ok.. to start with the guys a muppet. get that out of the way to start with...

but the cop certainly didnt do anything for police relations. Claims to have caught the guy doing 112 in a 60 and then when asked to prove it hes like.. nah.. dont have to.. if you want to contest it take it to court and we will see who the judge believes. How fucking arrogant is that?

Insult to injuryt he guy gets charged with excessive acceleration not speeding which makes me think the cop was making up shit to see if he could make it stick.

I wonder how many have been 'upgraded' to the next ticket bracket cause the cop doesnt like you, or worse.. the look of you? Surely, if they are going to be professionals in their work they should go by fact!

I just watched the guy being pulled over in slow motion and the radar is flicking high 50s low 60s... certainly no lock on.

yet another crock of shit media beat up spindoctoring that makes me think less and less of the police

We all have bad days at work and sometimes take it out on others... No doubt the job of the Police is pretty stressful, having to fill quotas to prove how much of a super cop you are... but you're right. It doesn't justify fucking people over just because you can...

there are some professions where not doing your job properly because your having a bad day doesnt matter. There are some professions where your repuation for doing your job is just as important as you doing the job.
If the guys not suited to beign a cop, then mcdonalds is hiring.

Oh I agree, don't get me wrong, I do love defending the cops when they deserve it (they are generally alright ), but like you say, if they aren't cut out for such a high profile job, they really should be sitting at a desk or working somewhere else that could make use of his verbal dexterity and irreverance for the law... politics perhaps :shifty:... such interpersonal skills would be wasted at macas :)

I've always had a problem with how cops can simply say you were doing something, and his word is taken as fact and you are treated like a criminial right off the bat.

Oh well, just lie low and don't stick out I guess.

Yeah if I break the law and am caught I pay the fine or what every. No problem with that.

But I wouldn't stomach some come cops opinion about how fast he though I was going, specially on a bike like mine which revs lots and might sound like its going faster than it is.

yes he was! a complete knob. no argument there... but fortunately thats not illegal!

And we need police who can act professionally.. or at least not screen what fucking wankers they really are on primetime tv.

And yes.. there are exceptions to the rule.. but overall.. they are egotiscail pieces of shit.

And for what its worth the cops do NOT have to show or prove any speed recordings, his attude is understanable when dealing with these kids every 5 minutes and dealing with the same shit.

And perhaps he isn't suited to it at all...afterall if he can't behave in a professional manner when the camera is rolling what kind of shit does he get up to when he is on his own?

I also agree that cops have a hard and shit job and they have to deal with lots of loathesome critters HOWEVER if they want support from those us that are less loathesome they need to work on their PR...why the hell that was edited in if it was that bad you can only guess.

i think thats one of the reasons police bosses allow these sort of shows.
gives them a bit of a look on how their officers are in the job.

Debating the virtue of policemen in the TV shows is like debating morality and ethics based on a few episodes of Survivors.

Is there such a thing as "Excessive acceleration"? I generally enjoy getting up to the speed limit in a relatively short space of time. On the bike, you can take off at the lights and be at 50 and the car behind you is barely moving through the intersection. Or is excessive a subjective opinion of the observer? Or does it depend on what vehicle you're in?

Appears it is entirely in the opinion of the police:

excessive acceleration is when it is unlawful, usually you have to exceed the speed limit as well, as per FAQ 3.

I know a guy who got snapped for unnecessary exhibition of acceleration. The cop couldn't ping him for speeding as he wasn't exceeding the posted speed limit.

Yes its a bullshit law that is entirely open to interpretation and if you get into court your fucked becuase the judge will take the cops word over yours.

But the dumb sheeple of NZ wanted this becuase of 'all the nasty boy racers' of which there is actually bugger all, and the sheeple were too stupid to realise what an abomoniation this law is.

I find it tends to be middle aged old guys on their falcodores that race around with a superiority complex and macho attitude and its the soccer mums in 4wds that cant pick a lane.

That unnecessary exhibition of acceleration law was just invented so police could fine people who failed the attitude test, or just if the cop is a complete dickhead and the driver wasn't doing anything illegal that they could otherwise be fined for.

Doing a skid is called sustained loss of traction, and before you accuse me of having a low intellectual ability, learn to fucking spell.

Now, getting pulled over at 10pm for "excessive speed take-off" in a 1976 Vauxhall Viva Magnum, THAT is something to impress!

Yessir, 2 and a half ton (I was inside, adds some weight) of good British steel powered by a naturally aspirated 1800cc pepper grinder.

Suffice to say the female newbie who pulled me over got a few words from the Sarge in the passengers seat, and I got sent on my way with a humble apology... muhahaha

He knows how to spell - just he uses a language known as Dangerese.

And to be done for excessive acceleration (as some call it) all you have to do is accelerate hard - and commit another offence, i.e. breaking the speed limit will do.

Like accelerating hard to fit into a tight gap during rush hour traffic and having an expired vehicle licence?

I wonder how the cop would decide what would be excessive in terms of accelerating too hard. A GN125 would have to be ridden hard to fit into a tight gap in traffic whereas an R1 would just have to be cruising gently to do the same thing.

Speed differential to other traffic maybe? Dunno it sounds trickier as you question it

These reality shows such as the police one in question and MAF, border control etc, do nothing for the departments or enforcement concerned!

Almost every one of them leaves me feeling that we are being "protected" by a bunch of bloody idiots!

But then again I am inclined to be a bit black and white but crushing the bloody car means just give them time to get out of it and it's as good as done!

All these shows just illustrate how limp wristed our enforcements really are!

If the law says cars will be crushed, don't pussy foot around, "CRUSH THEIR FUCKING CARS"! :brick:

Like accelerating hard to fit into a tight gap during rush hour traffic and having an expired vehicle licence? jezz us christ... use ya swead, like a cop would, in this case the punjab was RACING another car, what the cop saw was obviously a stupid move which he decided to take action against, just maybe this cop has let the guy away in the past and considered enough is enough... ya dont know the full story just what the TV show wants you to see, they want just what they got... back chat.
