Thought some of you lot might be interested in this, nice lightweight camera to strap on to your bike if you're wanting to record anything.

That's a pretty low resolution camera, but it seems good for the price.

1-Day have a camera that might be suitable for use on a bike. Cheap. $70. Normally $200 they say.

Don't know much about this. Anybody care to venture an opinion on it?

Poos resolution. Says nothing about noise reduction properties of microphone.
Get what you pay for here I think..

I'd definitely get one if I wasn't saving up for suspension upgrades.

If you expect a $400 camera then you'll be disapointed but I don't know why you would

I got one last time they were on at that price... definitely get what you pay for but as a tool to catch some trail riding it's ok. Audio is crap. Battery on board is a good idea, plugs in to the computer ok and needs a micro sd card. Think from a 4 gb card get about an hour of filming but battery only lasts 40 mins max. But whadya expect for $70?

I and a mate have just gone through this process and brought similar cheap as helmet cams.
The quality is vaguely acceptable. I though I would buy one as they were cheap and I could use it as a second camera when I upgrade to a nice full HD one. Most of the time the camera is shaking around at high speed so I figured it would be fine to have mediocre quality.
After I bought mine, however, Peeteey (http://www.youtube.com/peeteey) mentioned he used one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Aiptek-1080P-Definition-Camcorder-Silver/dp/B0019BPTMI/ref=dp_cp_ob_p_image_1) which seams like great value for full HD. Only problem then is how you would mount it security to your moca byk?
One of these (http://www.amazon.com/Contour-1200-ContourHD-Helmet-Camera/dp/B0026P4H6K/ref=br_lf_m_1000389491_1_1_img?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=photo&pf_rd_p=481820391&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000389491&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0Z5RR9CK18TD8FE07Z2R) or the ubiquitous Go Pro (http://www.goprocamera.com/products/hd-motorsports-hero-camera.php) would be ideal.

Nother thing to remember if you go the HD route is that unless you have a beefy computer, it will be slow to edit and render. My Hampton Downs vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g54uWkxjgw) really made my computer cry.

Yep.. went looking on trademe earlier and stumbled on at least 20 of those key rings ones for under $30. Thats me sorted just waiting to pick up a $1 reserve one for hopefully a few less dollars than they want.
Chuck in my 2 or 4gb card from my cellphone and see how the videos come out.
Planning to hopefully mount mine inside the helmet somewhere to avoid wind noise. Should be do-able.

Won an auction for $18+6 shipping last night. Will keep all posted. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=313866580
In other news, here is the footage from my first run with the action cam thingy. Mount was a little high so the sky made everything else look darker...

...mounted it to the crash bars of the BMW. Good enough at slow speeds, but under hard acceleration and at 160 km/h the image was shocking. This is probably because of the vibrations and wind. If I could place it somewhere else with ease I think I would have better luck. I might go and have another look now and see what I can do short of drilling holes on things,

Probably just as well - would you really want video evidence of you speeding?

Thats bloody good quality for a dirt cheap mini cam. Thats impressive.
I just bought on for $16.01 and $4 postage. Hope to get it by saturday and take it for a test.
Have you thought about making a clip to clip it to the top of your windscreen so it hangs down just behind the top of the windscreen? And then perhaps a bit of blu-tack on the front of it to hold it steady up against the windscreen? If that makes any sense to you?
Im going to start looking for clips etc and see if i can do something like that.

I am ordering a few more cameras to mount here and their, but because they are so small light and inexpensive you can attach them with blue tac ;)

Im just a tad worried about the 100kph winds (lucky we arent allowed to do 200kph or they would fly away).
Maybe ill just use blue tac to get the right angle and then put a couple of strips of masking tape over it too just to try and elimante vibrations etc.
Farking bugger ive got an orange tint windscreen. Cant think of anywhere else good to mount these little buggers. So ill just be having orange videos until i mount it to my helmet somewhere that wont damage my helmet

For a more permanent solution I am going to ask the wife nicely to make some Velcro attachments. For the less windy spots maybe just glue a strip to the camera and something more secure onto the bike without damaging anything.
Perhaps for the more windy spots have a valcro strap to go over the top of the camera to keep it safe.
This guy also came up with a very good option which should eliminate wind noise and allow you to talk into the video and do heavy breathing...

hmmm could just slip it into the helmet between the cheek pad and the shell of the helmet. Bit of velcro to hold it there. Could be a bit fiddly though to turn it on and off.
