View Full Version : Nicknames for your bikes... I must be going crazy

Do have a Nickname for your bike?
An affectionate term maybe that endears the bike to yourself, or makes you feel more emotionally attached to what some would say is an inanimate object made of steel, plastic, and rubber.
Others get real emotionally attached to their steed as some do to a horse or dog , cat badger etc....... I don't know take your choice.
The point is that I have a nick name for my bike, and it makes me feel more attached to it in a funny sort of way. The wife thinks I'm crazy, she just aint a biker aye
I'm not telling what my bikes nickname is yet . I might get embarrassed or hassled.
I did call my old KDX200 "Kermit " not very original I know, but me and Kermit had alot of good times together. When the going got tough in rough one day I found myself talking to Kermit, saying something like 'come on Kermit you can do this boy, you can get us out of here" and Kermit responded with large' fart of a crackle' out of the exhaust and we both popped out of the swamp.
Made me feel good ...........I think Kermit was happy too. Just joking.

The K100 is Shirley

Do have a Nickname for your bike?.
Used to and still do but takes a while to find it if at all. I guess those first bikes were first loves with the freedom they gave but over yrs I became a little jaded. Now I might if one occurs after some time.
A beeemr I had many yrs ago and toured many many miles overseas on was Bumble - knwo idea why but I relied on that bike to not let me down so it deserved a name!

Haven't given the 2fiddy a name yet as we are just on an extended one night stand.
I do talk to her tho. After a good ride or after anything that pushed my capabilities and we both came out the other side in 1 piece.
"That a girl"

26th August 2010, 08:48
All this also would explain why I can not wreck a bike or sell her as parts. Each time one becomes part of the flock I see the potential and I want to get her on the road as she deserves it. I will then spend the time and the money needed to get her working. Often in a modified version that suits my taste.
Then when she goes out the gate for the last time with her new owner I can hear her saying: "Thanks for sorting me out." And then she is gone to her new home.
Remember a small dirt bike I sorted out and had some cool fun with riding on the beach. This guy was really keen on her and bought her. Then a few weeks later I did see her rolling frame for sale on TM. That hurt! Philistine!

My 650 Bandit is "The Dancer" 'cause when I got it my other bike was a 1990 BMW R100GS Paris Dakar which I called "The Beast", 'cause it was. Compared to the BMW the Bandit danced down the road.
My 1250 Bandit is "Red Wolf" .. 'cause it's red and a loping bike - runs like a wolf.

The little VFR doesn't have a name but it does have a gender, and oddly enough it's male.
Exiting a corner that seems to have gone well; 'Yeah BOY! Go team us!', friendly pat on the tank.
Wobbling out of a corner that has gone wrong: 'Sorry. Sorry. Sorry chap, I'll do better next time', gentle, appeasing rub of the tank.

The CR is "The Black" as in raging black stallion. Hell yeah!
The XB...dunno, haven't really got a nickname as such, must ask AJ since he is the one riding it LOL. I do talk about the XB as a 'he' and whenever he is parked next to the X1 I'm sure he sidles closer trying to get his leg over! Yep! The XB definately deserves a nickname, he is testosterone loaded!
The X1...aaaaaah, she is my 'baby' and thats what I call her. I walk past her in the garage and caress her. If I'm not taking her out then I actually apologise to her...and believe me she gets the hump if she doesn't get out every day LOL.

Though she's only a 250 learner, she's my first bike. So I did want a name for her.
My wife suggested Gloria, as in G-L-O-R-I-A by Them (OK, by Van Morrison if you don't know Them). She said suited her, hanging out with an old rocker.
I do say, "I'm taking Gloria out", and I do talk to her, pat her tank after a good ride or if we haven't been out for a day or so.

I always name them. dunno why. dont name cars, fuck 'em!. Last one was scarlet. I now have a Blue R1, and havent thought of a suitable name yet though.
I have always felt that bikes are a very personal item though. you are more in danger on one, and thus you are more aware, and you experience more of your envionment. Not to mention that (on a sportsbike anyway) to ride it, you are pretty much physically hugging it with your whole body
