seen some funny shit on scooters, more and more lately.
the other day i saw a 50cc special smoking its little ring out at about 40k, the rider was wearing an old pushbike helmet, and his pillion nothing! both had big grins on though. push bike helmet is lols.
but seriously, does anyone else think scooter riders really seem to push the envelope when it comes to filtering / splitting? its almost like they've seen a bike doing it on the motorway or something, and thought 'thats a piece of me!' and now they refuse to stop for any reason short of a traffic light. have seen all sorts of hairy stuff, full speed up the inside of a single lane road between moving traffic and parked cars, getting stuck trying to filter round cars in narrow road work sections, bus lane, parking, median, you name it if the bike will fit (and sometimes not) they are trying it.
are there any kind of numbers from ACC on scooters getting it wrong in barefeet and bike helmets? or am i just getting old to think this is irresponsible riding?

If you ride a piece of shit that you don't maintain, then it's fair to say you think yourself a piece of shit not worth preserving. Or you so don't give a rats about anyone that it includes yourself.
I actually saw a woman on a scooter the other day with a Rev'it jacket, decent helmet and gloves :gob:
I think they split because they are the most agile and smallest of motorised cycles. It is annoying if you are filtering and you see one pull out and block you at the lights.
The extra push off they give with their feet at launch always makes me chuckle.

Have you ever been to Holland? Seeing t he kids doing 60+kph down the footpath with their feet up on the handlebars...
Actually Friday nights in Jerez (Spain) is full on scooter action. Some good skills too

some scooter riders may shock the boofheads that only ride "real bikes" with thier skills, some scooters nowadays have great power and agility and would knock the socks off "real bikes" in dense traffic

Some do, the rest are still the thousand dollar 50cc dealies with a centrifugal clutch that you see daily, as opposed to occasional sightings of the others.

the average scooter rider scares the crap out of me - too many people in shorts and t-shirts.
A friend of mine used to ride a scooter and she wore the proper gear but she was definitely in the minority

It's nothing to do with that. They're all so ignorant the possibility of crashing doesn't even come into their minds. Half of them don't even know what brand of scooter they''re riding. I should know, I used to work at a scooter shop.

scooters are like farts. some are bad, some are worse, but you can't help but laugh every time..
ive seen plenty of stupid stuff on scooters here in palmy, people ripping up lawns, burnouts, carrying passengers without helmets etc. burnouts were always funny as hell, especially if someone else is doing one and you put some extra weight on the rear of the bike so it takes off.. not that ive ever done that lol..

I got my old scooter on diesel once. It did a mean burnout!
I used to do burnouts at every set of traffic lights on my scooter, it was awesome!

One local city councillor - who will remain nameless (butitainthardtofindoutwhoheis) - rides a 650 Bergman - "because he doesn't have to wear any gear to ride it". sic.

this guy I know had a scooter (we called it tainty cos we were near certain it was stolen at some point), we made a sled out of a skip bin-lid and an old couch, got some good speed up on it too (in controlled circumstances of course :innocent: )
seriously though, when you see silly shit done on scoots, just be thankfull they aren't on faster bikes where the damage can be a lot greater.

pfffffffft, everything you mention I've seen done by riders on "real bikes", not to mention burnouts, wheelies, dragging off at the lights and speeding down suburban streets. How's the view from way up there on your sanctimonious high horse?

Saw an asian guy in shorts with a bike helmet on riding one of those electric scooters filtering in the CBD and he was smoking a ciggy. I was jealous much.

...sad to think that the inevitable will happen to a percentage of them, low impact, 30-40 k dismount...lots'a blood and stitches in legs, knees, arms ,arse...and it seems to be not a problem to the enforcement brigade, from what I see....lots of cool scooter riders about too, geared up...playin the game...its not just young people who are ignorant to their fate either...check out the old dears out there, with their off to town/church gear on, scootin up beside the doors of parked cars, oblivious, it seems...

a lot of it is ignorance imo, some education of what can happen would go a long way, even just wearing jeans, hoody, and light gloves will save a lot of skin if they come off. Inform any scooterist you know what is likely to happen in an off, chances are they will wear a bit more I reckon.

That, my friend, is comedy gold. If I didn't have sigs turned off, I would be sorely tempted to make that a line in my sig.(and then turn sigs on of course) Well done.

seems too familiar, a friend of mine got a scooter a year or two ago, the people at the bike shop gave her an open faced helmet and said something along the lines of "this is all you'll need on a scooter". on the other hand, as soon as i decided to get a MC all my friends (and bike shop staff etc) were telling me to get good protective gear.
i guess they forgot you can still lose half your face at 50km. not to mention skin off your hands/elbows/whatever. ah well
