View Full Version : How motorcycles helped my brother

Motleycbt125, Blake passed away at North Shore Hospital hdu on the 24th August aged 22 from a 5 day fight with Pneumonia.
At Blake's funeral we had a few smiles pondering back to when he first started riding and his journey with motorcycles. He started on a little slow 125 bucket bike, if you'd seen him riding on the coast you'd know what im talking about. He was a big boy, and when one did see Blake from behind you just knew that there was a huge smile on the other side.
At the traffic lights he would red line the rev counter whilst doing a 'cool running's to take off on a green light, what I mean is he would do a 10 meter flintstone sprint until he would go fast enough for him to put his feet up. Sometimes he would spontaneously pass me then take his feet off the stand and pretend he's running. I remember when he would flap his arms out like a bird on the open road, it was his way of expressing himself and he loved it. Although he barely puttered along he was content and happy.
In Hospital when Blake was highly sedated the Nurses told us, 'who is to say he cant hear us. So we talked to him about everything under the sun. We needed his stats to come up so I talked to him about giving my bike as a present and we could go for a trip of New Zealand and route 66 in America, his oxygen levels and blood pressure went up at a rate we couldn't believe. I know that somewhere in their he knew.
The biker community had been so helpful to Blake, this my family are grateful. Keep on riding, keep on doing what your doing, motorcycles can create strong bonds that last till the end.

Sympathies. I know his Mum and step family but I think I only met Blake once. We haven't had a lot to do with the family, but knew them as a loving and close one. One of my biking mates was involved with Blake and had been doing up a bike with him. He was very upset as Blake was responding so well and was far happier than he'd seen him in a while.
I didn't know he was a member here.

My sympathies....wow...you bought tears to my eyes....I like your attitude and Blake was fortunate to have had a wonderful person such as yourself in his life.

Yup. Vaughan and his wife have been friends for a long time. We went on tour with them one Summer and had a great time. He was very upset about Blake.
Maybe we can catch up with you all again soon. Give your Mum and Allan our love.

Thanks mate! Unfortunately I'm in hospital at the mo as my back hasn't been doing too well, Vaughan knows the story, (see "Edbear in hospital" thread), so not sure when they'll let me out. Won't be riding for a while though... :bye:
