Riding along the NW motorway last night I spot a cop car up ahead so double check the speedo to make sure I'm all good and continue on past.

Minute or so later red and blues behind me so I pull over, turn the bike off and take off the helmet, cop walks up friendly as and asks for my license. I hand it over he has a quick look at says "this bike isn't registered to you is it?" I say probably not as I only picked in up from Holeshot a couple days ago so the paperwork probably hasn't gone through.

He says no worries, I noticed you looking behind you a bit (which I had been cos I wasn't entirely certain that I'd been under the speed limit as I'd approached him and was being mildly paranoid (new bike is fast yo)) and as the bike is registered to a dealership just checkin.

Cop then says it's all good you can go, sorry for any inconvenience and wanders back to his car.

I didn't feel even slightly harrassed or put out, he just seemed to be on the look out for nicked bikes, which I think is a good thing. Good to see the cops being pro-active about crime in a really professional manner.

Lotsa cop bashing on this site, so thought I'd post a good experiance.

I was in full gear, but I'm pretty sure I was watching to see if the cop pulled out behind me as I went past.

I'm not very dodgy looking, ask anybody, I'm respectable as..:innocent:

Yeah with all the stolen bike threads it's good to know they're keeping a look out.

The only time i've been pulled over on the bike was because I "looked dodgy". Hah. Same situation, licence check and on my way.

people seem to be pretty anti cop by and large here. or at least the anti ones are vocal about it.

personally i've never been ticketed for something i didnt do, so cant complain on that score. been let off plenty of stuff i've done too. met a few grumpy pricks, but hey thats life. i expect thats a hazard in their job what with the abuse they must take from time to time. by and large, i reckon our policemen are pretty decent

the people deciding where their time is best spent might need some talking to, but i wouldnt know enough about that to really comment :)

I would have to agree. Got a ticket going to Taupo in the cage two weeks ago, but fair cop. I was pinged at 117 in a passing lane (after lifting my foot):innocent: and didn't argue. My last ticket was in 2004 in ScorpyGirls car coming up the Bombay Hills. Prior to that the previous one was back in the days of the MOT black & whites!!!!!!:gob:

When I considered all the imperial 3 figure+ velocities (161kph+ for you young folks) I had achieved over the years, I figured that the odds said I had to get caught.

Like st00ji I have been let off quite a few times over the years, so just treated it as a fair roll of the dice.

I know a number of Police Officers, both on and off KB, and would have to say that the vast majority are very dedicated people.

WTF are you serious??? the whole act of person being pulled over for no offence in a first place is a HARASSMENT (only because you "looked dodgey" ...very subjective thing and nothing to do with law)

...regadless of how many clowns will say that: its just their job to "check things", "what if you were a rapists" and other such bullshit!

Also why would he suspect bike is stolen when he didnt even know your name yet and obviously has checked that the bike isnt reported as stolen before pulling you over...

My husband was pulled over the other night - the cops wanted to know why he was riding my bike (registered to a woman, when so obviously ridden by a man):laugh: and they also asked what kind of Harley it was ........
it is a Fury  they said he was lucky his wife lets him ride her bike!

I now understand why we have so many ticket whine threads. You're failing the attitude test before you even open your mouth. This particular cop seemed perfectly reasonable with his initial suspicions being unfounded.

Yeah man it has to be a conspiracy, he obviously pulled him over to write out every ticket he possibly could! Oh no, that's right, he didn't receive a single ticket...

I still fail to see how it was an interesting experience
Has happen plenty many time to me and quite a few I know.

Don't get me wrong, a bloody good result but I think it may happen far more than what you may realise. Unfortunately we hear about/remember the interaction from the arsehole traffic pricks and not the 'real traffic cops'.

I have once, but didn't let it eat me alive and looked at the overall picture. One unfair infringement notice vs let off plenty of fair cops. One included speeding, restricted licence, 750cc, pillion, 1-1.30am etc:innocent: Even offered some great free advice.........."Go home":D

If someone was unfairly pulled over for no reason at all (i.e. looking dodgy/out of place) and they turned out to be riding around on your stolen bike would you still think it such a horrendous abuse of power?

Seems pretty likely the answer would be yes.

Look up harassment, ya tosser.... it is a criminal act. What did he do that was criminal? Try reading, instead of getting the foggy glaze over the remaining anti cop one eye of yours.

Yeah... they get reported the very instant they get nicked... for example.... :niceone::msn-wink::crazy::weird::tugger:

I remember being outside Holeshot about 7pm one night before I had my first bike and was just looking through the window at bikes with my mate who took me there on the back of his Bandit. A cop car pulls up and 2 cops get out, they ask us "hey are you guys thinking about stealing some bikes" and I said "sure" as I figured they were being sarcastic, "do you mind grabbing a couple for us too?" they said jokingly.

Turns out they were both bikers themselves and seeing as we both had riding gear on they figured they'd just stop for a friendly chat. They were awesome dudes, I didn't have my L's at that point so they gave me advice on what sort of bike would be a good learners bike for me etc. They also talked about how they have to watch their speeds etc themselves and how they cop it (pun intended) far worse than we do if they are caught speeding, which was interesting to hear. They then said cheerio and they were on their way.

It was nice to get to see a different side of the police, after all they are only human beings just the same as us.

Oh thats right, turning around and looking back from a bike means that its a stolen bike....seriously is it what you meant?

Also its the sheepish attitude like yours ...cops being allowed to do what ever they want as long as they say they were "catching criminals" that got us where we are now...
e.g. police becoming this unhelpful arrogant nuisance instead of something you could trust and rely on...

I've never had a ticket since gettng back into bikes five years ago..
Might have something to do with the fact that I'm always riding within the law or that when they turn around they just go past me cos they think that old clown on the 1400 wasn't the bike heading towards them a few minutes earlier. :) :scooter:

I am taking up a collection to pay a dodgy person who will feel harassed if stopped to steal MK's bike.

Hopefully they will not get stopped just because they look dodgy.

A bike registered to a dealership riding at night with a guy looking a bit shifty and the cop decides "well we are supposed to do random licence checks" and does one.

No harm, no foul.

It would be harassment if the officer had been excessively rude or tried really hard to find something to charge or ticket me for or something else that the tinfoil hat types seem to think the powers that be are up to. But he didn't, the guy was completely up front and courteous with me and didn't hold me up for a second longer than he absolutely had to.

I wonder whether the reason some people think the cops are unreasonable dicks is because they (the complainers, not the cops) have such massive chips on their shoulders that they're rude arrogant fuckwits to the cops whenever they have dealings with them. You know what? If you're so unsure of your manliness that you're rude and argumentative to a cop I don't have much sympathy if said cop decides that you know what? Fuck it he will ticket you for 4km over.

I have to agree i don't mind losing ten minutes or so now and then, to know that our police are doing their job. we don't pay our taxes just for the fun of it do we?

I've been stopped for a breath test 3 or 4 times in the last couple months. it doesn't bother me at all, and i don't call it harassment either.

actually who cares, lets call it harassment, i would rather the police "harass" people than sit in their smoko room while people are out getting drunk and causing accidents, stealing bikes, etc
