If you don't believe scooters can be good fun, see if you can get a run on one of these things - or similar.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/kiwirider/4926242010/" title="Vespa GTS 300 Super 01 by KIWIRIDER, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/4926242010_4f92c0aaec.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="Vespa GTS 300 Super 01" /></a>

Vespa GTS 300 Super with a Gianelli pipe (for a claimed midrange boost) and I rate it as sick fun for urban transit.

It's good for the fast lane on the freeway - easily.

You have to ride around obstacles with the small wheels, but the way it handles doing it is part of the attraction.

I'm waiting on the fittings for the Red nose and long shoes to complete my look on it.

At $10.5k it isn't student friendly, but as an enjoyable metro vehicle for someone kicking a few goals - I kid you not. Turbo skateboard.

Some students are quite well off these days... Great scooter, I was taken with these when I first read about them!

Might as well just buy a CBR1000RR for that price.

10.5k Pwhaa ha ha!....Yr better off riding a small willie compensating device like the man said, a CBR1000, at least you can do long trips, high speed wheelies and trackdays

The sort of person who buys these is either a dedicated scooter enthusiast - or can afford more than one vehicle. Or has a business where less than 2 hundy a month on the lease is neither here nor there.

For riding around Auckland- I think it's more fun than the Honda.

There is no point in spending that much on a scooter, with their dangerous and often unpredictable handling. I've had a scooter before and I know that they are very unstable in comparison to a proper bike with bike wheels.

$10k scooters dont tend to have dangerous or unpredictable handling.
Apples with apples.

There wouldn't be - no.

It has limitations - but that isn't the case with this vehicle. It tracks pretty nice.

You can't say those small wheels provide the same level of stability and comfort as 17 or 18" rims would.

Yeah you tell the man. Pfft, what does BD know, not like he writes motorcycle reviews for a magazine or anything...

They aren't the typical "small wheel" scooter rim...and it disturbed me to find out just how well they do handle.
Obviously they aren't a Gixxer/ZX/CBR but then again they aren't trying to be.

Would I buy one for $10.5k?? Nope...but I'm not in the market for one

I wonder if he rode it in full leathers and a full face or did the scooter thing LOL!!! Fess up buddy! LOL! :scooter:

No - they don't - but what do you do if you want to quicken up steering - make the wheel smaller. That's where the fun is.

In the hands of an experience rider the thing is sick - not motard sick - but I look for re-entry ops. It's plenty stable for the less experienced too.

If it was half the price it would worth considering, but not for that sum of cash!

Have you got a photo of it before you sat on the seat? It looks a little distorted there, it's squashed forward. Why don't you pick on a bike your own size?

Heard of man who's local and had got a little bit too fragile to be riding his big bike so had purchased one of these big scooters and he's loving it. He can still indulge in his pasion of riding. Another scooter type thing I've seen just recently is one of these....

The Spyder is a much different animal though. It's a violent (very violent) ride compared to the Scooter. 120 horsepower Rotax engine. I took one over Woodcocks hill immediately after the last weather bombs and on the wet, debris strewn roads it was quicker than a motorcycle.
