View Full Version : Buckets at Hampton Downs?

Hi guys and guyesses. Tim Fraser here. Recently seen picking his bike up several times in the Mt Wellington area. I have a question for all you bucketeers ...

The first AMCC club round of the 2010-2011 season is on October 17 at Hampton Downs. Currently there's a 250Light/150Streetstock class on the bill. If there's enough interest from the bucket fraternity, we might be able to get buckets out there too. I for one would be keen to see if I can keep my battered old FXR pinned going thru turn 1. The good news is that HD is a fabulous track that's right on our doorstep. The bad news is that it ain't cheap. It may be too much of a hit on the wallet, especially for those who've just shelled out for the TRRS, but I have to ask and see who's interested in the concept.

For those who are already planning to compete in the club series in a different class, I believe that an extra bike can be raced for a nominal fee ($30 springs to mind). For the rest of us, it's a bit steeper. The word is $150 for AMCC club members ($175 for non-AMCC members) plus transponder hire if you don't have one ($30 plus GST I think). As I said ... it's not cheap, but then it's a lot cheaper to get to than Taupo and accommodation isn't really an issue.

Any feedback welcome. Good, bad or indifferent. Reply to this post or PM me or email me at tdfraser@xtra.co.nz. Happy racing.

Ah yes, Melbourne. Nice track. Apparently the city's alright too. But I've been there twice and I never got off the motorway between the airport and Phillip island. Have a great time. Tim

By the way. I have your Terra Circa DVD - stole it from Rick. Awesome! Hugely inspirational. Definitely makes you understand that anyone can do it if they really want to. Might have to add that to my ... ahem ... bucket list. :-)

If you would like the DVD returned before the next bucket meeting, let me know and I'll get it back to you poste haste.

Oh ... and my apologies to the non-Aucklanders and non-Hamiltonians out there. When I said that Hampton Downs was "right on our doorstep", I was of course only speaking for the Jafas and Jafhs amongst us. I hope i haven't offended too many people already. It's late. I'd better hit the sack before I say something monumentally stupid/insulting.

Would be great to have buckets at Hampton Downs.

I have not decided yet about going over to Philip Island for the MotoGP, and my knee is still not right (though I expect it will be OK for riding by then), so put me down as a tentative at this stage for October and a definite intention for opportunities after that.

I would be keen to give the bucket a go round hampton downs at least once and realise how slow my bike really is carrying round a lump like me on its back.

However not on that weekend. Will be covering 1000 miles in 24 hours for fun

It's ok, those of us who live south of the Bombays are getting used to you Auckland folk :Pokey:
Anyway..... that would be wicked!!
However, like others have said, it sounds fantastic, but alas the date is not so flash for us. It would make for an expensive spin on admittedly a wicked track, so we'd probably only do it if there was something else we were coming up that way for also. In otherwords, awesome idea, keep us posted on any other dates we may be able to get buckets out there. :D

We have taken a vote here at work. Count us in, Team ESE would love to take three riders/bikes, to the Downs. $150's + transponder is not cheep but it's sortof, the price that big bike riders pay at regular meetings, dumb barsteds, they could have been Bucketeers, twice the fun, quarter the price, and lots more rides.

would make it 4 bikes and riders but the doctor had something to say about that :)
instead I have plenty of time now on my hands and a shed with a bucket needing to be put back together

if people start going to this sort of thing then buckets might finaly start to be called F4 race bikes and be invited along more often

Hey Tim,
Sounds like a great idea. Will have to talk to the boss though as money will be the deciding issue here. TRRS and the 2 hr in Nov will cost us a fair bit of cash.

