc... bad bad people...

State control of everything! (especially the individual)

That's all just blatant socialism but wait, New Zealand "is" a socialist country!

The electorate at large should be happy now, there is very little individual freedom left to take from us!

MMP is serving the politicians well, it's all about "give and take" we give to them and they take from us, then they take a little more for themselves!

True. That too.

I was very disciplined and didn't say anything about oil depletion, either.

MONEY MONEY MONEY

...makes the world go round, apparently.

Moi? On your ignore list? Cut to the quick, I am.
Besides, isn't the ROI entertainment value rather than conversion rate? At least I hope so.

We've done all of this stuff before.

You are right. I do wonder though whether things go quieter when the Nats are doing rather more indefensible things like 90 day fire at will, pork board spycams, etc. Or worse, nothing in the face of an ugly recession.

I'm sure after Labour wins next year we'll be back to having something to complain about.

But perhaps it is unfair of me to accuse this fine community of such partisanship.

Or to troll so flagrantly. :done:

lol, it ain't a socialist country if all they crave is MONEY... socialists would do right by their fellow man wouldn't they? fuckin consumers and their gotta haves (me included)...

Unfortunately I have to disagree that there is next to nothing left to take... You have watched your freedoms disappear... I never knew most of those freedoms. The freedoms of my generation are very different. It would seem that the people of today value "traditional" rights and freedoms as next to non important because we have our FIX to maintain... we just need our console game, ticktes to the match, our movies, choice of clothing and so long as we have enough paper credits to buy our entertainment/toys, we will feel that we are living in a decent society because we're alright... pretty fuckin deluded but hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion :)

Would the political system make a difference to the quality of politician?

Interesting that you picked both the actions I could actually give the goverment some credit for...I can defend that until the prematurely-induced cows come home....

Or worse, nothing in the face of an ugly recession.

I'd also argue that "nothing" is exactly the right thing to be doing - given that Labour put us into recession a full six months before the Global Socialist Legislation Induced Financial Whatsit hit...there's not much any government can do that won't actually make things worse.

We could be doing more to cut the deficit we're carrying, but you lefties would whinge like buggery if they touched any of your sacred cows like WFF or state "assets".

I'm sure after Labour wins next year we'll be back to having something to complain about.

Yeah, like being sucked into a parallel dimension without warning for a start-off.

I'm not partisan, I'm looking for an actual right-wing party to vote for...

Aye, the Nats coulda staved off the recession WTF!!!

BULLSHIT... there's plenty EVERY government can do, but they WONT.

We could. We could ask for NZ debt to be written-off, ya know, like they did in Africa some years back :)... bet that would make a HUGE difference to the levels of service etc...

What, piss money up the wall a la USA, UK, Australia?...yeah I'll take the "nothing" thanks, I'm glad my boys won't be saddled with the debt that my neices and nephew in the UK are going be paying off.

True and why not? Who are we going to give "permission" to form a government next year?

We don't have a clue what that government make up will look like, let alone what it will behave like!

MMP is a mickey mouse government by lottery scheme where politicians loyalty is only to those in their final mix of temporary alliances!

We really have no say in who they are or what they do, our only concious contribution is to vote them "out"!

The Inuit say that the wolf keeps the caribou stronger.

I recently noted that many of the developmental disorders of the brain, like ADHT ADD AS whatever, are suffered by Europeans of white skin, rather than Chinese, Indians, Africans, Polynesians or South Americans etc.

I cant help but wonder if this means anything in particular or not, why whitey sometimes gets a brain developmental disorder, more so than blacky.

It's symptomatic of people with not enough to fully occupy themselves and who therefore obsess about trivia, like how their meat lived before it was lovingly hand-slaughtered by unionised labour earning more than the minimum wage, and whether their child's school should ban nuts in play lunches. Ask yourself why conditions like ADHD and ADD were undiagnosed 30 years ago.

the 3rd to last & last point on the poster aint really negative, less bureaucrats is a good thing, as for "climate change" being a skeptic is a good thing but calling him a one?. don't forget he's still pushing forward with taxing us for this religion.
