5.2L V12! Not as powerful as a modern Cayenne but back in the days, just phenominal!

I remember seeing one of these on Top Gear a few years ago.
They drove it around the test track and the handling was, to put it mildly, somewhat compromised.

Not really. They have been selling internationally for quite a bit less than the auction estimate.

agree.
However no matter how cheap to buy, you need to be very wealthy to maintain and run. This is an italian V12 made in the days when 1500 mile interim and 3000 mile full services were required. 8mpg would also sting a little.
But you need to be a little nuts to own such a bonkers car

Maybe but more people in Europe have driven a lambo tractor than a Lambo supercar. I've personally driven an R3 95 on my Cousins farm in Italy. I never even seen one till then.

Agreed, and besides Lamborghini sold the tractor side of the business to Same/ Deutz-Fahr back in the early 1970's. So whilst you can still buy a tractor badged Lamborghini it isn't actually made by them.
Mind you, Lamborghini is now owned by VAG and the current Murcielago LP670-4 SV will see the end of the original Lamborghini designed V12 (but what a magnificent end...) that has done service in virtually all their cars since 1963 in various forms and capacities.
The upcoming Murcielago replacement will have an all new Audi designed V12. I just hope they keep the magnificent soundtrack..... :D

Why is it, when designing 4x4's, they can't at least stop them looking like boxs?

You must be a Ferrari man then. And a titty man. You like "salmon" coloured shirts too don't ya
Only a Ferrari/Lambo man couldn't appreciate the curves of a Porsche. And if you were a booty man, there is no other car.
In saying that, pretty much all Porsche's look the same. Even from when they first started making them.

Does look cool for a car that made it's debut in the mid '60's though!

To elaborate: Drop dead gorgeous in every way. But it could do with a bit less aerodynamic LIFT and would benefit from two bags of cement attached to the front somewhere. The rest are just minor flaws.
I've been fortunate to have a play with a fair few cars of this sort as I was involved with a business that imported them from Switzerland, restored them and on-sold them. Them were the days. Having said that, I'm possibly a bit biased, because I am a Ferrari man at heart.

Here is a task for you guys.
Brag every bits about your relations and experience with exotic cars and try to make me kill myself of jealousy.
Here I'll start off: I drove a Porsche 911 before I turned 21 and it was fukn damn amazing. Experience to believe.

I translated and interpreted for that company and took my payment as time in their cars. The two cars I remember with the most fondness are the 275gtb/4 and the D-type. I'd give my left kidney and right ball for the 275.

My parents live in Parnell. About two years ago I was invited to meet a neighbour on the other side of the street.
He had a Ferrari Enzo in his basement garage. It was a beautiful car and I presume it is still there.

Went to the dealers and I politely asked, simple as that.

A good friend of mines godfather is Gavin Bain of Fazzaz in Christchurch, I've been over to his place in Goveners Bay and spend an afternoon going over his personal collection. Everything from the very last Porsche 356 through to his F40. When he noticed me taking more interest in his classic exotica he took from the large warehouse style building we were in to his climate controlled, polished wood floor 'true exotica' garage, where I got lay eyes and hands on a 1926 Bugatti F1 car, one of the two the factory ran that year. He had been fielding offers from Bugatti on a weekly basis to take the car back, offering him at the time cash plus a Bugatti EB110. He still has the F1 car.
Also I've been lucky enough to (illegally) drive a factory 1993 Porsche RSR race car. My employer at the time got punted off the track at the Wellington Waterfront race, the car got shipped back to Christchurch and at 22yrs old I was tasked with driving it around town until I could find a panel beater to repair it. Despite numerous offers of repairing it on time I just had to shop around for the best deal.
Otherwise I driven a smattering of normal Porsches, from a 1978 911SC through to a 996 Carrera. The next car on my shopping list will be an SC, I'd love a 73-76 model but they are increasing in price daily, whereas you can still pick up a tidy 78-80 SC for around 30k.
Still not had the chance to steer a Ferrari or Lambo myself, one day hopefully.

Hmmmm where to start.
79 911 (will see if I can dig out the photos) back when I was 17. Sounded awesome and raw. Not the fastest - but definitely got attention. friend of a friend.
96 RUF......dealership, and we asked pretty please.
Ferrari 350........got to park it at a party
Also for a period I was helping start and warm up the cars at Giltrap Prestige on the way in to Uni. Lambo's sounded SO FUCKING GOOD!
but the only one I have done the "Oh fuck me!" was actually a old 94 BMW 850i........first car I found that when you put the key in......everything moved. The seats got lower the faster you went (over 180). Was awesome.
But lately I hate to say it, but I have fallen for a Nissan.
Sitting in the new GTR at the speedshow was the first time I have EVER sat in a car.......and found everything was exactly where I wanted. Friend sat in it (he is slightly shorter) and everything was in the wrong place and he hated it.
So it seems the GTR was custom built for me.
DAMN YOU NISSAN!

I haven't been in the new GTR yet, but I've had plenty of experience behind the wheels of the R32, 33 and 34 models. The nicest example I have driven was a 650hp R34 in Japan. The owner was pointing wildly at the dash at one stage, I assumed I was going to fast so slowed down a bit (by this stage we were back in Nagoya). It was then explained to me I wasn't driving hard enough, and that the owner was pointing at the rev counter and telling me to take it to 9000rpm when accelerating. Of course I obliged, holding the steeriung wheel with my knee as I changed gear, the car kicking sideways. On the same trip to Japan I was picking up some go fast bits for a R32 GTR from a performance house, and got to spend a lot of time looking over their R32 drag car, capable of running high 7's at about 288km/h. Very impressive, and they were only to happy to show me everything they had done to the beast.
Also been a passenger in an R32 our car yard owned, pulling a 10s 1/4 down the back streets of Sydenham, that was an experience. Tunnel vision anyone?
Until it was written off by his ex-wife, my brother owned one of the orgina GTR's, a 1967 Nissan Prince Skyline GT. Very rare car, with the original engine found on a farm. Unfortunately now it is no more.
None of these cars however have I had the pleasure of calling mine, they were either friends cars or cars that the dealership I managed owned. With my left arm paralysed it's just not really practical for me to own a high performance manual car and really enjoy it. A Porsche SC I'll make the exception for, but that will nt be thrashed anyway.

I will always miss this car. Out of all the cars I have owned this is my favorite
I hope the new owner kept it in good nic. Was worth a bit of coin if it went back to japan.216886

Performance cars and performance bikes are not mutually exclusive, in fact they often go hand in hand. I appreciate performance, in anything, be it bikes, cars or aircraft.

I'll try and explain how I see it and what does it for me. In no particular order:
Bikes for the martial-arts-like concentration that's required. For the camaraderie. For the bang for buck performance. For the physicality. For ''When I'm rushing on my run, when i'm closing in on death, and you can't help me all you guys...''
60s italian cars for the nostalgia. For the smells of petrol, oil and old leather. For a strong coffee a large calvados and ten non-filter Gitanes for breakfast. For the girls that were whores in the bedroom only. For the times where you had to be a Driver before they sold you one.
Airplanes for the meticulous preflight every time. For the tranquility and desolation of 41000 feet and four in the morning. For watching everything all the time. For intercepting that localiser and looking like you've been doing it all your life. For when the glideslope needle comes alive.
I'm clearly having a tender moment here. Sorry for rambling.