Yes I am deeply offended by your reference to HD being a close track. However, I will get over it.
Ellen. LOL.
Catch you later. :bye:

Hi again all. Thanks for that feedback. And well done to those in a position to give it a whirl! So, counting me that's probably 6 keen (Scott ... ah ... Ned, I presume you're one of the ESE trio?) and a couple of undecideds. I'll give it a week or to see how things are panning out and then I'll go back to the road race committee and see if/how they can accommodate us. Unfortunately I can't check the feedback when I'm at work because our fancy internet software disapproves of all that nasty profanity! :gob:

By the way, the next club round at Hampton Downs (and the last one this season) is on December 5. That might be a bit close to the TRRS, but Anybody who's keen for that date could let me know too.

Is it $150 per round?

$180 including transponder hire. Still cheaper than a weekend racing down the line somewhere.

fixer
30th August 2010, 21:00
Phew ... been a long weekend of eating and drinking. I'm afraid to step on the scales again - my poor old FXR has a hard enough time punting me round the track as it is! But I got a bit older over the weekend, so I suppose that's a fair excuse.

There's an AMCC meeting next monday at which I can raise the subject of inserting some buckety goodness into the race program. The more riders that are keen to race at HD on October 17, the more likely it is to happen.

So the more the merrier. Don't be shy.

Happy b'day, hope you had a good one (sounds like you did).
If you're close to having enough interest, or looking like it might be a goer, pay to ask at the next bucket meet, as not everyone is on here (hard to believe sometimes).
But it does clash with the Rossi/Moto2 show.

Hi Pumba. It's looking good so far. I just got an email from the Road Race Committee today saying that the programme is about to be updated. Where did you see the classes listed? Are they on the AMCC website somewhere? I had a quick look but couldn't find them.

So far we have 12 riders keen to make up an F4 class at Hampton Downs. We will almost certainly be run with the Streetstock150s and 250Lights. I'm hoping for final confirmation in the next 24 hours and also any requirement on minimum numbers to be able to run the class.

Roll on October 17!

Anyway ... my understanding, based on an email I received today, is that the F4 class is "all go" for Hampton Downs on Oct 17. I believe Leanne's entry form should be updated before too long. I'll make some phone calls if it's not updated by Monday. I want to be able to tick the box myself!

I'm signing up asap. It should be a brilliant track. The big question is can I make up enough time in the corners to avoid getting my arse kicked by the ESE guys heading up the hill! We shall see.

And it should be great fun mixing it with the Streetstock150s and 250Lights!

I've only been to puke once on a 500cc Norton Dominator. I have to say going up that hill with the gas pinned is probably my favorite corner out of any track I've been to so far.. Especially exciting if someone is on your line and you need to go outside them to pass..

Hi guys. Any chance of a show of hands as to who has signed up for Hampton Downs so far? I'm a bit concerned that some of the entries may have gone AWOL. The club treasurer is under the impression that only one F4 entry for Hampton Downs has been received. But I'm personally aware of at least 3 entries that were sent in over a week ago. If I can get some idea of who has signed up, then I can follow it up.

And for those of you who are going, but haven't sent in your form yet ... do it now!

I've sent in my entry (via email of scanned docs) for Hampton Downs and paid online. The young bro' says he has too.

I love racing the full sized tracks. Would be great to have heaps of buckets. How can we dominate racing in NZ if we don't show up? Buckets should be invited to all NZ races on full-sized tracks IMHO - that won't happen if we don't show up when given the chance.

Hi Fixer

Any idea of numbers for F4 and the other classes?

fixer
13th October 2010, 20:40
As of 9am this morning, there were 72 entries over all and enough F4s to make a class (must be at least 6 I think). I'm expecting at least 7 F4s with another 2 or 3 that I know of who might make a last-minute appearance. Entries on the day are accepted, so if the weather's good the numbers could be inflated quite a bit at the last minute. Not sure about Streetstock150s and 250Lights. Hopefully there will be as many of them as there are of us and we get a field of at least 15 in our races. I'm really looking forward to seeing how we qualify against the other guys. If I find out anything more concrete, which i might since I'm restocking the bar at the club tomorrow night. I'll let you know.
