J has other stuff she will be doing so I have a weekend free, a weekend I can plan for in advance so I'm going for a bit of a back to basics adventure on the Saturday in hope of getting Casualty and some others out n about.
I intend this to be a bit laid back, a cruise, more sit down than stand up so it should be suitable for novices and probably bikes with road bias tyres. Thinking of some Banks Peninsula Bays to Akaroa and maybe Flea Bay, or if the rivers are low Lees Valley may be an option.
Probably get going by 12noon after an early lunch (sometimes sleep ins are important too), will make more definite plans closer to the time.

I also have the next day free, that's Sunday 12th September, so may take the CRF for another play in the mud before it all drys up for summer in case anyone is interested in that too.

Give us an idea who's interested.
Cheers
TA.

update 1:
I'm thinking we'll go in the Akaroa direction on the 11th as The Lees Valley will still be a bit pot luck on the big river.

Making the meeting place at Moorhouse Ave Burger King car park at 11am and depart at 11:30am just before the roadies arrive for their weekly thing.
We'll go over Dyres, round thru Diamond Harbour, Purau, Port Levy, Pigeon Bay, Little Akaloa Bay, Okains Bay, Le Bons Bay, Akaroa, maybe Flea Bay if time allows.
Be getting dark by the time we get back if we do anymore but those wanting more could go back via Wainui, up Jubilee Rd, Bossu, Reynolds Valley Rd, Wairewa Pa rd, Western Valley Rd, back round thru Diamond Harbour etc.

Update 2
Here's a .GPX file for the GPS peps.
It's my intended route but will be subject to conditions/time on the day as to weather we get the whole thing done.
Right click, save as...
240kb - file here. (http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/9/8/208927//Plan for 11 Sept 2010-Update1.gpx)

34kb Compressed (zipped) gpx file here. (http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/9/8/208927//Plan for 11 Sept 2010-Update1.zip)
Lighthouse Rd is closed so Akaroa is as far as we'll go, not Flea Bay.

New arrival forces sale - bit cliché but thats life. Staying closer to home now so gonna get a regoed 450/525.

That's my playground :)
Nice scenery & gravel hill climbs.
Bossu, Jubilee and Pigeon bay to name a few. But I think the bridge on the Port Levy side might still be out.

Unfortunately the stars are out of alignment and I'm in Auck that weekend.
I'll keep an eye out for the next one tho. Would be keen to tag along sometime.

Thanks for organizing it.

He rides a KLR.

That'd be an overactive throttle hand, downhill and tailwind.

You think that (Robinsons bay stock track) you should try the Takamatua Stock track when it is wet. Slick clay with fist sized lumps of loose rock and some lumpy bedrock. Took Bro and I three hours to do 2km couple of winters back :sweatdrop

Cheers,

Transalper
10th September 2010, 17:32
Yep, just in the carpark there, Burger King/Countdown, Moorhouse Ave.
I just choose it as it's central and seems to work ok for the road riders who meet there every Saturday and during summer every Wednesday evening.
If you come along you won't be new to it any more. :niceone:

Food !!
I'm going to have a bit of Brunch before i leave home and may take a snack or maybe pack half a subway sandwich to have on the road.
Can't promise what shops will be open or what time we will hit Akaroa, though I'd expect fuel and food to be available there when we do arrive.

Updated GPS files stop at Akaroa.

Thanks again, Cheers Crim
I saw the DR650 shoot through at Duvauchelle so thought I would blast through to town behind it - my plan soon failed as I got stuck behind some slow traffic going up the hill :bye: so it was a solo ride - but road wasn't too bad - a good trip

hahaha she was a bit stroppy when she got split up from her calf.....either that or took exception to a motard infiltrating the adventure bike ranks. Being a good country boy it seemed natural to put the bike in the road, other 650 purists would have possibly shot me for being a dick!

Was a good move - I'd rather have a bent bike than a bent body! - felt a bit sorry for the bloke probably put him back an hour or two, hindsight a couple of us should have snuck through quietly and kept them from running down the hill when the rest of us come through.

Forgot whether or not you have much dirt experience and the TDM would probably have felt quite big on a few of the turns or steep loose bits, but I have had the CBR1000 up all the roads we took home (2-up on some of them too) and the TDM should manage the rest ok. Chunky tyres would have been an advantage a couple of times but not absolutely necessary by any means.
You'll just have to try and see so we can establish a base line for you.

So anyone have anywhere they are interested in or want to revisit that we can go check out in similar fashion? Maybe 3 or 4 weeks time? I'd like to go more often but don't want (or can't afford) to over do it, and then there's my partners weekend plans involving me to consider too.

There's many roads out there, seen quite a few, still lots I haven't.
I'm a bit used to just following Plug and/or cooneyr on their adventures, very good at going the extra mile with finding and sorting private land access from time to time too they were/are.

last year when we did the ride over to akaroa there was that challenge bit that a few of us went up - i wouldnt mind trying that again to see if i can make it without coming off this time. no idea where it was but would be good to include as an option if we go out that way again
