I am willing to bet that this woman will never be a productive member of society..... are we (the people) able to have her sent back to Somalia?

Define ''productive member of society''.

I don't think it is an ambigius statement Hans.
How about someone who contributes to the common good of the nation they call home.....be that their place of birth or otherwise.
I don't see that allowing Faeces throwing, aircraft highjacking, life threatening Muslims into a country contributes to the common good.
Maybe it does....... It makes natural Kiwi's look totally cultured, educated and civilised.
But I also feel that woman is showing signs of mental illness...... perhaps we should be burdend with her for th erest of her life.....

I think that most Kiwi's have absolutely no idea the level of stress and suffering or the horrors that refugees were subjected to in their homelands. Militia that run around systematically destroying villages, raping women, killing all the men, stealing children and/or mutilating them. Is it any wonder that some of the refugees that come into NZ are suffering from mental illness and post traumatic stress.

I see.
I think you would have a different opinion if the experience this women put all those people through somehow effected you.
Like, for example, if you where a paasenger (or service crew) on this flight.
That is what I call a terrifying experience.
Post traumatic stress syndrome?
For HER victims, maybe.
I really have no problem with immigration (I live in Austria, and experienced immigration sress first hand), but, erm, I can tell you that in Austria, if an immigrant (be they an assylim seaker or otherwise) has a mental illness, there is no way in hell they would get in.
Same same if they committed ANY crime in teh first few years of residency.
NZ has enough trouble looking after it's own, why burden the tax payer with shit throwing high jackers.
Such events should cause her status to be revoked.
High jacked a plane for goodness sake!
Clockwork

As I understand it, if she was an immigrant then there is every chance she would be deported (you read about this sort of thing quite often). I believe she's a refugee and I don't think refugees can be deported.

And I agree that the passengers and crew on the plane were no doubt terrified by their ordeal. My point was that no doubt she is suffering a mental illness given what she was witnessed in her homeland. To screen every refugee that comes into the country for mental illness is impossible. How trauma affects people is different. some will no doubt be suffering a mental illness, others no.There are peolple walking around everyday whom one would never know suffered a mental illness of some sort. Unless they are blatantly walking paranoidly around with weapons or hiding for days on end in there homes, one does not know. I remember an extract from JK's memoirs where he stated that he "came to" running down length of Eden Park with a ball under his arm and no bloody clue as to how he got there. Did anyone in the stands realise this? No! Mental illness of any sort is often hard to pick by people unless you are a trained professional. Or close to that person and realise that the behaviour they are exhibiting is out of character.

Yes, I agree, and you make good points.
As far as I am aware, mental health (in the developed world), remains one of the most under funded of them all.
Not so much as in amount of money put in (mental health professionals cost a bomb, and, as such the limited funds get eaten up by a smaller amount of doctors
that other services.
With this in mind, how fair is it to burden the Kiwi system with this type of person, when it is clear the system already cannot cope with it's current populations demands.
Oh, I agree she is mentally ill (or she would have taken the plane down.... by the sound of it, she had opportunity to do so), and possibly not of sufficient mind to carry it out, rather than a terrorist acting on some extreme Koran interpretation, but, the reality is, A Muslim tried to bring down a plane, and now all of NZ will be looking after her for the rest of her life.
Great.

NZ has a quota each year for how many refugees we take in. Sometimes the UN ask NZ to take a few extra ones. The Govt does not take them in out of the kindness of it's heart. They are paid a substantial amount per head by the UN to take them. The housing, health, education etc initially forked out by the Govt to settle them here is a pittance compared to what they were paid. There are many refugees who will no doubt ultimately cost the tax payer money, but there is also a large number of them who will become integrated members of NZ society and pay their taxes like everyone else.

immigration laws need to be tightened up hardout.
I had to do so much to qualify getting in here, how can some useless fuck from somalia just walk in?
and i think the islanders quota should be scrapped too.
everyone should have to qualify through the same process - most of whom wont even be able to read the application form, so they will fail, and thats how it should be.

Hate much on immigrants, immigrant? I'm just glad you've found a good place in Austria. If someone from the local village reads your posts on KB, you might even get your citizenship early. In the words of a Czech actor who immigrated to Austria for political reasons: When asked in an interview, what his first act as a new Austrian citizen would be... ''I will go buy some whitewash and write Auslaender raus on every wall!''
Jonno.

certainly not.
I have no problem with immigration, and trust me, I have felt the sting of their racism on more than one occasion. From all sectors.
I would see this woman in the same light if she was a natural kiwi or otherwise.
This is a serious subject ( and ties in with the Islamisation of Europe thread)
You all think that NZ is so safe from all this Islamisation the rest of the world is seeing, now it is finally turning up on your doorstep.
How would you feel if she had succeeded in her plan to bring down the plane?????

Fair enough. I just think you may not be looking at this from the right angle. Yep, ultimately she is a worthless bag of shit.
But: After being here since 1994 she is unfortunately our bag of shit, rather than anyone else's. She is clearly fucked up beyond all repair. Hell, the sort of life she's likely had before even coming here will do that to you. Let alone coming here with no decent support structures in place. I think the fact that she is a Muslim is not relevant in this story. (And believe me, I dislike the fuckers more than most people would).
Trust me I'm not some whining lefty liberal type, but I think a little mercy is in order here. I am all for fighting Islam in the harshest way possible AND not letting any more of the filthy Mohammedan (Musulman to you, LOL) shits in here. But she is already here and the capacity for compassion and rational thought is after all one of the things that distinguishes us from our Muslim "brothers". Is it not?
P.S. Excuse the horrible ranting style of writing I'm exhibiting this morning. I have just woken up and may still be a tiny bit pissed.

Actually, I think you bring up a valid point.... She has been here since 1994, and, as such is really "our bag of shit", There is one thing that really troubles me (other than the fact that the original link was removed), and that is there seems grounds for an "insanity" plea..... As far as I am aware, such a plea must be put forward by the defense, not the prosecution..... So she, in most likelihood did not apply for that, as it would have resulted in an "open ended sentence"' whereas, now, she has to do 6 years (time off too I am sure), so let's say 4 years..... Then she has done her time, and back into society.
Yea ha!:crazy::scratch::scratch:

Sad part of mental health care in NZ is that the sufferer either commits a crime to be noticed or self harms to be noticed. A sentence of any length is a good thing for her. Perhaps now she can get the psychiatric help she obviously needs.

Thats why we have JK etc, so we can start to recognise the signs before the person starts to be a threat to themselves or others.
This Muslim woman was probarbly willing to do anything to get out of Blenheim.

It's hardly proof and IMO multiculturalism works pretty well in most places. 2nd/3rd generation assimilation to be native Kiwis.
I know Kiwis of Indian decent and also Malaysian decent who have both married Kiwis and see NZ as their permanent home. They are also well educated and contribute significantly to the NZ economy and society.
One nutter doesn’t allow you to tar all others with the same racist brush.
However as for letting African nurses into NZ with the HIV virus.................................
