I decided not to DIY my off road bike starting issue / carb tuning. I'll keep the peace because if I fire up the bike to tune it I'm sure my popularity with the Mt Roskills will take a direct hit.

I've emailed the Red Baron again to the sales dept this time to see if I get a response. Who else should I try? I dont really want to go the the guy in Kumeu for a sparkplug change and a 5 min carb tune. The guys in Barry point is an option but I hear they charge for every nut and bolt.

Should I try my local lawn mower shop? I trust those guys, I mean the ttr250 is about the size of a lawnmower engine right? What can I expect to pay to get my carb tuned on a TTR 250. What do the guys charge on average?

Waiting for reply....

I reward a good supplier by coming back. My car mechanic charges $20 more than other for a standard WOF, I support him because he is reliable and provides good service. He is NOT penny wise and pound foolish....

Not getting many replies? It's either my posts, me or a typical NZ bloke who just dont give a damn.
I may have to put some fuel on the fire to get some response.

There are heaps of websites with carb tuning info. Do some reading & research. Was this conversion on some TTR website? A magazine may have done it but it isn't set up for local conditions, or they didn't change the jets.

There are several jets that may need to be changed, rarely a twiddle of a air mixture screw will be enough or affect the area you have an issue with. Further you may need to see that accel pumper is operational if fitted.

You need to find not just a mechanic who repairs stuff by replacing stuff, but a tuner who has experience in carb swaps etc. I don't know who you'd try in Auckers. The dyno experienced might be a good start, but ask if they do this stuff often, or if the experienced chap just left & someone is juping in thier shoes.

Research so you know what questions to ask.
