So hey a lot of people in Southland may look down their noses at my scooter, because I'm a modern day "Mod" living in a town full of "Rockers",with a Vespa GTS 250ie 2007,but I'm really one up on most of them and at least I can say, that I have the only ONE.I would also add that as Vespa was the world's first successful motorbike with over 15 million of them sold worldwide that everything else is just a copy of them anyway.
Just for the uneducated, the model I ride is the one that all the cops in England ride with a #3 emissions rating,a 4 stroke water-cooled machine with European good looks, that has a top speed of 137 km and does 0-100 in 6 seconds. When she's fully loaded, she will carry saddlebags, rider and passenger, with both front and rear carriers loaded and still cruise comfortably at the speed limit.
I'm not sure about economy wise, but last year it cost me about $13 from Invercargill-Dunedin return.
She has 13 inch wheels with disc brakes and a halogen headlght which is a definite improvement in design all built on a pressed steel chassis.
New,she sells at $9,700 or about $10,700 with a full chrome kit and the extra carriers.
At 3 years old and 14,470 kms mine is worth between $6,900-7,500,which is about the cheapest you'll see them for on Trademe.
This is my 2nd GTS.I wrote the first one off under my insurance, which was one of the first ever sold in NZ,that I bought for just $7,900 from Motorrad in Wellingtown, which although it being their demonstration model, had only done 200 kms.

Lol, Triumph is the longest running motorcycle manufacturer in the world. There first bike was built in 1884, there first production public bike was apparently in late 1800's and into early 1900's pre war.
They were a huge success and have survived economy ups and downs, the depression and even fires of entire factories. The company has been thrust forward with many hoops and hurdles and still goes strong today.
Great to see the old school bikes still making an impact. Style and classic form lives forever.
Go hard. Vespa riders are bikers too.

Triumph went broke though, and production stopped until the brand was reborn with new owners, new designs and a new factory. IMHO they still count as the longest manufacturer, Peugeot come a close second.
Peugeot built their first bike in 1898, and still build them.
I have ridden the Jet-force 125 scooter, designed to meet Euro capacity rules for low rego cost scooters, hence the 125 cc engine, but supercharged to make a joke of the rules.
Never underestimate a scooter ;-)

Well done Martin Smith on owning the one and only "real bike" in the country. Give yourself a pat on the back and ride proudly. Perhaps one day all of us Harley / Triumph / Jappa riders will join the following you are creating and wake up to the fact that we were ALL wrong in our personal choices... Vespa dealers wont know what hit them as we all march in the doors to trade our pretend bikes in on a "real bike" just like yours.

Now why would I include Ducatis in my reply... seeing as how they have their roots firmly planted in the same country that makes the Vespa... it would make sense that a Ducati is basically just a bigger Vespa.
Italians do great food, ok cars, and have cool accents. As for their bikes... well, we all know that the Vespa is a real bike now so I guess the Ducatis must be up there somewhere. All us "others" will come to realise we were wrong - one day
