ok, Its late and im bored, got to thinking about how getting back into riding regularly changed my entire social life around, and I got to thinking about how i met alot of the people who are now staple elements in my life. So, heres the question, where did you meet your riding buddies?
99% of mine were thanks to another website, dedicated to south island riders, many of whom are local, or near enough by. The remaining few percent were at rallies or randomly on rides etc, where people see I ride, and come up and chat. so heres a poll, where'd you meet the MOST of your biker friends?

95% of my riding friends I've met have been through riding. The other 5% through here.

A friend of mine started riding and I decided to do so.

The other riding friends that I have, I met online or through mutual riding friends.

The only riding mate I had sold his bike, so now I fall into the 'no mates' group:bye:. Must get off my arse and join the Waikato laxed out riders one day.

Yeah, I'm 'Johnny-no-friends' too. Wouldn't mind trying to rectify that a little this summer though.

My mates are too pussy to ride a bike. They're scared they might get hurt.

In another lifetime and another country I belonged to a "club" and that gave me a bunch of riding mates.

In my 25+ years in NZ I have occasionally had a ride with someone. But very seldom. To me biking is a totally solitary experience and a justification to be alone. I don't ride to find mates. I ride because I want to ride and others just get in the way.

Especially seeing everyone rides at a different pace.

Weird..I don't have an option to tick. I try and get people to ride with me. All my regular riding buddies have ridden together since we were at school. XL 175's :Punk:

Sure I ride with organised bike shop and group rides but I never ride with any of these guys outside of that.

Never met anyone in the flesh from this site so haven't knowingly ridden with them. Could be an option though. Anyone here from Rotorua??

Especially seeing everyone rides at a different pace.

And I ride at different speed too depending on my moode. I also like to just turn off the main road to explore some road I have never been down. And to do that when with others is not possible.

Been riding since I was 15, since then a few of my good friends have taken to two wheelers in different "genres" if you will.

There's only a few people I would ride with regularly if I got the chance..

Count me as another Johnnie no mates. I know two people with bikes but I have never ridden with them.

I got some out of the blue PM on here from some one looking for bikers in our area. Went along the lines of we have a couple of ladies and do you want to come for a ride?

Why not thinks I. I ride like a slow ass nana on the SV but am sure I wont embarrass myself. Well bugger me if these people havent turned into the best friends I could ever wish to have.

Was making friends with fellow bikers since i was 16 or so. Still got most of them now except we all live further apart. Got the usual few that have remained really close and still ride together when we can.
Think you tend to hang on to the good mates forever....well for me anyway!

I just ride by myself. It's one of the only times I get to do stuff at my pace, in my own time. I go skiing with mates, but usually find myself on the mountain alone too - I'll ski with the kids (snow and water) but enjoy it more on my own.

What a sad thought!

I have made so many wonderful friends through our common love of riding that I would never have crossed pathes with otherwise, people who will stand by you and support you through thick and thin.
I also have friends spread across Europe who I rode with when they visited this lovely country of ours and likewise, some day I hope to ride with them in there own back yard.
AND I met my gorgeous man though bikes too

Yep agree! I could tick all the boxes!
Meet some through bikes, some through friends and found they had bikes and some of my friends bought a bike because they wanted a bit of what I loved. Then about 5 years ago Kiwibiker came along and I met a lot of my off road mates through here. 3 years without a going road bike and now I'm gonna do the street skills and Thursday rides and meet a whole lotta new friends. There's 15 of us going to the Coldkiwi none of them KB'ers. So there's no strict rule IMHO. Your fine on your own just following your front wheel like today I just went out and didn't want company just me and the bike doin our thing. But its still good to ride with guys you have met in all facets of life and have bikes in common. Now I just need a cute young pillion or riding buddy LOL!!! To sum up if you have a bike and your not a wanker you will always meet like minded people!

Little Miss, I think Genie was just being a bit of smart ass LOL!! I think what she means and she is right IMHO, some days you just need the power, the freedom and no one to think about but yourself and the road. I have found nothing in this life than can give you better quality yourself time than a big throbbing road bike some days its like heaven on wheels! LOL!!

No, really? :gob: I understand the sentiment exactly, I love disappearing for a ride on my R6 all by myself when everyone else is stuck working :P
However, I also very much enjoy the social aspect and the solid friendships I've built up through this shared passion, even if some of them are dodgy bitches :shifty:

I had no biker friends so went on a "biker ride", I wasnt told you had to be a "poser" and turn up in full moto GP riding gear, and stand around for an hour before the ride telling everyone how you are a GP GOD.Bugger that

I pretty much convinced all my buddies to get bikes and ride, now the group is around 20 with more hangers on the fringe.
I used to organize lisence test days for all the newbies lol. Bikers for life.

Vague arrangements to go riding with sort of relatives that ride bikes and their dodgy associates, and people I work with, and neighbors that happen to have bikes

So in terms of the poll, none (or all) of the above really.

I'll go out on a ride on a weekend, meet up with some people, ride along with them, and often never see them again.
It’s finding the time to cultivate good, lasting friendships that I find the hardest.
To have a network of likeminded people you can trust to be there for you.
True friends that you know would stick with you through thick and thin.
People you could spend a long weekend with and not get in each others space.
The truly genuine friend, one that you could pick up off the side of the road at 3am, with only the feeling of concern for their wellbeing, and not the imposition.
It’s a shame that most of the people I meet are such fuckwits. :p

It won't let me tick all of em !

Had to re-read it and yes it did read biker buddies so being the friendly sod i am, most i meet i could say i buddie up to lol

Some i ride with, i rode with 300 years ago. Some i met in the last 5 years since my last breading cycle. Others i have met through here and have ridden with and would be happy to ride with anytime.
But i think this summer is going to be a fun one, with a core group of like minded ppl that have a common interest and somewhere to ride to and leave from !
Most of the work is done and spring has sprung, can't wait till the the fun's begun !

Must find a radar mount !

I don't really have any biker mates. Other than the dude who sort of got me into riding, but I don't really ride with him that often 'cos he's sorta more into his car. Ride to Puhoi or Whanga with him one in a while though. I need to get out on more group rides. Hopefully the missus will be getting a bike soon so I wont have to take the car if she's coming anywhere too (only have restricted and not too keen on the fine if we get caught, plus the 250 aint that quick two up)
